Chapter Index

Looking at Zhao Lianghe, who died with his eyes open.

Zhao Fei took two steps back, his body trembling, then collapsed onto the sofa, gasping for breath.

For a moment, he couldn’t describe how he felt.

After a long time, he finally calmed down, his thoughts becoming clearer.

“Dad! What’s wrong, Dad! Someone help! Call 120 quickly!”

Zhao Fei knelt beside his father’s corpse, crying hysterically, screaming in despair.

Soon, the bodyguards and maids outside heard the noise and rushed in.

    “Quick! Call 120 now!”

The maid hurriedly took out her phone to call 120.

On the way to the hospital, Zhao Fei fainted three times out of grief.

The accompanying doctor couldn’t help but admire his deep filial piety.

In the end, Zhao Lianghe couldn’t be resuscitated; he died of sudden cardiac arrest.

When Xu Shaochen and Deng Tianwen heard this news, their first thought was that Zhao Fei was too ruthless.

Damn, to even kill his own father.

If it weren’t for Zhao Fei, how could Zhao Lianghe have died so suddenly from a heart attack?

“Sigh, what a pity for Old Dog Zhao. This is what happens when you don’t raise your children properly.”

Deng Tianwen sighed with a complicated expression. After all, there was a deep grudge between him and Zhao Lianghe.

Xu Shaochen didn’t comment further, as there was no point.

    “Ding ding ding…”

    Suddenly, Deng Tianwen’s phone rang.

“Hello, what’s the matter… What? Okay, got it.”

After a brief conversation, Deng Tianwen hung up and told Xu Shaochen: “The environmental inspection. The higher-ups aren’t satisfied with our work in the Northwest and are calling for a meeting with the business owners to enforce the policies.”

“Enjoy the lecture, huh,” Xu Shaochen said, gloating slightly.

Deng Tianwen sighed: “Yeah, we business people have to follow their lead. There’s no other way.”

“After the meeting, I bet you won’t even find street vendors in the entire Northwest.”

“Alright, I should head back to Jiangzhou.”

Xu Shaochen said, seeing that with Zhao Fei no longer a concern, it was time to return home.

Deng Tianwen’s expression changed: “Why the rush? What, are you leaving just because I called you over for this? Now that it’s done, you’re eager to leave as if I’m throwing you out.”

“I’ve got something to take care of…”

Before Xu Shaochen could finish, Deng Tianwen interrupted him:

“Something urgent? Do you really need to handle it yourself? What are those people under you even for? Anyway, now that the busy stuff is over, you have to stay and enjoy a couple of days before going back.”

Xu Shaochen smiled wryly and nodded: “Alright, alright, you’re the host, I’ll follow your lead.”

“I have to go to that meeting, no time to accompany you, but don’t worry, have fun. Just keep all the receipts, and I’ll reimburse everything.”

Deng Tianwen had initially planned on spending a few more fun days with Xu Shaochen, but the phone call messed up his schedule.

“What’s the point of reimbursing? You still owe me five billion.”

Xu Shaochen gave him a disdainful look and said in annoyance.

Deng Tianwen casually brushed it off: “With all Deng Family businesses back to normal, returning your five billion is just a matter of time. It’s easy money.”

    Deng Tianwen quickly left.

Xu Shaochen called Yuxiu, asking her to accompany him the next day.

Yuxiu, feeling down, wanted to refuse, but Xu Shaochen didn’t give her the chance.

Xu Shaochen never indulged her too much.

    …………

    The next day.

Xu Shaochen didn’t drive, nor did he bring Long Yi or Long Er. Instead, he took a taxi to pick up Yuxiu.

After all, since injecting the Genetic Serum, he was no longer the person he used to be. He didn’t need bodyguards to stay close to him all the time.

Today, Yuxiu was dressed refreshingly in black skinny pants and a white coat, wearing sunglasses. She looked extremely charming.

    “That child isn’t Zhao Chen’s.”

After getting in the car, Yuxiu said coldly.

Implying that Xu Shaochen had deceived her.

Xu Shaochen smiled: “The child isn’t his, but his attitude wasn’t fake, right? Besides, now that things have come to this, is there any point in arguing about it?”

“You were the one who brought out the document, basically pushing him into the abyss yourself. Do you seriously think he’ll forgive you?”

Xu Shaochen’s words cruelly shattered the illusions in Yuxiu’s heart.

“You bastard! You even use women!”

Yuxiu ground her teeth, removed her sunglasses, revealing red, puffy eyes — clearly from crying.

“You should be glad you still have value. It’s not being used that’s pitiful but having no value to be used.”

Xu Shaochen pulled her into his arms, whispered in her ear, feeling increasingly wicked.

Yuxiu struggled for a moment, then gave up.

The taxi driver, though intrigued by the gossip, wisely refrained from asking anything.

Soon, the taxi stopped in front of a travel agency.

    “What are we doing here?”

After getting out of the car, Yuxiu asked, putting her sunglasses back on to hide her reddened eyes.

“Joining a group tour. Or do you want to be my guide?”

Xu Shaochen said as he forcibly pulled her into the travel agency and signed up for a local tour group.

    A one-day trip with same-day return.

He’d never been on a group tour before. In fact, he’d never been on any tour.

So, he thought he’d give it a try.

After paying and completing the formalities, Xu Shaochen took Yuxiu for breakfast.

After breakfast, they headed to the designated meeting point, where a bus was already waiting. A guide with a small red flag was counting the number of people.

Most of the group were elderly, as young people usually prefer driving themselves these days.

After the headcount, everyone lined up to board. Xu Shaochen and Yuxiu sat at the back.

The first stop was an ancient tomb with a long history.

“Hey buddy, could you move over? I need the window seat.”

A young man with a buzz cut, smiling, politely asked Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen nodded and moved aside.

“Thanks, man! That’s your girlfriend, right? She’s gorgeous, like a star.”

The young man sat down to Xu Shaochen’s left, pointing at Yuxiu and offering a heartfelt compliment.

“She’s wearing sunglasses. How do you even know she’s pretty?” Xu Shaochen asked.

The young man chuckled: “A feeling, man. She just gives off a beautiful vibe, with great presence.”

    “You’re a soldier, aren’t you?”

Xu Shaochen glanced at the young man before speaking.

The young man nodded: “Good eye, man. Just a lowly grunt, finally got some leave, so I’m taking a trip.”

    “A grunt?”

Xu Shaochen looked at him with a smirk: “So, the benefits of serving have improved? Even grunts get leave and time to travel now?”

    “It’s alright.”

The young man smiled, saying no more.
