Chapter Index

    Night fell.

Inside the private courtyard Deng Tianwen arranged for Xu Shaochen.

Xu Shaochen held Yuxiu in his arms while watching the news.

Yuxiu had just finished practicing yoga. She hadn’t changed out of her black yoga outfit which hugged her well, revealing her marvelous curves. Only a well-built woman could pull it off…

Damn, I’m getting off-topic. Back to the news.

The news broadcasted something about environmental efforts in the Northwest. Xu Shaochen spotted Ye Shilong, his father-in-law, giving a speech.

Ye Shilong probably would never forget the humiliation he suffered at Xu Shaochen’s hands.

Feeling the soft body in his arms, Xu Shaochen held her tighter. She was incredibly soft. Nothing could beat her as the ultimate tool for warmth and comfort.

Xu Shaochen felt like he deserved another nickname—’Husband’s Wife Xu’.

Yuxiu had long since been worn down by Xu Shaochen and accepted her fate. She resigned herself, letting him control everything.

To be self-deprecating, Xu Shaochen had now become the last pillar in her world.

“Did your family find out about Zhao Chen?”

Xu Shaochen asked casually, his hand gently stroking her shiny black hair. The fragrance of her locks filled his nose.

Yuxiu’s eyes were still swollen. Sneering at herself, she said: “Zhao Chen hates me to the core. He left for abroad, surely telling my parents everything I did.”

Now, she really had no home to return to. Born a pampered princess, Yuxiu really had become nothing more than an obedient pet for Xu Shaochen. What else was there for her?

“That’s perfect. Tomorrow we’ll visit your parents, say hello, then head back to Jiangzhou together.”

Xu Shaochen, as the man behind everything, said it all lightly as if it had nothing to do with him.

“What’s the point of going to Jiangzhou? I’m just a caged bird moving to a new cage. What’s the difference?”

Yuxiu’s smile carried a hint of sarcasm, her heart simmering with anger toward Xu Shaochen. After all, he couldn’t wash his hands of the mess her once-glamorous life had become.

Xu Shaochen pinched her smooth, jade-like chin and smiled. “It’s completely different. At least in Jiangzhou, when I want to admire this caged bird, it’ll be easier for me.”

    “You bastard!”

Even though Yuxiu often called herself a canary trapped in a cage, hearing Xu Shaochen say it still made her feel humiliated.

“I’d say I’m just a typical bastard, but your brother-in-law Zhao Fei… Now that guy’s a true lowlife. If he hadn’t drugged you, I never would’ve had such a great opportunity.”

Xu Shaochen released her and planted a teasing kiss on her pale cheek, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

“None of you are good people.”

Yuxiu bit down on her silver teeth, her heart brimming with sorrow and rage. She wished she could kill Zhao Fei, and murder the bastard standing in front of her right now.

However, that’s all it was—a passing thought.

    She didn’t dare.

From a young age, she’d been spoiled, living in absolute comfort, with everyone attending to her needs. She never had to worry about anything.

But now, her home was no longer an option, and the man responsible for her misery, Xu Shaochen, had become her only source of support.

If Xu Shaochen ever discarded her, she wouldn’t know how to live.

“Alright, drop the tantrum. Does it serve any purpose? I’ve been quite busy lately. You’ll come to Jiangzhou and be my personal assistant.”

Xu Shaochen saw through Yuxiu’s emotions long ago. Her insults didn’t bother him in the least.

To put it bluntly, even when a beauty cursed at you, she looked gorgeous.

The adorably dumb and voluptuous secretary Ye Ling handled office tasks, while the stunning, mature Yuxiu became the personal assistant. Xu Shaochen suddenly felt energized.

    Yes, full of energy.

“I am still married to Zhao Chen. Legally, we’re still husband and wife.”

    Yuxiu suddenly brought up.

Xu Shaochen was indifferent: “It’s just two pieces of paper. Doesn’t really bother me. I don’t care about that.”

Seeing his casual attitude, Yuxiu grew angry. Of course he didn’t care—he might even find it more exciting that they hadn’t divorced.

But what about my reputation? Yet she knew that her opposition would achieve nothing, so she simply clenched her jaw and swallowed her frustration.

Like a puppet, she would accept everything Xu Shaochen arranged for her.

    “Ring ring ring…”

    Xu Shaochen’s phone suddenly rang.

It was the general manager of Tianyu calling.

    Xu Shaochen answered casually, “Speak.”

“Chairman Xu, someone in the company suggested using real celebrities’ faces for the game NPC models. I wanted to hear your thoughts.”

Of course, they needed to ask Xu Shaochen’s opinion because licensing a celebrity’s likeness cost money. Without his approval, no one dared to proceed.

“Go ahead.” Xu Shaochen replied without hesitation. After all, many celebrities were under the Xu Corporation’s entertainment division. It would be foolish not to use such resources.

Using celebrities’ likenesses for NPCs would provide direct references, drastically simplifying the character creation process.

Plus, such models would attract fan interest, generating natural traffic for the game. It made things more fun. Why not?

As always, money wasn’t the issue. The issue was figuring out how to spend it fast enough.

“What’s the status on the game’s development?”

    Xu Shaochen asked.

“Thanks to ‘Little Sea’, we’ll definitely be ready to launch before the end of the year.”

After asking a few more questions about the game’s progress and emphasizing the importance of good marketing, Xu Shaochen hung up.

Tianyu’s official account posted game-related news regularly, mainly to maintain hype.

“Secretary Chen doesn’t think much of your game.”

After Xu Shaochen hung up, Yuxiu commented, implying that she wasn’t optimistic about the game either.

She couldn’t directly confront Xu Shaochen, so she had to settle for these small, petty remarks to vent her frustrations.

“That’s his loss. Once the game launches, he’ll be coming to Jiangzhou, begging me to put that project we discussed at dinner in Liao City.”

Xu Shaochen answered with full confidence.

“Haha, just having money doesn’t make for a good game. Without the right tech, it’s worthless.”

Yuxiu sneered at his inexplicable self-assurance.

“Money’s meant to develop technology, dear. Long hair, short knowledge. Your ignorance limits your imagination.”

As Xu Shaochen spoke, his fingers drummed casually on his thigh.

    “You…”

Yuxiu was livid, but in the end, she reluctantly started to massage Xu Shaochen’s legs, her movements methodical and skilled.

Here she was, a pampered lady of high status, raised with a silver spoon, adored by all. And today, she had fallen so low.

Xu Shaochen had truly broken her spirit. She was well on her way to fully becoming his luxury pet, his expensive canary.

Xu Shaochen worked tirelessly, night and day, damaging his lungs and kidneys just so Zhao Chen could be relieved of his burden. Zhao Chen should be grateful.

(Meanwhile, Zhao Chen abroad: “What the hell is this ****?”)
