Chapter 134: Some Things Are Still Unresolved

Wedding leave may be short, but the warmth remains.

Xiao Yu kissed a sleeping Mu Qingwu and got up to make breakfast.

    Ever since they’d been together,

Xiao Yu never once missed preparing a meal for Mu Qingwu.

It wasn’t about the food’s taste,

but about cherishing every single minute spent together.

    As breakfast neared completion,

just like always, his older sister’s tiny hand reached out to embrace her younger brother from behind.

Without words, they could feel each other’s heart.

After turning off the stove, Xiao Yu turned and hugged Mu Qingwu. “Sis, what did you look like when you were young?”

    “Hmph!”

Leaning against her brother, Mu Qingwu teased, “You’re not worth knowing!”

    “…”

Xiao Yu wanted to hit him. “Please, I’m begging you.”

“All you ever do is beg, beg, beg…”

Raising her head, Mu Qingwu glared at her brother playfully. “Why not just have a kid with me and find out?”

    “Haha!”

Xiao Yu burst out laughing as he planted a kiss on his sister’s cheek…

    “Alright then, let’s have one!”

    Criminal Investigation Team.

Xiao Yu stepped through the door as cheers of congratulations rang out.

“Boss, I’m here to cancel my leave,” he announced.

Entering the supervisor’s office, Xiao Yu handed Zhou Tinghu a cigarette.

These were Celebration Cigarettes, specially prepared by his sister for everyone on the team.

The formidable lady boss handled things in her own way, a mischievous younger brother never being able to catch up.

    “Thanks,”

Zhou Tinghu accepted the cigarette with a smile, but his expression shifted when he glanced at it.

“It was prepared by my wife,”

Xiao Yu chuckled, “They all are.”

Only then did Zhou Tinghu keep quiet.

He then headed to Zhao Changshan’s office to toss a cigarette to the big boss there as well.

    “Off to Capital City,”

Zhao Changshan took the cigarette and shot a somewhat conflicted look at Xiao Yu. “Go to National Security and check in. The big boss is waiting to see you.”

    “Alright,” Xiao Yu nodded.

Some things just can’t be avoided.

Unless he decides to leave the line of work altogether.

After all, he really enjoyed life in the Criminal Investigation Team.

The big boss was headstrong, unafraid of any challenge and fiercely protective.

While the boss was scholarly, his stubborn temper made him even more formidable.

Within the Criminal Investigation Team, Xiao Yu felt like part of one big family.

The big boss and the head honcho were like parental figures,

and the rest were their beloved children.

With such care from the elders, no one would ever want to leave home.

National Security was simply out of the question.

As long as Zhao Changshan and Zhou Tinghu remained in the Criminal Investigation Team,

he’d never set foot in National Security in this lifetime… (acch)

Outside the Criminal Investigation Team, Mu Qingwu’s Rolls-Royce waited.

    “Let’s go, to Capital City!”

Climbing into the car, Xiao Yu smiled at Mu Qingwu.

    “Hmm,”

Mu Qingwu nodded softly. “It’s time we paid a visit to our company’s headquarters.”

Curious, Xiao Yu asked, “Is it that big?”

He didn’t quite understand the business world.

But many top bosses preferred to set up shop in Capital City.

    “I’d say it’s pretty large.”

Leaning into her brother’s arms, the usually formidable elder sister softened like a gentle lamb.

The young couple then headed to the airport, opting for a privately rented airstrip.

    There, a small aircraft awaited.

Xiao Yu couldn’t help but feel emotional – it was their own airplane.

    After his reincarnation,

he had once given up the dull life of a rich man.

But in the end, he’d still become wealthy…

    Over four hours later,

the plane landed on the airport runway.

A fleet of business cars stood in waiting along the tarmac,

ready to welcome the chairwoman of the board.

Yet one Hongqi sedan was parked not far off.

The couple, stepping off the plane, exchanged glances.

    “See you tonight!”

Xiao Yu headed toward the Hongqi car while Mu Qingwu joined the motorcade.

    Beside the Hongqi vehicle,

Wang Dong grinned as he eyed his younger brother figure.

Xiao Yu glanced at the license plate and suddenly felt his heart race.

I swear my eyes are failing me.

My titanium alloy eyes are about to give out!

To be honest, the plate was a bit intimidating.

It read as if it were ‘Jing A’ with two zeros removed.

Just imagine the kind of car that must be!

    “The boss’s car?”

Xiao Yu blinked rapidly as he looked at Wang Dong.

    “Yeah,”

Wang Dong nodded with a smile. “The boss said that merit-worthy heroes coming to Capital City for honors should be treated properly!”

“Could you be any more exaggerated?” Xiao Yu nearly burst into tears.

Does he honestly think riding in the boss’s car is a blessing?

    Cut it out.

Who knows when someone might have you pinned down for good.

One minute you’re here and the next, you won’t even know how you died…

Capital City might be shallow and full of snakes, a place Xiao Yu never really wanted to come – and he meant it.

    “Enough chatter, get in.”

Wang Dong swung the car door open with a beaming smile as he looked at Xiao Yu.

A National Security team leader personally opening your door – can you handle that?

It’s like acting out some cheesy bromance… Xiao Yu got in.

    He could handle it!

    Along the way,

Wang Dong briefed Xiao Yu on the protocol for meeting the big boss.

There were a few formalities to observe,

after all, he was a top-tier boss.

Proper procedures had to be followed.

Xiao Yu half-listened, hoping to wrap it up quickly so he could leave and go hang out with his sister.

Who in their right mind would choose to spend time with National Security folks?

Upon arriving at the National Security building, Xiao Yu’s expression turned serious.

Led by Wang Dong, he was ushered into the Minister’s office.

After a series of checks, they finally stood before the office door.

    Wang Dong knocked gently.

Not long after, a middle-aged man emerged – the secretary.

He smiled at Wang Dong, nodded, and then turned his gaze to Xiao Yu.

“Comrade Xiao Yu, please come in.” The man stepped aside.

Xiao Yu took a deep breath and entered.

The office was spacious and solemn, yet not ostentatious.

An elderly man sat behind a massive desk, deeply engrossed in reviewing documents.

Dressed in simple attire, his white hair and gaunt frame made him appear even smaller as he sat.

The moment Xiao Yu stepped in, the old man looked up calmly, his gaze steady and captivating.

    “Salute!”

Xiao Yu, in full uniform, lifted his hand in salute.

The old man smiled lightly and said, “At ease.”

Xiao Yu lowered his hand and straightened his back.

“I called you in because I have a couple of questions for you,” the old man said, looking at Xiao Yu.

“What are your thoughts on our current era and country?”

Xiao Yu was momentarily stunned into silence.

“Are you unwilling to speak, or simply at a loss for words?” the old man asked with a smile.

“Honestly, I just don’t know how to put it into words.”

Xiao Yu looked steadily at the old man. “We don’t live in an era of peace; we’re merely fortunate to reside in a peaceful nation!”

The old man’s eyes suddenly lit up as he scrutinized Xiao Yu. “Then why not join National Security?”

Xiao Yu gave a slight smile. “Some things are still unresolved…”
