Chapter 106: Chaos on Sabaody: Halil’s Defiance
by xennovelTwo hours passed. Fields and Halil had wandered enough and were finally heading back to the ship.
“Clatter, clatter…”
Halil noticed the distant crowd was starting to panic. He grabbed a middle-aged man who was trying to make a run for it.
“Hold on! Tell me what’s going on?”
The man looked up at the two hulking figures, trembling uncontrollably. These two certainly didn’t look like the friendly type.
“The Celestial Dragons have arrived.”
“Please, lords, have mercy and let me go.”
Staring at the pale, tear-streaked face of the man, Halil quickly released his grip, seeing how scared he was.
“It’s fine, just wanted to ask. Go on.”
The man broke away like he’d been granted amnesty, darting off down the street but still glancing back.
“Thank you, thank you sirs! You’d better run too!”
The middle-aged man disappeared around a corner.
“Hey! Make way, quick!”
“Is that the Celestial Dragons?”
Hearing this, Halil looked toward the road in the distance.
A figure approached—head encased in a transparent glass bubble, dressed in white trimmed with gold, clutching a chain, and perched atop a person. Behind, a swarm of attendants followed as he swaggered closer.
Those in the crowd who didn’t have time to run dropped to their knees all around.
Saint Marlrose glanced over his shoulder and instantly spotted Halil standing by the roadside.
His eyes went wide, as if he’d discovered a new world, fat carrot-like finger pointing straight ahead.
“Fishman! Fishman! I want him as my slave!”
A butler in a black suit quickly bent low and whispered.
“Please wait just a moment, sir.”
Halil and Fields both had sharp ears and caught every word.
Arms crossed, the two stood their ground, looking at the approaching party with sneers.
“Thud, thud, thud…”
“Being chosen by a Celestial Dragon for slavery is an honor for you.”
“Let’s go.”
The commoners kneeling on both sides of the road lowered their heads even further, terrified they’d be chosen next.
Halil glanced at the distant Celestial Dragon, then fixed his gaze on the suited man in front of him.
“So if he tells me to go, I should? And who are you supposed to be?”
Hearing Halil’s reply, the suited man realized taking this fishman wouldn’t be easy.
He barked fiercely, “How dare you disrespect a Celestial Dragon!”
“Aren’t you afraid of the Navy Admirals?”
Halil shot a glance at this shorty—he barely reached Halil’s waist—his disdain clear.
Trying to threaten him with Navy Admirals was laughable.
If memory served, their captain Karl had taken out the Snow Lion Admiral himself.
“Hah! Do you even know who I am?”
“You want a Navy Admiral? Why don’t you go call one then!”
The suit realized this fishman was tough and unmoved by threats or bribes.
“You… don’t blame me for what happens next!”
He stepped back, extended his right index finger, and pointed at Halil.
“Finger Gun!”
“Crack!”
Seeing the attack, Halil grinned viciously and caught the man’s arm, hauling him up effortlessly.
The suited man tried desperately to pull free, but Halil’s grip only tightened.
“Let go of me!”
Halil watched coldly as the man struggled, the suit man’s yelling growing frantic while Halil delivered a few kicks, leaving his clothes visibly dirtier.
A flash of anger darkened Halil’s otherwise calm face.
“You’re starting to get on my nerves.”
“Crack!”
He slapped the man’s head with his left hand, crushing the skull, and then tossed the now-headless corpse down. With a twisted grin, Halil stared over at the distant Celestial Dragon.
The bystanders saw the unthinkable: a fishman had just smashed a Celestial Dragon’s attendant’s head to pieces.
At once, people leapt to their feet and fled. Chaos took over.
“Run for your lives!”
Over by the docks, Davis instantly sensed the commotion erupting in the city center.
He immediately unleashed his Observation Haki to get a sense of what was happening—face shifting the next second.
Without hesitation, he yanked over a ship-coating worker.
“You guys, hurry up with the ship’s coating! I need to set sail the second I get back!”
“Understood, Lord Davis!”
Thanks to the power of money, the job—which was supposed to take five hours—was about finished in three.
Davis took off into the city; he had to back up Fields and the others.
By now, near Island 1, every last civilian had already fled—no one wanted trouble with the Celestial Dragons.
Everyone knew just how terrifying they could be.
Unbothered, the Celestial Dragon pointed straight at Halil, his face twisted in rage.
“That damned fishman! He just killed my slave! All of you, get him! I want him as my new slave!”
Another suited man at his side quickly began giving orders.
“You few, go!”
A swarm of attendants and bodyguards charged at Halil and Fields.
Halil rolled his neck and grinned wickedly.
“I’ve never killed a Celestial Dragon before. Might as well start now.”
He hadn’t been off Fishman Island long, but he knew all about the slave trade on these seas.
Most of his fellow fishmen were bought by so-called Celestial Dragons.
“Fish-Man Karate!”
“Aaaagh!”
“My leg!”
Watching Halil barreling toward the Celestial Dragon, the bodyguards panicked.
“Quick! Call Vice Admiral Hodes on Sabaody Archipelago for backup!”
“And inform Fleet Admiral Hill—tell him to send an Admiral!”
Immediately, one underling pulled out a Den Den Mushi to call for help.
He stepped up to fight, knowing that if the Celestial Dragon got hurt, he’d never survive either.
“Hahaha, that’s it! Put on a good show, you slaves!”
Saint Marlrose watched the carnage as if it were a show, applauding and laughing on the sidelines.
He truly believed no one could ever harm him.
Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Hodes received the attendant’s urgent call.
“What?”
“Alright, I’m on my way!”
“Gather the Navy, we’re heading to Island 1! Move!”
“Yes, sir, Vice Admiral Hodes!”
Navy Headquarters.
“Well? Do we know who it was?”
“Got it, thanks.”
“Clack.”
After answering the call, Fleet Admiral Hill quickly pondered which Admiral was closest to Sabaody Archipelago.
“Bluu bluu!”
“Admiral Wenhu, is this you?”
“The Celestial Dragons are under attack at Sabaody Archipelago. Please head over right away.”
“Understood, Fleet Admiral Hill.”
“Let’s hope the Celestial Dragons don’t stir up more trouble.”
Back on Sabaody, Halil was now standing right in front of the Celestial Dragon.
Saint Marlrose, still sniffling, climbed down from his human mount and fired a shot, killing the man instantly.
Raising a golden pistol, he aimed it straight at Halil.
“I want you as my slave! Kneel! I want to trample you beneath my feet!”
Halil stared at this arrogant Celestial Dragon, honestly surprised—was anyone really this stupid?
“Are you really not afraid of dying?”
Without a word, the Celestial Dragon fired three shots, hitting Halil square in the chest.
“Bang, bang, bang!”
“Clang, clang, clang!”
Halil looked down at his cherished shirt from home—now it had three glaring holes in it.
He slowly looked up at the Celestial Dragon, his face blank and cold.
“You really deserve to die!”
“Whoosh!”
A moment later, Halil swung his massive fin-like right hand, swatting the Celestial Dragon away. The glass bubble shattered in an instant.
“Boom!”
The Celestial Dragon crashed into a building behind him.
“Open fire!”
“Bang, bang, bang!”
Just as Halil moved in for another strike, a wave of Navy soldiers poured in from the right.
“Golden Light Spell—Defensive Shield!”
Fields stepped forward and summoned a giant shield with the Golden Light Spell, sheltering them both.
“Let’s go!”
“Let me at him—I need a moment.”
Halil knew exactly what Fields meant—they couldn’t afford to linger on the island any longer.
But that Celestial Dragon’s arrogant words and actions had truly disgusted him.
Striding over, he dragged the Celestial Dragon from the rubble, tucked him under his arm, and bolted for the shore alongside Fields.
