Chapter 191: A Duel Among Giants and the Blood Trial Proposal
by xennovel“Seeing it in anime and witnessing it in real life are two completely different things.”
Karl couldn’t help but sigh as he watched from the side—in the anime, their duel just looked impressive.
But now, watching carefully in person, every swing of their weapons gave off a crushing sense of pressure.
Just their enormous size alone made the force behind their weapons feel like it could shake the air.
No wonder an adult giant can match a typical Vice Admiral. If they trained with precision, some could probably reach even higher ranks.
“Two guys over a hundred years old, still fighting this fiercely… Giants really are born different!”
Karl couldn’t help but envy them. He wasn’t sure he’d have this kind of energy when he hit a hundred.
Brogy swung his axe with his right hand, bringing it down hard on Dorry.
Neither of them ever held back in a duel. That was their way of showing respect.
Dorry brought up his shield with his left arm, deflecting the axe’s blow, then thrust his longsword upward with brutal force.
Brogy, a seasoned warrior himself, took a step back and blocked the longsword with his shield.
Bang!
Their attacks clashed and separated in a heartbeat.
But they quickly recovered and faced each other again.
“Come at me with everything you’ve got!”
“Bring it on!”
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Their weapons crashed together with wild energy, the nearby volcano erupting in the background—it was like a living work of art.
Three hours later!
“I forgot how long their fights can last.”
“You can’t just keep fighting like this forever, can you?”
Perched in the treetop, Karl rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
Maybe I should step in and lend them a hand?
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Suddenly, something changed on the battlefield. Maybe word got out that Karl was about to join in, or maybe Brogy and Dorry were simply reaching their limit.
After another quick clash, both giants staggered backward, retreating in a frenzy.
“Kababa-baba-baba!”
“Giah-giah-giah-giah-giah!”
“This is another draw,” Dorry laughed, tossing the words out casually.
Brogy chuckled. “Looks like we’ll have to wait for next time to settle this.”
“Hey, kid over there!”
“You’ve been watching us for a long time now.”
Karl had been quietly enjoying their conversation, but suddenly their attention turned straight to him.
He gave a wry smile, surprised to find they’d noticed him from the very start. Jumping down from the tree, he walked over.
“Hello! I’m Karl. I actually came here to find the two of you.” He stepped up and introduced himself first.
Brogy and Dorry each scratched their heads, unable to figure out why Karl had come.
Over the years, they’d seen plenty of pirates pass through this island. Sometimes crews, sometimes just people stopping briefly.
But never had someone come here alone, much less with such a clear purpose—even just coming right out and saying they wanted to find them.
“So, what brings you here?”
Dorry asked, puzzled.
Brogy wore the same questioning look.
“Why don’t we eat while we talk?”
Karl’s suggestion caught the two giants off guard for a moment.
“Kababa-baba-baba!”
“Of course! Come on, follow us,” Brogy slung his axe over his shoulder and strode toward the volcano’s edge.
Dorry followed right behind.
Naturally, Karl couldn’t chicken out. He walked along at a steady pace behind the two giants.
When they reached the other side of the volcano, Karl saw a massive grill surrounded by piles of giant bones.
“Wait here a minute.”
Once they arrived, Brogy turned to Karl.
“Sure, no problem,” Karl said, stepping forward and finding a smooth enough bone to use as a seat.
The two giants didn’t say much more, just headed off into the depths of the forest.
Soon, the ground echoed with thunderous roars.
The giants soon returned, carrying a colossal dinosaur back to the grill.
Dorry got straight to work, slicing the dino’s belly open and tossing out the organs. He rinsed it quickly in the nearby river, then set it on the grill.
“So, what exactly did you come to us for?”
“I’d like to establish relations with your Giant Tribe.”
“But because someone close to me made an unforgivable mistake among your people, I wanted to see if there’s any way to fix things.”
The two giants exchanged a stunned look. They hadn’t been home in years and had no idea what had happened.
“What did your loved one do?”
Karl shook his head with a bitter smile. “When she was five, she accidentally came down with ‘Gluttonous Disease’ and killed your giant hero, Jorlul the Bearded Falls.”
“So, I was hoping you might know how to repair our relationship with the Giant Tribe.”
Brogy tore a massive leg from the dino and started devouring it with gusto.
“What’s happened to the Giants these days? Even a five-year-old kid could hurt a hero like Jorlul?”
Brogy clearly didn’t think much of the Giants of Elbaf anymore.
A hero of the giants taken out by a human child—then even hated by the whole tribe? That’s not like the Giants’ straightforward nature at all.
Looks like a lot had changed in the tribe during all these years they’d been away.
“If you want the Giants’ forgiveness, then you’ll have to undergo the Blood Trial,” Dorry said matter-of-factly.
“What’s the Blood Trial?” Karl asked, confused.
Karl had never even heard of this Blood Trial in the original story.
Is it some challenge unique to the Giants?
“Dorry!” Brogy suddenly shouted, face turning serious.
The Blood Trial was a deadly challenge—people really died in it.
And there was no set time limit for when it could end.
“So, what is the Blood Trial? If it’s possible, I’m willing to give it a try,” Karl said bluntly.
With his current strength, how many trials could still truly scare him?
Brogy saw the resolve in Karl’s eyes, set down the dino leg, and began to explain.
“The Blood Trial means you have to survive for thirty days in the central arena of the Giant Kingdom. Each day, a different giant will fight you.”
“If you last the full thirty days, you’ll have finished the Blood Trial—and you can make a request of the Giant King.”
“As long as your request isn’t beyond the Giants’ power, the King will accept it.”
Karl hadn’t expected something like this.
The Blood Trial actually sounded pretty interesting.
“If I want to participate, are there any conditions?”
Karl wanted to make sure—surely the Blood Trial wasn’t just limited to giants?
Otherwise, he’d still be stuck.
“No, no, the Blood Trial is open to anyone. You just need someone to vouch for you,” Brogy quickly said, waving his hand.
“But one thing’s crucial—once you enter, you can’t back out for the full thirty days. If you quit early, the whole Giant Tribe will hunt you down for breaking their sacred oath.”
