Chapter Index

“So cool! Adventure, adventure!” Luffy copied Chopper’s excitement and dashed to the storage room with him. They grabbed two sets of diving gear and, with a splash, leaped after Usopp into the water.

At Ye Fan’s signal, Gin jumped in too—his job was to make sure if Luffy or Chopper’s diving equipment sprang a leak, he could fish them right back out.

    “Whew!”

“Ships from the sky, huh? So that means Skypiea really does exist.” Sanji reached the edge of the ship and looked over the corroded hull and moss on top of the cabin. He instantly figured this wreck had probably been abandoned somewhere for decades.

“But we still haven’t found the way up to Skypiea. Don’t tell me we actually have to fly?” Nami let out a sigh, staring at the Eternal Pose in her hand. All three of them spun continuously in circles—until she lifted her hand straight up, and every needle pointed skyward.

    “Skypiea definitely exists.”

“As for how to get there, I’m guessing Mr. Ye Fan knows the answer.” Robin was tired of people always pulling her strings. So when she sensed Ye Fan was hiding something deeper, she took her first step to coax out his secret.

No one was sure where Robin had gotten her information, but everyone instinctively turned to look at Ye Fan.

Ye Fan hadn’t expected Robin’s one comment to put him right in the spotlight. He could only shrug helplessly, figuring the timing was good enough anyway.

He opened his mouth and told them straight out. “That’s right. Skypiea does exist.”

“There are two ways to get there. The first is to search for the Sea of Clouds. That’s in the West Blue—there’s a patch of cloud current that shoots straight up. If you catch it, you’ll reach Skypiea.”

“The second is to look for an Upstream Current. You ride a powerful surge that blasts skyward, but the surge shows up at random times.” As Ye Fan finished, Nami fell deep into thought.

“So that’s it. I was wondering why the currents in this sea are so strange. Turns out it’s because of the Upstream Current.”

Nami’s sense for ocean currents was among the very best in all the seas.

From the moment they’d arrived, she’d noticed small, swirling eddies forming just below the surface. She’d wondered about their purpose, thinking maybe strange terrain was to blame.

Now it seemed those whirlpools were just the beginning—they all fed into a single, mighty current shooting for the sky.

    Splash!

    Clatter!!!

Usopp, with a massive pack on his back, burst out of the river first and landed on the deck.

    Whoosh, whoosh!!!

He dumped out a huge pile of gold, with a few books and ornaments spilling after.

    “Wow!!!”

“Berries!” The moment Nami spotted the gold, she forgot everything else and dove straight for the treasure, her eyes turning star-shaped with delight.

Luffy, Chopper, and Gin popped up next, each with a pack of their own. They dumped all their haul from the sunken ship out onto the deck.

Wow! A treasure trove of gold!

The packs from everyone turned into a glittering pile, dazzling in the sunlight.

Nami was the first to run back to the cabin. She hauled out a massive wooden chest, even taller than herself, slammed it down on the deck, and started stuffing every piece of gold, jewel, and berry inside.

Robin stepped over and picked up a battered, weathered book—a diary signed by a Captain Aris.

A few well-made blades among the loot caught Zoro’s eye. But when he picked them up, he realized they were just decent quality, so he handed them over to Johnny and Yosaku.

    “Big bro Zoro!”

“Thanks, Zoro!” The two each gave Zoro a bow, then took a blade apiece and stowed them with their own swords.

    Shing! Shing!

The faint sound of blades being drawn rang out. Despite drifting in the Sea of Clouds for decades, these two swords were perfectly preserved. Their edges gleamed with a cold sheen under the sunlight.

    “Chopper—pew! Pew! Pew!”

    “Luffy!”

Chopper and Luffy had both found some toy pistols in the pile. They faced off and started shooting at each other. The pistols were loaded with rubber bullets—harmless, but they gave a little sting when they hit.

“Hey, check that out—I can’t believe they had these here.” Sanji’s sharp eye spotted a red box among the treasure.

On top of the red box were two bold characters: Zhong Hua.

“I only ever managed to swipe a single pack from the old man, but there’s an entire pile here!” Sanji couldn’t help grinning with surprise.

The Zhonghua brand of cigarettes was all the rage in the New World. Not quite as famous in the Four Seas, but it was still a luxury for bigshots.

Back in the day, Sanji had been lucky enough to get a box from the old man. The taste was on a whole other level.

Now, to find a whole crate—ten cartons, ten packs each? That’s a hundred packs in total. Enough to keep him smoking for ages.

Usopp also found a ship repair journal, full of details about storms at sea and the types of wood and parts needed for repairs. It would help keep any ship in top shape.

“Whoa, looks like it’s from the year 1498!”

Robin’s quiet reading drew everyone’s attention.

But Robin didn’t seem the least bit nervous. She just kept reading aloud. “February 7th, 1498. We finally stepped onto the Skypiea we’ve dreamed of all this time.”

“There’s a vast white ocean here, and the locals are really warm and friendly.”

“That’s where we met the Skypieans—the people here all have two wings on their backs.”

“We decided to rest up for a time and discovered incredible shells that can store fire or wind and other powers—a must-have for sailing these seas.”

“February 20th, 1498. We seem to have gotten swept up in a massive war. Since the age of the Great Pirates began, more and more crews have made it to Skypiea. Most importantly, they uncovered the Golden Bell, a monument made entirely of gold!”

“Maybe it was greed, but I led my crew to go after the Golden Bell too.”

“Dozens of pirate crews fought for it. That’s when, on that day, we saw the power of a god…”

    “God?”

“Robin, keep reading!” Luffy’s eyes lit up with interest at the mention of some so-called god.

Anything unique or out of the ordinary—person or thing—on the high seas instantly caught Luffy’s attention. After all, adventure was in his blood.

“It’s not that I don’t want to, but that’s all it says. As for what happened next, I think the sunken ship tells the rest of the story.”

As Robin said that, everyone’s eyes drifted back to the pile of treasure and loot on the deck. Clearly, after this so-called god appeared, every pirate crew ended up dead—no exceptions.
