Chapter 462: Adventures Beckon: Into the Devil’s Triangle
by xennovelIn Water 7, sunlight sparkled over the rippling sea as Luffy basked in the excitement of their imminent departure.
They had just convinced Franky to join the crew—a former master shipwright, now set to serve as carpenter aboard their new ship, the Thousand Sunny.
The Straw Hat Pirates were gearing up for another grand adventure.
Their next destination: the legendary fog-shrouded waters known as the Thriller Bark.
This sea, cloaked in perpetual mist, was infamous for its mysteries—a place so daunting, pirates and explorers often steered clear. But for Luffy, that unknown danger was the real draw, especially since they also had Laboon’s wish to fulfill.
On Thriller Bark—the massive ship drifting through the mist—resides one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, Moria.
He wasn’t the same Moria who once lost to Kaido of the Four Emperors in the New World, but rather the one who’d recently taken up residence in these waters.
Though never truly defeated, Moria had always been obsessed with creating and controlling zombies.
He believed that by experimenting with zombies, he could further develop his Shadow-Shadow Fruit powers and become even stronger.
With his Shadow-Shadow Fruit, Moria could manipulate others’ shadows—even fashion terrifying zombie armies.
In these waters, he never stopped searching for suitable bodies and souls to strengthen his forces.
A few days after setting sail, Ye Fan was awoken in the cabin by the ruckus outside. He stretched with a groan, yawning, and couldn’t help but feel a bit exasperated.
He muttered under his breath, “Seriously, how long has it been? Still not over the excitement?”
Since Franky came aboard, he’d quickly bonded with Usopp, who shared his love of inventing. With Usopp’s help, Franky had transformed himself into a true cyborg.
He announced his handiwork proudly: “Super!”
Right now, Franky was showing off in front of Chopper and Luffy, poking his nose so each push made his hair flip into a completely different style—as if he were a one-man styling show.
His arms had turned into toolboxes, able to pop out everything from screwdrivers and wrenches to a handy little cutter at a moment’s notice.
“That’s so cool!” Luffy couldn’t help but gush.
“Hey Franky, how’d you manage all that?” Luffy asked, curiosity written all over his face.
“Let me try! Let me try!” Chopper, his legs pumping, bounced up eagerly to Franky, his eyes alight with fascination.
Franky grinned and began explaining his modifications to Chopper—how he’d blended Usopp’s inventions with his mechanical know-how to craft himself into a walking, talking marvel.
Not only had the surgery boosted his combat strength, it also made him a true standout in the crew.
“Boss Lady, you’d better come out! Something up ahead looks a little off!” Johnny’s voice rang out urgently from the crow’s nest, with a hint of nervousness.
Johnny had taken over lookout duty from Usopp, charged with keeping watch from above and sounding the alarm if danger threatened the ship.
Meanwhile, Yosaku was in charge of furling sails and tossing anchor, while Gin helmed the wheel, steering them through whatever trouble came their way.
“Wagadagaga! Wagadagaga!!”
Nami, clearly not fully awake, was in a mood that could sour milk.
“Dun dun dun dun!!!”
The mischief brewing among Luffy, Chopper, Franky, and Usopp ground to a halt. All four dropped to their knees instantly, clutching the big bumps on their heads, and as one they pleaded, “Sorry, please forgive us!”
Nami—the crew’s navigator and undisputed boss lady—stepped out of the cabin into the blazing sea air. Bikini-clad, she peeled off her face mask and gazed ahead at the wall of thick, black fog.
“Honestly, can’t a girl get her beauty sleep around here?” Nami grumbled, though her eyes shimmered with curiosity and a spark that craved adventure.
“Looks like we’re right at the edge of the Devil’s Triangle.”
Robin lounged on a deck chair, hands wrapped around a cup of coffee Sanji had just brought her, intrigue and anticipation glinting in her eyes.
Having come through Enies Lobby with a new lease on life, Robin had decided to live differently now.
These days, few things could truly shake Robin’s calm.
The Devil’s Triangle—a territory filled with legends of vanished ships and unspeakable dangers. For most sailors, it was a graveyard to avoid at all costs.
“By the way—didn’t Ye Fan say Laboon’s friend Brook is somewhere in these waters?”
Luffy scratched his head, clearly digging deep to recall what Ye Fan had mentioned.
“Ah, that rings a bell.”
Ye Fan answered as he stepped out of the cabin, splashing water on his face—surprised to see the sun already swallowed by dusk when just moments ago it blazed bright.
Thinking back on Luffy’s question, Ye Fan figured they’d just crossed into the Devil’s Triangle.
“Hey Ye Fan, is Laboon’s friend Brook really in the Devil’s Triangle?”
Chopper piped up, curiosity lighting his little face.
Ye Fan looked up at the ashen sky. “We’re definitely in the Devil’s Triangle now.”
“Brook is here—he’s a character like no other…”
“Alright, full speed ahead!”
Under Luffy’s command, the Thousand Sunny plunged straight into the wall of mist.
As Ye Fan began explaining Brook’s story to everyone, a crowd of battered ships suddenly appeared all around.
“Why are there so many ships out here?”
Luffy, wide-eyed at the endless stretch of wrecks, sprinted to his usual lookout seat and strained to see ahead.
“Honestly, this place is a real graveyard for pirate ships.”
“Huh, I’ve heard rumors about this spot,”
Sanji draped his scarf over the entrance handle and made his way toward the others on deck.
“It’s called the Devil’s Triangle because it’s Moria’s territory—one of the Seven Warlords.”
“His ship’s called Thriller Bark. It’s a gigantic vessel the size of an island. Since it’s tough to move, he parks it here and lures in stray pirate ships … those sunken wrecks are proof enough.”
“Heave-ho, heave-ho!”
“Nanda? You mean that one?”
Luffy stood and pointed at Chopper, who was still struggling by the safety rail at the edge of the deck.
Earlier, they’d spotted a barrel drifting in the water and, thinking it might hold treasure—or maybe fine booze—they’d lowered a rope. Chopper had been reeling it in ever since.
