Chapter 87: The Rampage at the Manor
by xennovelAs Long Yi made his way back to the base, loud crashes from the direction of the manor caught his attention.
“This isn’t good. Things sound pretty bad.”
Long Yi’s face changed. He immediately changed course, ditching his original plan and rushing toward the manor with the children.
When he finally arrived, the scene before him was almost too much to take in.
The entire manor lay in ruins.
“Slick Slick Panel!”
“Mochi Party!”
Long Yi didn’t know Charlotte Linlin suffered from eating fits, but that didn’t stop him from jumping into action.
First, he turned and sent the orphans off to hide in the woods outside.
“Stay here for now. I’ll come back for you as soon as I can.”
“Did you hear me?”
“Got it, big brother.”
Long Yi nodded at them, looked back, and dashed toward the manor.
“Be careful, big brother!”
A little girl shouted after him, her voice heavy with worry as Long Yi sprinted away.
“Don’t worry!”
Long Yi waved back reassuringly as he ran.
“Boom!”
“Crash…”
“Thud!”
“Bro, are you alright?”
Perospero got careless for a moment and was sent flying by Charlotte Linlin’s massive sword. If she hadn’t been in a crazed state and neglected to use Armament Haki, he probably wouldn’t have survived that blow.
“I’m hanging in there. Not sure how much longer I can keep this up, though.”
Perospero wiped the blood from his mouth just as Charlotte Linlin’s sword came swinging down again. Instantly, he pushed Katakuri out of the way.
“Move!”
“Boom!”
The two of them were blasted into the air by the force of the shockwave.
“Mamamamama!”
“My cake!”
“Fish-Man Karate, 3,000-Watt Straight Punch!”
“Bang!”
“Crack!”
Just then, Krell arrived. He’d sent word to Charlotte Linlin that morning, and by that time, they’d already been close to Beehive Island.
Still, after landing, Krell had gone to see her alone for a report.
So earlier, he’d been sorting documents and property back at the base.
Suddenly, he heard the loud crashes coming from this direction. Instantly, he realized something was wrong and hurried over.
Krell knew about Charlotte Linlin’s eating fits, but it had been so long since her last that he hadn’t truly seen one in person.
Seeing the wild look in her crimson eyes, the way she seemed not to recognize anyone…
He guessed right away—this was one of her episodes.
No time to hesitate, he leapt forward to stop Charlotte Linlin’s rampage.
“Katakuri, check on the cake! See if it’s done yet.”
“Alright, brother. You keep her in check.”
Katakuri got back on his feet as soon as he heard Perospero’s shout.
He sprinted toward the kitchen without a second thought.
He knew the only way to calm Mom down was to get that cake ready as fast as possible.
As for whoever caused all this trouble, he trusted their father, Karl, would root them out soon enough.
“Golden Light Spell!”
Long Yi reached the scene and instantly unleashed the Golden Light Spell, conjuring brilliant golden ropes that wound around Charlotte Linlin’s legs.
“She’s not budging.”
Long Yi pulled with all his might, but it was like trying to move a mountain. Charlotte Linlin’s legs wouldn’t so much as twitch.
“Slick-Slick Hell!”
Perospero wasted no time, using his Candy-Candy Fruit to make the ground slick and treacherous.
“Fish-Man Karate – Over-the-Shoulder Throw!”
Krell came in for the assist, toppling Charlotte Linlin to the ground.
Then he cast Golden Light Spell as well, binding her ankles and wrists together.
It finally made a bit of a difference.
But all they’d really done was slow her down from getting back up.
“She’s way too strong… Is this never going to end?”
“Sizzle…”
“Crack…”
One by one, the Golden Light spells snapped and fell away from Charlotte Linlin’s body.
“Longbread, is it ready yet?”
“Yes, yes! Let’s move!”
Katakuri dashed into the kitchen just in time to see Longbread pushing out the cake cart.
Seeing the finished cake at last, Katakuri couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face.
“Finally!”
Without wasting a second, he grabbed the cake cart and pushed it into the arena as fast as he could.
“I’m here!”
“Cake!”
“Mamamamama!”
“Crash!”
In that moment, Charlotte Linlin suddenly dropped her sword the instant she saw the cake—completely ignoring everyone else as she stomped toward her prize.
She didn’t spare anyone a glance, just trudged toward the cake with heavy steps.
“Thud, thud, thud!”
She plopped down, picked up the cake with both hands, and dug in, chewing away in bliss.
“Munch, munch!”
Seeing that Charlotte Linlin had finally calmed down, Krell and the others all breathed a sigh of relief.
Krell glanced around to assess the state of things, then looked at Long Yi and Perospero.
“How did this all happen?”
“Sorry, Krell.”
“I… I didn’t think it would turn out like this.”
Seeing the guilt all over Long Yi’s face, Krell realized it had clearly started with him.
“What happened? Tell me everything.”
“On the way back, some pirates attacked us. Long Er ran here to ask for help.”
“Then there was this huge bang and a blazing sun or something. It all got pretty wild.”
“Those pirates retreated once they heard all the explosions over here.”
“I thought it was over, so I headed back toward the base.”
“But on the way, I kept hearing more crashes coming from here, so I ran back to see what was happening.”
Perospero rubbed his chin as he listened to Long Yi’s account.
“So that’s how it went.”
“Then the one who smashed the cake earlier must’ve been Long Er.”
Just as Perospero finished, Compote and the others came back.
They’d also brought the children who’d been hiding in the woods. Turns out, they hadn’t gone far and returned as soon as things quieted down.
“Hey!”
“Big brother, we’re back!”
“Glad everyone’s safe. As for the mastermind behind this, leave it to me to find out!”
Krell saw Long Er in the crowd and breathed a little easier. Next, he set his sights on finding whoever was pulling the strings.
Katakuri did his best to comfort their siblings.
“Mamamamama!”
“What just happened to me?”
Charlotte Linlin blinked back to herself, looking around in confusion at the disaster all around.
“That’s how you get, Mom.”
Perospero walked up and quickly filled her in on everything that had happened.
After listening, Charlotte Linlin called Krell over.
“Mamamamama!”
“Krell, I’ll send some of my people along to assist you.”
With Charlotte Linlin’s crew pitching in, the search would be much easier.
“Of course, Lady Linlin.”
But Krell noticed the shift in Charlotte Linlin’s expression and immediately tensed up, not even getting a chance to speak.
“Hmm… not good.”
Charlotte Linlin frowned, clutched her stomach tightly.
She realized that the shock of this episode had sent the three little lives inside her into a rush—they were trying to enter the world early. In other words, she was about to give birth prematurely.
“Hurry, bring me some high-energy food!”
“I’m about to have these babies.”
A shadow fell across her face. The new lives inside her felt so strong. If they were born early, would her bloodline pass on properly?
If not, she’d hate today’s mess with everything she had.
She’d want revenge on whoever was behind all this.
“Lady Linlin, please, rest inside. We’ll get food ready right away.”
Krell’s expression grew grave. He clearly understood how serious things had become.
Only after seeing Charlotte Linlin safely into an undamaged room
did he call for more servants to help with the birth and preparations.
They also needed people to repair the manor and keep Charlotte Linlin safe.
No one knew if the mastermind might try something while all this was going on.
Krell also ordered Long Yi and Long Er to stay and keep watch over Charlotte Linlin.
He tore off toward the base to fetch all the high-energy food he could find.
Over the past eight months, Krell had been gathering ginseng, wolfberries, and other nutritional ingredients throughout the New World, and cultivating them on a large scale across the Sweets Sea.
Another key thing—he needed to call Lord Karl immediately to update him on what had happened.
“Deliver these supplies that way—quickly!”
“Long Yi will be waiting for you.”
As soon as Krell got back to the base, he set everyone moving, sending the food to Charlotte Linlin as priority.
The pirates didn’t know exactly what was going on, but since Krell himself was in charge,
they wasted no time, packing everything up and heading right for Charlotte Linlin’s base.
“Move, move!”
“Pick up the pace!”
Everyone was moving fast, ferrying loads of supplies toward Charlotte Linlin’s place.
“Brrring, brrring!”
“Hello?”
“Is this Lord Karl?”
