Chapter Index

Yang Bo piloted the mecha, leaping into the air once again. In the distance, the fighter jets noticed the mecha whistle past from above, causing the mutants below to quickly scatter.

Mutants had the ability to hide in the grasslands, making it impossible for the fighter jets to detect them from above.

“Huh? Why can’t I contact the fighter jets?” Yang Bo was startled earlier, worried that if the jets contacted him, he’d be in trouble. But he didn’t expect the mecha couldn’t reach them.

The female officer quietly remarked from behind, “Maybe it’s due to electromagnetic interference, or the mecha’s communication is faulty?”

“Nonsense,” Yang Bo muttered to himself. However, he began to suspect. The mecha was controlled remotely by a game player, so it was likely the fighter jets were part of the fleet and unaware of it. Only certain sentry bases could communicate with the mecha.

Yang Bo’s guess was correct. The player-operated remote mecha was part of a confidential mission, known only to a few top-level individuals in the fleet. The pilots operating the fighter jets were unaware, hence no communication channel existed.

With the mecha, the speed of movement was much faster. Yang Bo avoided traveling in a straight line since the mutants might track him once discovered.

Watching sparrows and other small animals fly around, Yang Bo resisted the urge to shoot them with his laser cannon. If not for the officer behind him, he would’ve already started blasting them.

“I wonder where the invisible mutants are hiding. We need to locate them.” After more than an hour, Yang Bo reached the mountain area. However, as he looked around, he felt a bit suspicious.

“Officer, that’s Outpost 15 over there. Where’s Outpost 16?” Yang Bo, piloting the mecha, stood atop the mountain. From this vantage point, he could see far into the distance. Fighter jets launched lasers, and warships in the sky emitted beams as well.

“Outpost 16 is on the other side of the grassland.” The female officer’s single sentence nearly broke Yang Bo’s spirit.

He felt like this female officer was his nemesis. While there wasn’t necessarily any problem with her, something about being with her made him uncomfortable. He almost wanted to use the energy weapon to cut someone.

“Officer, what’s the plan now?” Yang Bo wasn’t sure what to do next. If he were alone, he’d dive into the underground world. But now, he had to think of a way to ditch the officer.

“I don’t know either. The fighting at the sentry post still looks fierce. My suggestion is that we stay here and wait for a while.” The female officer hesitated before speaking.

“What kind of mutants are they deploying? With that many fighter jets and warships firing, the intensity is still this high?” Yang Bo looked on, confused by the situation.

With the attack frequency of both the fighter jets and warships, what kind of mutant could hold out this long? “The mutants’ bio-mechas are hard to lock onto. Their bio-mechas can change attributes and composition. Most mutants are good at hiding. Once concealed in the grasslands, the jets and warships can’t lock onto them.”

“This planet itself also has some strange energy fluctuations that heavily affect technological products, especially the laser’s auto-lock system.”

“It’s a shame the planetary alert system was destroyed. Otherwise, the system’s multi-radar array could lock onto targets. But even if the target hides in the grasslands, it’s still tough to secure a lock. Plus, the railgun consumes too much energy, making it unworthy to kill a single mutant, especially a lower-tier one.” This time, the officer had a lot more to say.

She didn’t even know why she said so much. She hadn’t spoken this much in ten days. Yang Bo was becoming even harder for the officer to figure out.

Of course, Yang Bo already knew about the strange energy on this planet that affected radar. The deeper underground one went, the stronger the effect.

Last time, when Yang Bo’s mecha ventured underground, the radar was severely impacted. This could be the main reason humans haven’t fully taken over the planet yet.

However, what puzzled Yang Bo was that if the radar suffered such heavy interference, why did the game run so smoothly? Could it be that these are two different systems?

Yang Bo had a feeling that the female officer was aware of his curiosity, making him a bit uneasy. What was this woman’s superpower? Mind-reading, perhaps?

The female officer’s brow furrowed slightly inside her helmet. She couldn’t read Yang Bo at all. Given her S-rank sensory ability, it was usually impossible to hide anything from her.

As an A-rank mental evolver, she could usually tell if someone was lying with just a look or an expression. But Yang Bo gave her a strange feeling, as if everything he said was both true and false.

Moreover, the energy waves Yang Bo emitted earlier when clearing the path felt extremely strange. It was unlike anything she’d ever sensed before.

Inside the mecha, the atmosphere grew tense.

The eerie silence made Yang Bo uncomfortable, so he broke it, “Why don’t we check out another sentry post? Waiting here isn’t helping.”

    “Alright,” the officer agreed immediately.

Yang Bo was speechless. He had suggested it, hoping the officer would disagree, giving him a reason to part ways.

“Do you have some kind of plan?” The officer asked after noticing Yang Bo’s slightly displeased expression.

Yang Bo was startled. His suspicions about the officer deepened. “I do have an idea. The mutants attacking our post must have left their nests less defended. How about we go check them out?” Yang Bo was trying to find an excuse to ditch the officer. If she agreed, he’d escort her through the underground passage and find a chance to slip away later, maybe by pretending to use the restroom.

“The mutants’ lairs are well hidden, and they operate under a tribal system. They always leave enough guards behind, even during raids. The tribal rivalries are also intense. Even if they mount an assault on us, they’ll still leave plenty of forces behind.” The officer explained.

“Alright then. What about Outpost 16?”

“Outpost 16 is across the grassland. The grasslands were relatively safe before, but now, who knows? Everything’s gone chaotic. Mutants might be everywhere.”

“Fine, let’s head to Outpost 16.” Yang Bo now only thought about dropping off the officer there. Then he could go check on Iron Bull or grind skills. He regretted even greeting her earlier and thought he should have just gone through the lake’s underwater passage alone.
