Chapter Index

Yang Bo didn’t care anymore why this test scenario was so realistic. He changed into an insulated protective suit and grabbed a shovel, poking directly at the electric eel.

The electric eel, stimulated, began discharging continuously. All the goldfish in the fish pond died, floating belly up.

Crack! The electric eel, in pain from being hit by Yang Bo’s shovel, shot out, only to be struck down again by Yang Bo’s quick response.

    Electric Power Control +1!

Yang Bo chuckled inwardly but outwardly remained composed as he retrieved a trash bag, putting in the electric eel’s corpse, its head smashed by the shovel, along with the goldfish corpses.

The entire garden was cleaned up. Final simulation test score: 85 points. Points were deducted for not using the right tool to deal with the electric eel, and for missing a poisonous plant that was mixed in with the other plants.

“I reacted pretty quickly just now. The moment the eel moved, I almost instinctively knew where it was headed. Could this be Dynamic Vision in action?” Yang Bo removed the virtual headset, sipping tea while pondering.

Skills! He thought the word ‘skills’ in his mind.

    Swimming: Intermediate (24/100)

    Dynamic Vision: Beginner (4/10)

    Camouflage: Beginner (4/10)

    Electric Power Control: Beginner (1/10)

    Sonic Location: Beginner (1/10)

“Tsk tsk, this company is pretty insane. During the simulation training, I felt something was off. It was too realistic, but not quite real. Could it be image processing at work?”

“Electric Power Control, huh? Is it like discharging electricity like that eel?” Yang Bo wondered, considering how to test it out.

Meanwhile, at An Zhijie Corporation, Liu Zhijie received a data report. There were red, green, and gold data points shown.

“Such fast neural response times—could it be the awakening of an ability in that area?” Liu Zhijie opened his computer to carefully watch footage of Yang Bo breaking the electric eel’s head with a shovel—fast, fierce, and precise. Most people couldn’t pull that off. It’s one thing to hit an eel’s body, but its head, especially underwater?

“Better observe him for now.” But Liu Zhijie wasn’t certain, because some abilities are pretty useless in practice.

Yang Bo decided not to run any tests for the time being. What to do first? Of course, it was time to exploit the system! Simulated exams could be taken a maximum of twice per day. Due to time constraints, each test involved tasks like cleaning the garden, cleaning rooms, or cleaning the basement.

One thing Yang Bo regretted was not discovering this earlier. But there was nothing he could do, since he hadn’t met the minimum time requirements for unlocking tests.

Killed a fluorescent poison frog. Light Energy Control +1!

Killed an electric eel. Electric Power Control +1!

Killed a bat. Sonic Location +1!

Killed a snake: Thermal Imaging Vision +1!

With only one day left until the end of the training, Yang Bo checked his skill levels.

Swimming: Advanced (103/1000)  Camouflage: Beginner (4/10)  Sonic Location: Intermediate (18/100)

    Dynamic Vision: Intermediate (12/100)

    Thermal Imaging Vision: Beginner (5/10)

Electric Power Control: Beginner (6/10)  Light Energy Control: Beginner (4/10)

“Too bad there are no more mutant creatures, or I’d be loaded with skills by now.” Yang Bo looked at his abilities. Most of them were randomly acquired. Killing poisonous creatures in the simulation didn’t always reward abilities. Many insects, like spiders, centipedes, and ants, didn’t give anything.

Otherwise, Yang Bo figured he’d be set.

“Looking forward to tomorrow’s final test.” Yang Bo stood by the window, gazing out at the community. It was already dark outside; apart from the streetlights, everything else was in shadow.

His mind stirred. Thermal Imaging Vision! Suddenly, Yang Bo’s vision changed to thermal imaging mode. The range seemed to be about 100 meters.

    “Light Energy Control.”

“How should I test Electric Power Control?” Yang Bo worried about causing too much noise. Even though there wasn’t a smart system monitoring him, who knew if discharging electricity might cause a power outage?

As Yang Bo hesitated, Liu Zhijie also kept an eye on Yang Bo’s training progress.

“Tsk tsk, this kid does have a violent streak. When dealing with small animals, he doesn’t hesitate at all.”

“Well, that’s good. Some people recruited by other branches completed tasks, only to turn around and report the company. Although their reports lacked evidence, the impact on our reputation is not great. How does the client see us after that?” Liu Zhijie felt relieved. Yang Bo, meanwhile, was lying in his bathtub, watching his glowing finger. It looked like a 15-watt energy-saving light bulb. He was baffled.

    “Is this Light Energy Control?”

“Is it because the skill level is too low?” Yang Bo watched his glowing finger. After experimenting a bit, he realized that he could make any part of his body glow, but the light couldn’t detach from him.

Suddenly, an idea hit him. He looked at his glowing index finger and then raised his middle finger. Both fingers began glowing brighter and brighter.

“It actually works.” Yang Bo could clearly feel the heat radiating from his fingertips.

He then dipped his glowing finger into the bathwater.

Sizzle!  Steam rose from the bathtub water, along with a sizzling sound.

Yang Bo glanced down at his body, wondering: Could this thing be used for heating… Ahem. The key issue was that the light was too blinding.

“Looks like my ability isn’t strong enough yet.”

“Will it be like a Light Element spell when it’s at a higher level?”

The light on his fingers faded. Yang Bo really wanted to experiment with Electric Power but feared making too much noise.

Slowly, he familiarized himself with releasing light energy.

“This is a bit useless, honestly.”

“The release duration is too long, and the temperature is too low.”

“I don’t really see many practical uses for it right now.” Yang Bo ran some more tests but felt mentally tired. The results were not very promising.

“And this skill can only be leveled up by killing creatures. I’ve used the skill multiple times, but no experience was gained.”

“The experience points for leveling up multiply by ten. Beginner: 10 points, Intermediate: 100 points, Advanced: 1000 points. What levels come after that?” Yang Bo pondered for a moment, then went to rest. Using his abilities took a lot out of him.

The next morning, after washing up, he casually prepared some food for himself, brewed tea, and got ready for the final test. The higher the score in the final test, the more tasks he could take on later.

He put on the virtual headset. Yang Bo was ready for the last test. To be honest, the test was fairly procedural. It involved using the right tools and following the correct procedures for specific poisonous creatures.

The top priority was personal safety. However, during tasks, if you encountered poisonous creatures, you could earn more money for dealing with them.

As the virtual environment shifted, Yang Bo found himself at the entrance to a garden. He couldn’t tell whether the test was real or not, as the graphics could be either enhanced reality or optimized to look real.

“Countdown starts now.” The real test had a time limit, and a voice echoed in Yang Bo’s ear.
