Chapter 139: City Lord? Lord?
by xennovelThe Alliance’s Chief Justice was processing documents when he suddenly received a confidential communication. After opening it, he was instantly dumbfounded. The existence of Green Demon Planet wasn’t a secret to the higher-ups, but too much was involved. The organizations, members, and even foreign forces played a role, making it impossible for the Alliance’s judicial system to intervene without evidence.
Two hours later, the Alliance Parliament, Judicial Department, and Military held an official meeting with Yang Bo.
“First, on behalf of Green Demon Planet, I acknowledge that hundreds of years ago, the planet belonged to the Alliance.” Yang Bo was the first to speak. This was indeed a fact.
Hearing these words, the people from the Alliance all nodded.
“We have concrete evidence that the Grey Ash Organization has colluded with the Crimson Federation. As long as we can have autonomous governance, we will hand over all the evidence of the Grey Ash Organization’s crimes to the Alliance’s Judicial Department,” Yang Bo continued.
“Thank you!” The people from the Judicial Department were overjoyed. The Grey Ash Organization was a gray-area entity, and it had proven difficult to catch them in the act. They even hired top lawyers to get themselves off the hook.
“Our demand is simple: we want our planet to be autonomous. We leaders will establish cities on the surface and set up businesses. We welcome major Alliance companies to invest and conduct research here, but, of course, all of this will be under the Alliance’s judicial supervision.”
“Additionally, we require that the Alliance prioritize using this planet’s tax revenue to fund the planetary fleet’s construction. The recent pirate attack is the best example of why this is crucial,” Yang Bo added.
Military brass grinned widely. Even though they were Genetic Evolvers, the potential tax revenue once Green Demon Planet was developed was obvious to everyone.
“To protect the native inhabitants’ interests, we demand that the Alliance not seize our lands, nor conscript our people for any external wars.”
“Naturally, we can also choose not to leave the planet. We can continue living right here. However, each of the mutant leaders will be entitled to a territory. On this land, we will abide by Alliance laws, but the Alliance must also respect our local customs.” Yang Bo said as he looked around to gauge reactions.
The Speaker of Parliament responded, “Please remain calm. We will give you an answer within three days.”
“Of course, but within these three days, we also need more than 1,000 people. These are researchers from the Alliance or other nations who are stationed at research bases on the planet, along with a great deal of classified information!” Yang Bo stopped there.
Many legislators who heard the word ‘information’ felt their heads pound, while others couldn’t help but feel giddy. After all, these classified materials were of critical importance. If Green Demon Planet became independent, these documents would naturally be delivered to the Parliament. And when that happened, everyone would be able to take their share of the pie.
“Green Demon Planet has always been under Alliance rule. It’s only due to various incidents in the past few centuries that the Alliance hasn’t exercised its control.”
“The demands of Green Demon Planet’s residents are in accordance with the Alliance’s judicial procedures!” The Chief Justice slowly announced.
“Thank you, Your Excellency.” The communication was then cut off. Yang Bo and the others escorted the Four Seas Company and Grey Ash Organization personnel back to the Underground World.
Over at the Alliance, the first to suffer was the Four Seas Company. Based on surveillance footage, the Judicial Department immediately locked all permissions for the company before beginning to seize documents and arrest people.
It happened so fast that the Four Seas Company had no warning.
One of the company’s general managers was riding in his luxury anti-gravity hovercar when the vehicle suddenly stopped and its doors opened.
The general manager was curious, as they hadn’t yet reached their destination. Suddenly, he heard a voice outside: “Step out of the vehicle. You are surrounded. Please cooperate and avoid any dangerous actions, or we will be forced to use lethal force.”
Baffled, the general manager stepped out, only to find that drone police had surrounded the area, with someone walking up holding a pair of handcuffs.
“Officer, this…” The general manager raised his hands in a hurry and spoke.
“Sir, please refrain from speaking. You are involved in a serious crime. Anything you say will be presented to the court as evidence,” the officer immediately warned him.
The Judicial Department took such a bold action to pressure the Parliament, essentially saying that if future interests weren’t guaranteed, life wouldn’t be easy for their people.
The Alliance’s judiciary operated independently, and although technically Parliament could amend laws, doing so was no easy task.
The Chief Justice served for life. By now, all the major families and forces had taken control behind the scenes, resulting in a relatively balanced society.
The Judicial Department, despite its internal factions, would always unite in the face of external interests. Many of these factions had links to parties in Parliament.
In any case, the relationships between the Military, Judicial Department, and Parliament were so complex that an ordinary person couldn’t possibly figure them out.
But the Judicial Department needed its own interests. After all, without sufficient profit, the department’s internal factions wouldn’t benefit.
Even a family with two branches — one in the judicial system and one in Parliament — would be united yet still internally competitive.
“Are we going to be lords now?” Back in the Underground World, Old Third Huang and the others were ecstatic.
They all looked at Yang Bo. Yang Bo nodded, “Theoretically, yes. City Lords, Landlords.”
“Haha, that’s incredible.”
“Yes, absolutely incredible!”
“What about the supplies in the Grey Ash Organization’s warehouse?” Old Third Huang and the others asked Yang Bo.
While there were many mutants, they were wary of Yang Bo. After all, few could storm a spaceship and wreak such havoc. That wasn’t something an ordinary person could do.
“I’ll first return the biological mecha to the organization, then come back.” Yang Bo nearly forgot there was a warehouse. Of course, he intended to take some quality goods with him. It was a shame the mecha’s storage space was so limited.
“Alright, we’ll wait for you,” Old Third Huang and the others were thrilled. That warehouse surely contained countless treasures from the Grey Ash Organization. Unfortunately, they hadn’t opened it and didn’t dare force it. It was clearly under Yang Bo’s control.
Yang Bo initially planned to farm some experience. Once things settled down, a large-scale search for residents would begin. Though it might take two to three months, he needed to find a place to hide and let someone else find him.
“This godforsaken place is good for leveling up skills but terrible for living. There’s no entertainment, and the women aren’t attractive,” Yang Bo grumbled to himself. Besides, he wasn’t even a mutant. Who knew if he could still play mecha games once he got back?
