Chapter Index

Yang Bo nodded. “Of course we gotta do it, though the compensation is a lot, I’m afraid it won’t be enough.”

“What are you going to do with all that money?” the Fat Boss asked curiously.

“I’m planning to build an apocalypse bunker or something like that. If danger comes, I could stay inside for ten, even eight years.” Yang Bo looked around both sides of the road on March Planet. There was little greenery, and strange objects littered the rooftops.

Liu Zhijie nearly choked on his own spit. An apocalypse bunker? A small spaceship would be better. But after thinking about it, a spaceship could be bought, but the maintenance, upkeep, energy, and information services would be too expensive.

“Isn’t that a bit unnecessary?” The Fat Boss thought Yang Bo was one of his close aides and decided to gently remind him.

“Boss, no need to persuade me. I’ve got the money anyway.” Yang Bo immediately replied.

Then Yang Bo asked, “Boss, what’s on top of this building?”

“That’s a high-voltage electric grid. There are many animals here, and a large portion of them are quite dangerous. Usually, every planet at the beginning of its development is like this. However, there are no deadly animals here. The city’s defense system took care of those long ago.”

“Of course, there are still some that slip through the cracks. The defense system on this planet isn’t as strong as the older Administrative Stars. But that’s why business here is booming.” Liu Zhijie continued.

Yang Bo nodded. An Zhijie Corporation dealt with dirty work, both legal and illegal. They even helped people destroy evidence and the like.

Plus, this emerging planet is like the Wild West gold rush in Ame. More crimes probably come with it…”

“By the way, don’t go telling people you got a billion in compensation. You don’t want others to take notice.” As they got off the vehicle, the Fat Boss quietly warned. He knew the Grey Ash Organization was offering a reward for information about the recent leak. Yang Bo clearly didn’t know about it.

Besides, with the Grey Ash Organization taking a hit, other shady groups would definitely kick them while they’re down. The Fat Boss knew the company had already taken out several of the Ashes group’s people.

The bigger your name, the harder you fall, and more people will jump in to tear you down. Don’t think those who’ve dealt with the organization will forget; they’ll take you out when they can.

“I understand. I won’t say a word. Only you, Boss, are good to me.” Yang Bo replied earnestly.

“This is our dorm, and the company is just across the street. It’s a short walk to work.” The Fat Boss pointed to a four-story building, then gestured at another building across from it.

He led Yang Bo to his accommodation and let him pick any room. Yang Bo chose a spot on the second floor. With high-voltage electricity on the roof, who knew if something unlucky might happen.

“For now, you’ll be staying here alone.” The Fat Boss took Yang Bo to the dorm. It was a two-bedroom apartment with a living room, fully furnished.

Yang Bo looked outside at the walls. They seemed to have external panels resembling spaceship armor.

“Everyone else bought houses, but since we had issues on the way here, the compensation was huge. Especially for children and women, they got more, with extra government benefits like ten years of tax exemption. The company also gave some subsidies. The largest compensation went up to 40 million.” The Fat Boss shrugged.

Yang Bo nodded. Children and women are the most vulnerable, after all.

“This place is very safe. Over there is a city defense cannon.” The Fat Boss pointed into the distance.

“Take a rest first. Tonight, I’ll treat you to dinner. Tomorrow, we’ll handle your affairs. In the afternoon, we’ll test your strength. Don’t go to the government to register just yet. Our residents have many benefits; for example, most purchases are tax-free.” The Fat Boss planned everything carefully for Yang Bo.

Yang Bo nodded. An Zhijie Corporation had a ton of Genetic Evolvers, but without exception, they were all low-ranking citizens. After buying a house, their annual taxes were significantly reduced, and personal income taxes were incredibly low. The higher a citizen’s rank, the more taxes they paid. Of course, they earned way more as well.

Yang Bo nodded again as the Fat Boss left.

“Not bad.” Yang Bo opened the fridge and found it stocked with plenty of food and drinks.

While talking, Yang Bo used Sonic Detection, discovering that the room had strong shielding. It seemed the walls used materials similar to those that blocked radiation in warships.

“This planet seems pretty interesting.” Yang Bo also picked up a book. It was the March Planet Dangerous Creatures Field Guide.

“Over 630 species. This is scarier than a tropical rainforest.” Yang Bo checked the index and saw an impressive number, mostly reptiles and a few that camouflaged themselves as plants.

There were butterflies that sucked blood and ants that loved gnawing on metal. These ants could spray a highly corrosive venom that dissolved metal, allowing them to absorb the liquid.

There was also a crawling creature similar to a combination of leeches and mosquitoes. It could sense heat and crawl toward the source.

Even fist-sized spiders ate meat and blood, and they actively attacked humans.

Out of the 630 species, only 30 were deadly. The remaining 600 were dangerous, mostly causing harm with toxins or venom. Some produced neurotoxins; others had blood toxins. They weren’t fatal but still extremely painful.

Additionally, everyone was warned not to venture into the wild carelessly, as there were many unknown dangerous creatures.

To go on an expedition, you needed a permit and had to pass a test proving you could handle various creature encounters.

Another warning advised not to wade deeper than five meters in the ocean, as the sea contained unidentified marine life. On the shores near Alma City, there were specific areas for recreation where the beaches were protected and safe.

“Should I check the Mecha game?” After washing up, Yang Bo decided to log in and see if the game was still playable.

He entered his credentials and logged into the game, finding everything normal. Base 16 was still there.

An official announcement mentioned a promotion: after mechs were damaged, only a small repair fee was required to revive them for a limited time.

“Looks like this is a real game now.” Yang Bo felt a bit disappointed. Base 16 had already been destroyed.

He controlled the mech to walk around, killed two rats, and confirmed his suspicion as no skills were added.

“Dear players, the game is undergoing a version update soon. Please check the official website for notifications. Additionally, a second apocalypse game instance will open for mecha battles.” Yang Bo read a notice sent to his inbox a few days ago, his mind full of questions.

“Does this mean they plan to keep the mecha game running?” Yang Bo had a theory. Since the mutants had submitted, the game would likely continue collecting Gene Serum materials. After all, player labor costs were lower, while it was harder to say for the mutants.

“I wonder how the game officials will handle the mutant situation. Maybe a new expansion pack?” Yang Bo couldn’t figure out the game’s next step, but he was looking forward to the apocalypse scenario.

“Looks like in future military operations, they could use remote control mechs. Could this mean the Alliance has wars elsewhere?” Yang Bo speculated.

After Yang Bo disappointedly logged out of the game, he had an epiphany. Slapping his thigh, he quickly got back in-game. “A virtual game is perfect! If the in-game data is real, I can just explore dangerous areas to find good stuff!”
