Chapter 153: Building Plans
by xennovelWhat Yang Bo didn’t know was that the Red Earl’s people on Pado Planet were scared to death. The warship they sent to block the space warp passage had been wiped out. They only knew the enemy was a main fleet with at least one Jin Gang-class main battleship.
The rest was unknown. The Red Earl’s people on Pado Planet frantically tried to communicate with the Parliament, threatening to kill hostages if denied. But the Parliament stood firm, saying it was impossible.
The Red Earl’s people now regretted it immensely. Centuries of preparation had encountered an unexpected turn, and even their contact in the military had disappeared. Clearly, something had gone wrong.
No matter how hard they racked their brains, they couldn’t figure out where this sudden main fleet had come from.
Space warp passages were unique to this star domain, supposedly some sort of space wormholes. If powerful bombs were detonated around the wormhole, the energy could destabilize it, making it impossible for spaceships to pass through.
Without using the space warp passage, they would need to take a detour, which would take years, even decades.
Both sides of the space warp passage had automated monitoring systems to detect energy data from the passage and check for anything like asteroids. In fact, there were such systems along the entire spaceship route to provide data to ships in transit and spot pirates or other anomalies.
Originally, the Planetary Fleet from Green Demon Planet had planned to return to the Alliance for repairs and to refit their main warship with secondary vessels. But before they could do so, they received an alert from a monitoring station on the other side of a nearby warp passage. A fleet was attacking the station.
The fleet initially thought it was pirates. The commander of the main warship, gritting his teeth, was the first to charge ahead.
Meanwhile, the Pado Planet Planetary Fleet, which had been laying bombs near the warp passage, was stunned when the main warship suddenly appeared.
Even the warship that had just warped through looked confused. Then, someone in the rebel fleet sent out a distress signal, revealing that Pado Planet had been taken over by the Red Earl and the fleet’s high command had also defected.
They began firing at one another, but clearly, the main warship had superior energy shields. The enemy warships exploded under the assault. The main warship pressed on, leaving two other warships to clean up the battlefield and hold the warp passage while it set course for Pado Planet.
The Alliance Parliament, receiving the report from the former Green Demon Planet main warship, finally realized Pado Planet had rebelled. Simultaneously relieved yet furious, they cursed the officials on Pado Planet.
They secretly authorized the main warship to stop the rebellion at all costs, even if it meant turning Pado Planet into scorched earth. At the same time, the Alliance cut off Pado Planet’s communications, though it was too late. Pado Planet had already sent out public demands for independence…
Yang Bo wasn’t in the mood to practice combat techniques anymore. He spent several hours watching the news, with all sorts of rumors swirling. Some claimed the Red Earl planned to revive slavery.
The Red Earl’s forces had reportedly started killing high-ranking officials, and there were even vampires involved.
Little did anyone know, it was Yang Bo’s own ‘Disaster Star’ physique that had forced the Red Earl, after centuries of preparation, into such a fleeting existence. And this time, all of the Red Earl’s top leaders had gathered on Pado Planet. After all, who wouldn’t show up when they were trying to control a planet?
That evening, Yang Bo looked into his fridge. The vegetables looked strange, with stick-like leaves. After some research, he learned it was because Alma City endured six months of strong winds each year. Most plants here had such leaves to avoid damage from the gales.
“A place like this…” Yang Bo finally realized why the land was so cheap and why there weren’t many trees—thanks to the strong winds.
“Oh well, it’s not like I’m afraid.” Yang Bo shook his head. The cheap, high-altitude, secluded land was just right for some of his plans. With the ocean on one side and a river on the other, it would be easy to escape if needed.
The next day, Fatty contacted a representative from a construction company.
“Marlin, this is Yang Bo.”
“Yang Bo, this is Marlin. He’s a designer from the construction company.”
“Nice to meet you,” Yang Bo said as he shook hands with Marlin. Then Marlin prepared to listen to Yang Bo’s requirements.
“I need a doomsday bunker. It must block all detection. Underground, it needs to be big and tall enough for me to store supplies. Also, the energy supply should last at least ten to twenty years, and it needs a fully independent recirculation system,” Yang Bo laid out his conditions.
After listening, Marlin opened a virtual device that displayed Yang Bo’s land.
“The geological structure of Mr. Yang’s land is ideal for building the bunker you’ve requested.”
“We have extensive experience. We design bunkers that go 300 meters underground, with a five-story structure. Each floor is five meters high except the third, which is twenty meters tall. The lowest level is dedicated to equipment and features three-layer warship-grade armor on the walls.”
“We will also install a new power system capable of running for fifty years. This system was originally used on old warships,” Marlin continued.
“How much does a set cost?” Yang Bo asked, intrigued. He figured he could use this tech to build spaceships someday.
“Twenty million, including the full ecological recirculation system.”
“Then add a second set for backup,” Yang Bo said with a wave of his hand.
“Mr. Yang, do you have any preference for the internal layout? We have some ready-made designs, or we can create a custom plan.” Marlin brought up a list of 3D models.
After looking carefully, Yang Bo selected a circular design.
“Okay, and what size?” Marlin asked.
“I only have a budget of just over a hundred million…”
“Got it. Mr. Yang, you qualify for a 30% subsidy from March Planet. Plus, our company offers a 9% tax reduction, which we’ll extend to you. So you only need to cover 61% of the total cost, which brings it to about 165 million. That will get you a diameter of around 800 meters.”
“You can go that big?” Yang Bo was stunned.
“Yes. We use leftover materials from warship construction to make the armor. There are no defects or radiation concerns.”
“Building this bunker is much simpler than building a spaceship. We just dig out the underground area, weld the armor in place, cast a layer of radiation-proof material, then add the second layer of armor, the second layer of radiation-proof material, and finally, a third layer of armor. The entire process is automated with robots using modular components.” Marlin explained.
Yang Bo nodded while Marlin continued, “Given the size of your land, we’ll have to build out toward the ocean. Is that okay?”
“Will that cost extra?”
“No. In fact, coastal land comes with the right to use up to five nautical miles of sea. Otherwise, how could a rich person buy coastal land if the sea wasn’t theirs?” Marlin explained.
“Hmm.”
“And as for the surface buildings, Mr. Yang, do you have any specific requirements?”
“None of the above-ground structures should have smart technology, but they should be well-defended. And along the back and sides of my house…” Yang Bo began thinking about the blood-sucking leeches he’d caught on Green Demon Planet for defense. He wasn’t too concerned about ecological damage, as he’d do his best to keep them contained.
“We specialize in that. The rooms connected to the internet will use special materials, and they will be the highest grade in terms of soundproofing and radiation insulation. The outer walls will be embedded with spaceship defense-grade armor, and the windows will be made of the strongest…”
Yang Bo was pleased with the design. The plan showed a two-story building with a footprint of over 200 square meters.
“Would Mr. Yang like this area to be altered as well? We have several proposals for the tall grass and shrub area.” Marlin pointed to the wild growth.
“Do you have any animals that eat grass?” Yang Bo asked, leaving the other two people visibly stunned.
