Chapter Index

Yang Bo looked at the batteries online; the cheapest ones were graphene batteries that cost a few dozen credit points, while the most expensive were nuclear-powered batteries costing hundreds of thousands or even millions of credits. The nuclear-powered batteries were for mechas.

Yang Bo bought a graphene battery for over a thousand credit points, a model that allowed voltage adjustment.

An hour later, the battery was delivered downstairs. Since it was a private community, drone deliveries were not allowed inside, so it could only be left at the community gate. The property management delivered it to the building entrance.

The battery was a rectangular block, 20 cm in length, 15 cm in width, and 12 cm in height. It was entirely black, and the positive and negative terminals were two concealed ports. This battery held about 5000 kilowatt-hours of electricity.

Yang Bo grabbed two forks, sticking one into the positive terminal. In an instant, he knew his guess had been right, feeling a warm current flow from his hand into his body.

The sensation was like soaking in hot water at an Earth bathhouse. It felt like every cell in his body was excited.

After 20 minutes, the battery had lost 20% of its charge, and Yang Bo felt his whole body ache before he stopped.

After putting the battery away, Yang Bo threw himself onto his bed and fell asleep immediately, feeling completely exhausted.

The next day, Yang Bo woke up feeling full of energy, although his stomach was incredibly hungry. He quickly drank two cartons of milk.

“Could it be that electrical stimulation enhanced my physique?” Yang Bo speculated again.

“I wonder if there are any black markets in this world. It would be great to get a live electric eel. I’ll deal with it after work.”

“Since this E-level training involves physical objects, could there be other types of training or similar things that also involve physical objects?”

“Maybe I can play the mecha game when I get back tonight? Controlling mechas requires quick reflexes.” While brushing his teeth and making breakfast, Yang Bo’s mind was filled with many thoughts.

As for why Yang Bo didn’t ask Liu Zhijie, it’s because gene evolution abilities were kept secret by individuals. Unless you joined the military or other large organizations, you wouldn’t have the opportunity to learn more about these abilities. Even then, the gene evolution abilities of others would just be a reference since everyone’s genetic sequence and activated genes differed, leading to different abilities. This information was already widely known online.

Of course, it’s also possible that certain organizations monopolized this kind of information.

Someone might ask why. It’s the same reason why large nations on Earth monopolize powerful weapons. These major powers hold onto this information because they fear others will obtain it. If you want access, you need to join them.

In other words, it’s a case of class monopoly! Liu Zhijie also mentioned that at birth, everyone is subject to genetic testing, and those with the best aptitudes are immediately reserved by the military…

Yang Bo looked at last night’s news again, seeing the report about the Grade C gene evolver who died in a bus accident. The police had declared it an accident.

Yang Bo frowned deeply. He had a strong feeling that this person was targeting him and could tell that the man had died at his hands. Otherwise, how would he have gained the ability to pilot a mecha?

But how exactly he killed the person, Yang Bo still wasn’t sure…

Today, Yang Bo chose to take a driverless taxi. Once inside, he just had to state his destination.

Previously, when Yang Bo lived in government housing, taking taxis was not allowed, and even upscale malls prohibited entry to prevent public criticism. People would question how someone benefiting from federal welfare could afford to take taxis.

However, compared to Earth, where many people living in affordable housing still drove luxury cars, this world was much more reasonable.

When he arrived at the company, Yang Bo first checked the available tasks. He preferred to choose garden-related jobs, hoping for some sort of unexpected reward, but unfortunately, garden cleaning jobs were highly sought after.

This was because if you found rats, poisonous spiders, or anything else outside of standard services while cleaning the garden, the employer would have to pay extra.

Yang Bo’s task permission level was the lowest. If someone with a higher task level accepted a job, the lower-level worker wouldn’t be able to participate.

“Pool cleaning.” Since there were no garden jobs, he chose the highest-paying alternative.

After accepting the task, Yang Bo went to pick up the equipment. This time, there was a lot of gear.

There were also various chemicals and devices. The company dispatched a dedicated vehicle for the task. Yang Bo got into the car.

When they arrived at the location, they unloaded the gear outside the gate. Surprisingly, the staff used an internal combustion engine vehicle to transport the gear to the poolside.

Even though Yang Bo had already seen the pool’s dimensions, he was still astonished. It was a massive pool, at least 2000 square meters, with a style resembling a natural water hole like those Yang Bo had seen in Earth’s streams. The pool had a teardrop shape.

After donning protective gear, he first poured disinfectant into the pool, then set up the water extraction equipment. Since the water was full of algae and debris, various filtration tools were needed. The water was drained directly into a nearby forest.

Opposite the pool stood a three-story villa. Through its large floor-to-ceiling windows, Yang Bo could see the interior decor and people moving inside. There were also some abstract artworks displayed on the walls.

“I wonder who lives there.” Yang Bo muttered to himself.

Once the disinfectant had enough time to work, he activated the water extraction equipment and checked the filtration system. The extraction was powered by an old-fashioned electric motor with a battery attached. It had no smart control system, only a few buttons.

Yang Bo next grabbed a water gun to pressure wash the pool.

As he rinsed the pool while extracting water, he used cleaning equipment that resembled a grass trimmer but was battery-powered and had a brush head on the front.

After cleaning, he rinsed the pool once more and sprayed it with special disinfectant, then performed a final wash before refilling the pool.

For Yang Bo, this was easy compared to his previous life. He collected all the filters and other materials from the filtration equipment, packed them into trash bags, and completed the task. The butler meticulously inspected it, and then Yang Bo left.

He earned 1200 credit points. Surprisingly, this simple physical labor paid quite well, more than some gene evolvers made. Then again, it made sense. Most civilians, raised in welfare institutions, were accustomed to an easy life and wouldn’t be willing to do such work.

After finishing the task, Yang Bo hurried back home, eager to farm electric eels for power control training. He could get in another three rounds of E-level simulation training.

Looking at the D-level training, which required 10,000 points plus an additional 3,000 points to select the target simulation.

“After all this calculation, E-level training still seems to have the best value. Defeating one electric eel adds +1. Yesterday, I was lucky enough to encounter three in one go. In D-level training, even if I’m facing a gene-polluted beast, at most I’d get +2, but D-level costs three times as many points as E-level.” Yang Bo calculated carefully and decided that D-level wasn’t worth it.

“Oh well, let’s continue farming Electric Power Control.” After a moment’s thought, Yang Bo grabbed his virtual headset since the death of the Grade C gene evolver had made him extremely uneasy.
