Chapter 186: Zoning Out?
by xennovelThe other players watching this scene were dumbfounded. While the principle was simple, it was obvious at a glance.
But executing it perfectly came down to hand speed and reflexes.
Keep in mind, the opponent was an automatic attack system equipped with a Central AI System, so its response time was off the charts.
Everyone in the Military, even the well-experienced Military Leaders, were shocked by Yang Bo’s bold move.
Although Yang Bo hit the opponent, his mech’s shoulder was also struck by the opponent’s laser cannon.
Yang Bo simply controlled his mech to leap into the air. He initially wanted the enemy’s Defense Cannon to take out his mech so he could use his revival opportunity.
Unexpectedly, when the mech jumped, the Defense Cannon didn’t react.
“Brothers, I’ll go ahead and scout.” Yang Bo shouted over the public channel, then immediately charged forward.
An awe-inspiring scene unfolded as Yang Bo’s one-armed mech, fully equipped with a mech weapon and jetpack, shot forward like a missile.
“Everyone charge!” One of the players, fired up, roared and controlled his mech to leap forward.
Dozens of mechs swarmed toward the enemy’s military base.
“How lucky!” Yang Bo reached the Defense Cannon and found it had indeed been destroyed.
The military leaders snapped back to reality and quickly began discussing.
“The concept is simple, but it’s extremely difficult to pull off.”
“Exactly, anyone could think of it, but the key lies in execution speed.”
“Everything must align perfectly—brain processing, neural reflexes, and hand speed. One small mistake and you’d get hit first.”
“In other words, this guy’s nerve reaction speed is on par with medium-level automatic attack systems!”
“Impressive!”
“This guy is talented, but something feels off. Based on his history, he shouldn’t know this stuff.”
“With that nerve reaction and hand speed, he’s at least a high-level Mecha Pilot. In real life, he’s likely an A-Class Evolver.”
It wasn’t just the military leaders discussing. Even the Captain aboard the warship on the planet above seemed surprised watching the scene.
He kept trying to recall where he had seen those precise movements of the mech jumping from rooftop to rooftop.
Yang Bo and his team were once again suppressed at the military base. After breaking through the outer Defense Cannons, they completely destroyed them and continued infiltrating the base.
The base spanned over 100 square kilometers, and all the buildings were constructed with concrete reinforced by warship armor.
Ahead of Yang Bo’s group, there was a building that appeared to be the transport ship hangar. Two shooting ports had opened on its sidewall.
Two lasers fired from the ports, instantly incapacitating two mechs.
“Snipers!”
“This is what I hate most about this game—snipers.”
“These two snipers are strong.”
“The ones they just destroyed were pretty good players I’ve teamed up with before.”
The public channel buzzed with discussions. Yang Bo was encountering sniper mechs for the first time.
Sniper mechs were a niche category among Mecha Pilots, and only high-level Mecha Pilots could operate them.
To put it simply, these pilots’ battlefield judgment was sharper than a Central AI System or any automated system.
Otherwise, there would be no need for these sniper mechs.
Especially because their predictive abilities surpassed most intelligent systems.
Yang Bo looked at his battered mech, getting ready to make a desperate move. His mech’s laser cannon was gone, but he still had two revivals left.
Yang Bo assessed the terrain around him. His squad was pinned down behind some scattered buildings, with 500 meters between them and the hangar.
The base’s defense architecture had been designed with this 500-meter shooting range in mind.
“I doubt it’s just two snipers.” The 500-meter gap was a deliberate defensive measure. Yang Bo suspected there might be more surprises hidden.
Without further explanation, Yang Bo stepped back and activated his jetpack at full power.
The mech instantly accelerated, the enemies opened fire, but Yang Bo tilted his controls, and his mech moved in a graceful arc, dodging the attack.
But the next moment, Yang Bo’s screen went black.
“They’re definitely skilled!” Yang Bo realized his mech had been hit by another sniper.
Sniper mechs carried laser weapons with power comparabto small laser cannons. Once hit, there was no escape.
Yang Bo’s actions made the other players frown in disapproval. The players who had followed him in the charge began to comment.
“That guy got carried away.”
“In reality, sniping mechs are at least piloted by A-class Evolvers.”
“It’s like he’s given up. His mech was already useless by then.”
“It was a reckless move. So, what do we do now?”
“How about a mass charge? With this many mechs, at full speed, we could cover the 500 meters in half a second.”
Yang Bo revived again, but this time he found himself piloting a brand-new mech.
He was just outside the military base and carefully checked the map. His previous mech blew up on the opposite side.
About ten mechs were pinned down by the distant Defense Cannons, unable to make any headway.
“These guys got smarter.” Yang Bo noticed the Defense Cannons were now equipped with energy shields likely meant for mechs.
Typically, Defense Cannons had special energy shields, but most bases didn’t equip them since these cannons might go unused for a century. It was up to the base commander’s discretion.
“If I keep reviving here, it means this place is important to the Military.” Yang Bo realized his previous methods wouldn’t work anymore.
“Too bad these guys aren’t real people, or there’d be countless ways to infiltrate.”
“Forget it. I’ll just go hunt for easy kills.” Yang Bo, faced with the dilemma, shrugged off the challenge and drifted to softer targets.
He headed toward the outskirts. Military leaders monitoring his action assumed he had another plan, but soon noticed he was moving farther away.
“What’s he trying to do?”
“Is he about to desert us?” The military leaders exchanged puzzled glances.
