Chapter 246: Got Rich
by xennovelYang Bo’s eyes lit up when he heard this. A sect like this is great! With a sect like this, he could unlock others’ locks freely, and he’d have an excuse—it’s just because he’s good at it.
Nobody would link it to his superpower. Even the most advanced smart locks today still have mechanical components since the latch itself is mechanical.
Yang Bo could unlock any lock and any system. With this sect as cover, he could openly do many things.
“Boss, should you raise my salary?” Yang Bo asked. It was a question based on his current experience in this body.
After all, Zhou Zheng and the others just said it—once he learned unlocking, the boss would raise his pay.
“Of course. But for now, you can’t teach the unlocking technique to anyone else, and we won’t ask for you to teach us. After joining a sect, there are always rules.” They ignored the ongoing negotiations between the Bounty Hunter Guild and the pirate captain, quietly whispering among themselves.
“If you join the sect, you’ll be entering high society.” Hank added.
Yang Bo looked at Hank, confused. Hank then explained, “Almost everyone in high circles comes from one sect or another.”
“Using Gene Injections is the fastest way to awaken superpowers, but it comes with limits. A superpower’s potential is capped after using Gene Injections.”
“Since Gene Injections themselves limit personal growth. Of course, it doesn’t matter much for us ordinary folks.”
“But for the elites, they have endless resources to push themselves further. The elites mostly cultivate ancient martial arts to awaken their powers.”
“They have time, resources, and inheritance. With a lineage, it might only take three years to awaken a superpower in the same martial art. Without it, it could take ten or even twenty years.”
“Yang Bo, you might not know, but most high-level superhumans across the galaxy come from upper society.”
Yang Bo understood after hearing this. People without enough resources shouldn’t waste time on ancient martial arts.
Children of the elites, on the other hand, have the time, resources, and guidance from elders to focus solely on cultivating ancient martial arts.
In this context, using a Gene Serum is a better choice for ordinary people because it quickly improves their living standards.
The elites never worry about making a living, so they have plenty of time for cultivation. Besides, not everyone has the talent for it.
In terms of time, using Gene Injections is more efficient for ordinary people.
Furthermore, the elites select partners with superior genes. Though it’s not 100% accurate, the chance is high.
This is why, even in the interstellar age, the slave system and constitutional monarchy still exist.
It’s unavoidable. Even among superhumans, most high-level beings belong to the privileged class. The elites control Gene Injections—an all-powerful weapon.
They control all the resources and high-tech weaponry. Even if a high-level superhuman arises among the commoners, what can they do? Unless you destroy every warship and kill every elite, it’s impossible.
“Yang Bo, the sect will definitely have girls. You’ll find someone you like.” Wu Bing grinned at him.
“With you on our team, our chances for completing missions are higher.”
“That’s right, that’s right!”
The person teaching Yang Bo how to unlock things was thrilled. His sect didn’t have many people since talented ones like Yang Bo were rare. However, the next steps would depend on what the sect decided after he reported back.
They even needed to check the backgrounds of his ancestors for 18 generations to guard against infiltrators.
At this point, the President of the Bounty Hunter Guild had reached a deal with the pirate leader.
After firing at the corridor with four warplanes, if the spaceship didn’t get repaired soon, it might explode.
The pirate leader removed his armor, and the rest followed, lifting their hands and surrendering to the former prisoners.
The pirate leader knew that the other side feared nothing and had a retreat option. They could escape aboard warplanes at any moment.
They had mechas, sure. But once they flew out, wouldn’t the warplanes pursue and hunt them down?
“Damn it, this is like meeting a ghost.” The pirate leader felt utterly miserable, cursing silently in despair.
The others were also dejected as the former crew members were restrained with collars while the Bounty Hunter Guild people took control of everything.
Now, the ship needed repairs. The Fat Boss, rescued just moments ago, still looked confused.
Once he understood what happened, his gaze toward the Guild President changed. This guy definitely had some high-level backers, especially within the Bounty Hunter Guild.
“Boss, did you come to March Planet because you knew something strange was going on?” Zhou Zheng and the other three gathered around the Fat Boss, asking in hushed voices.
“No way.” The Fat Boss certainly wouldn’t admit that he came for the subsidies. The government paid him for bringing someone to March Planet, and all that money stayed in his pocket.
“We were just lucky this time, running into the Bounty Hunter Guild.”
“Exactly.”
“Boss, Yang Bo learned how to unlock…!”
The Fat Boss looked shocked at Yang Bo. This kid had such talent? A genius in pharmaceuticals and now a genius in unlocking? And, he might soon join a sect.
The Fat Boss came from a family with a long legacy, but a sect was even bigger—ancient martial sects were on another level.
“Of course I’ll give you a raise!” The Fat Boss had to increase his pay. After all, using one Longevity Energy Stone was nothing. Yang Bo worked for his company, and they were partners anyway.
“I’ll refund some money to the Bounty Hunter Guild.” The Fat Boss, during the chaos, had extorted some money from the Guild.
The Bounty Hunter Guild people had paid him a sum to obtain legal identification. The Fat Boss had pretended to have employed them.
However, upon arriving at the Guild, they found the Guild was interrogating the pirates.
The Fat Boss wisely held back from getting involved—there was likely more going on than what was on the surface, and he didn’t want to get caught up in it.
“Should we sell them to the Pirates?”
“Why not just sell them as slaves?”
“These 100+ folks are all superhumans. Selling them as slaves would fetch a good price.”
“Damn, these scumbags really do work for 3-1 Exploration Company.”
“Yeah, I’ve always heard bad things about those exploration companies.”
“But what can you do? Legally speaking, these people are 3-1 employees, and they often operate outside the Alliance’s jurisdiction, so they’ve gotten used to lawlessness!”
The President of the Bounty Hunter Guild spotted the Fat Boss and pulled him aside for a chat.
It seemed they struck some sort of deal as both men walked away laughing.
“I sold the information about the Longevity Energy Stone deposit on this planet exclusively to the Bounty Hunter Guild. They plan to retaliate against 3-1 Exploration Company.”
“That bastard company even tried to screw us over. Next time we see their people, we should kill them.” The Fat Boss whispered angrily.
“3-1 is in real trouble now.”
“Hahaha! Spaceships can connect to the internet. Chaos is coming for 3-1 very soon.” The Fat Boss laughed deviously.
“Yang Bo, I traded that information for a set of armor for you. Once we confirm your superpower attributes, it’s yours.”
“Thank you, Boss.”
“If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t have learned this news or gotten rich!” The Fat Boss and Yang Bo were partners. Strengthening Yang Bo meant strengthening himself as well.
Zhou Zheng and the others nodded in agreement. Without Yang Bo, they wouldn’t have struck it rich.
And with more Longevity Energy Stones to split, plus Yang Bo’s unlocking skills, they might need his help again in the future. “As I promised, here’s the guide for unlocking different warships and warplanes or mechas. You’ve got two days to memorize it. Don’t let anyone else see.” The man teaching Yang Bo how to unlock things handed him a tablet.
For the next two days, Yang Bo and the other three secluded themselves in a cabin, studying how to unlock the various warplanes, spaceships, and warships.
The main thing was identifying the model of warplanes, spaceships, and mechas to know where to unlock them.
“This sect is amazing. They can unlock even the Alliance’s 15th generation mechas.”
“They can also unlock part of the Titan-class main battleships. Although unlocking a warship doesn’t have much value, it’s modular.”
“They even understand the mechas from other countries.” The four discussed as they studied.
They could unlock over a thousand devices, covering most of the civilian equipment, spaceships, and mechas, as well as some military mechas and warships from three different countries.
Yang Bo was amazed. This sect had some serious power!
Only elite military units had access to the 15th generation military mechas. How did this sect figure out the energy and control circuits inside and find the weaknesses?
“How many people does this sect have?” Yang Bo was increasingly curious.
He wondered how the Bounty Hunter Guild people would escape from that other spaceship.
Two days later, Yang Bo’s small team boarded a warplane and headed for the nearest space lane. The Bounty Hunter Guild folks took the rest and left on the spaceship.
Yang Bo sold all his Energy Stones to the Guild President. When the Guild President saw that Yang Bo had even more Longevity Energy Stones, the look in his eyes changed.
“Brothers, we hit the jackpot.” Once the warplane entered the space lane, the Fat Boss stopped the ship and began calculating their earnings.
“This time, our total earnings are 1.2 billion credits. Here’s the detailed ledger.” Yang Bo and the others quickly checked the numbers.
The income was split into three parts. The first four hundred million credits were from selling Energy Stones. Of that, Yang Bo took 50%, which was two hundred million. Zhou Zheng and the other three split forty million credits, and the Fat Boss took eighty million.
Another two hundred million came from looting the prisoners—it was basically reverse robbery. The captain first took 10%, leaving 180 million credits, which was then split among the five members.
Yang Bo earned another thirty-six million credits.
The key asset, however, was the spaceship itself. Since Yang Bo made the greatest contribution by unlocking the collars first, he got 50%, which amounted to three hundred million credits. The rest was split among the Fat Boss and the others.
“Brothers, are you happy or what?” The Fat Boss was grinning from ear to ear, especially since they also obtained a warplane.
“Yes, super happy!”
“Yang Bo is truly our lucky star!”
“Though this mission was extremely dangerous, it was nothing compared to what we gained.” Zhou Zheng and the other two were so excited they couldn’t stay calm, not even as superhumans.
Each of them earned at least 150 million credits. Do you know what that means? Zhou Zheng and the others had worked their entire lives without earning even a fraction of that.
As for Yang Bo’s earnings, they were too envious to even start being jealous. Forget the credits—the unlocking skills alone were incredible.
Now, Yang Bo could unlock any smart lock on this warplane after fiddling with it for a few seconds.
The others, who had painstakingly practiced their skills until their hands were swollen, still hadn’t made much progress.
While they had come to terms a bit with their realities, they still wouldn’t give up. They’d keep trying.
“Look at the news! 3-1 Company is in big trouble!” The Fat Boss told everyone to check the news.
On the Alliance’s news channel, the top story was the discovery of a Longevity Energy Stone mine complete with photos of the stones. The pictures, taken by the Fat Boss, showed the beautiful green stones embedded in the rocks, and there were several of them.
The news reported that 3-1 Exploration Company had secretly mined the area for over a hundred years. When they tried to cover it up after being discovered, they collapsed part of the mine. Photos of the cave-in were shown too. But the fatal blow was the release of the exact coordinates for the Energy Stone deposit.
There was also evidence that this information had leaked from Azure Blue Empire. Apparently, a client from Azure Blue Empire had ordered Longevity Energy Stones, but when 3-1 failed to deliver, their conflict spilled out into the public.
In response, the Alliance immediately started condemning 3-1 Exploration Company as traitors for selling Longevity Energy Stones to an enemy nation.
The Alliance launched an investigation into 3-1 Exploration Company, but most people cared more about the Longevity Energy Stones.
“3-1 is finished!”
“It looks like Azure Blue Empire broke the news first. The President of the Bounty Hunter Guild must have quite the background!” The Fat Boss noted after watching the news.
Yang Bo now understood—though the Alliance would know 3-1 Exploration Company was innocent, the public had already made up their minds. Even if they were innocent, they’d still be guilty. After all, everyone was just capitalists. If I can’t profit from your pain, then how can I benefit?
“There’s a passenger spaceship!” Just then, the alarm from the warplane rang, and the Fat Boss, overjoyed, announced the news.
Continuing to write for the second update.
