Chapter 247: Fat Boss’s Determination
by xennovelA week later, Yang Bo and his group returned to March Planet. As for that warplane, Fat Boss casually sold it. He sold it directly at the black market. Before the passenger spaceship arrived at March Planet, people from the black market came and flew the warplane away.
“I always thought this interstellar society was civilized. I didn’t expect it to be so wild.” Yang Bo felt this society was somewhat like the American West during its expansion period on Earth.
During the American West expansion, only the town centers were relatively safe. Outside the towns, it was practically lawless.
It was just like the Alliance. Except for the relatively safe areas within inhabited planets, the rest of the place could be full of either people or monsters, and no one knew for sure.
But that’s understandable. No equipment can monitor the entire universe. Even the most advanced warship scanners only had limited range.
It’s partly because the scanners themselves require energy consumption, and also due to the limitations of the device. A few million kilometers is already the maximum range.
Scanning too far is meaningless, because if the enemy fires a laser, your scan results wouldn’t reach you before the laser strike hits.
As for what happens in other areas, nobody really knows. When it comes to communication, there are only two options—either modify your spaceship’s communications equipment or send signals from near a navigation route.
Everywhere else, no one can hear you, no matter how loud you scream. Even if you send out a distress beacon, it could take a long time for help to arrive, if it ever does.
The Alliance fleet patrols these routes at most.
As for how the Bounty Hunter Guild handles the spaceship, its cargo, and the people on board, Fat Boss didn’t want to ask.
So, Fat Boss and the others disembarked early. Sometimes it’s better not to know or get involved.
Yang Bo also witnessed the darker side of society. Fat Boss sold the warplane to the black market on the way. You can imagine what happened to the people aboard the Bounty Hunter Guild’s spaceship.
However, Yang Bo didn’t have the slightest bit of pity. In this world, everyone reaps what they sow.
If the other side hadn’t gotten unlucky, it would’ve been them who were doomed. Yang Bo didn’t care much personally, but all the connections he’d worked so hard to build could’ve been ruined.
“Let’s take a half-month break now that we’re back. Everyone should rest up.” Back at the company, Fat Boss gave everyone some time off.
“Thank you, Boss!” Zhou Zheng and the others had just come into a large sum of money. Of course, they needed to go and enjoy themselves.
“Yang Bo, want to come have some fun with us?” Wu Bing winked at Yang Bo.
“You guys get out of here! Yang Bo’s going to join a sect soon.” Fat Boss scolded them with a touch of frustration.
Fat Boss already considered Yang Bo part of his own family.
After the others left, Fat Boss said, “Yang Bo, before you get married, stay away from trouble. It won’t be good for your reputation.”
“After getting married, as long as you’re strong enough, even if you have a couple more women, your wife won’t mind. Oh, and don’t buy those robots, some come with monitoring equipment.” Fat Boss added.
Yang Bo nodded, and then Fat Boss took him to the lab. “I won’t ask about how you unlocked your abilities, since it’s part of your secret of joining a sect. But your superpower, can you demonstrate it?”
Yang Bo raised a finger, slowly making it glow until it was as bright as a 20-watt lightbulb.
Fat Boss’s mouth fell open, and he quickly grabbed an energy detector.
“What kind of superpower is this? The detector isn’t picking up any readings!” Fat Boss thought something was off. When Yang Bo’s finger glowed, he couldn’t sense any energy fluctuations.
“Could it be that this energy frequency hasn’t been discovered yet?” Fat Boss thought of a possibility.
Energy detectors need known energy frequencies and data input into them to detect a match. With so many types of energy and radiation in the universe, it makes sense.
Fat Boss moved closer to Yang Bo’s finger, feeling a bit of warmth.
“Could this be the same property as sunlight?” Fat Boss scratched his head, finally forming a theory.
“Can you do anything else?” Fat Boss didn’t feel any energy waves from Yang Bo’s glowing hand—it felt no different than standing in sunlight.
“Not at the moment.”
“But I have an idea. Maybe I can use it for medicine.” Yang Bo explained what he had tested. He could generate light in his palm and act as a heating furnace.
Fat Boss watched as light poured from Yang Bo’s palm, but the energy detector remained completely unresponsive, as if it were broken.
When Fat Boss mobilized some of his own energy, the detector beeped to life.
“Yang Bo, you need to aim higher!”
“How can you only think about heating?”
“Why not imagine sending it out like a laser!” Fat Boss looked at Yang Bo’s glowing palm with disappointment.
Fat Boss was no longer jealous. Yang Bo wasn’t using his superpower for combat, and that felt like a crime against such an incredible ability.
“Remember, Yang Bo, the most valuable thing about superpowers is combat ability. Don’t believe that support abilities are just as useful. If you’re strong in battle, no one cares if you’re support.”
“When you face a real enemy, your support abilities don’t matter one bit. Don’t just think about using your light ability for medicine. If you can develop it to reach the level of a normal laser gun, you’ll already be more powerful than any pharmacist. Imagine becoming a one-man laser cannon.” Fat Boss was on the verge of picturing himself with the same light powers.
Yang Bo was stunned and asked, “But what about the Planetary Security System?”
“What’s a Planetary Security System? If you can get your light ability to that level, you could just shoot down the security system from the sky.”
“If your light ability reaches the level of a normal laser gun, you can apply to tthe Alliance for special operation rights. When you’re in danger, you can use your powers for self-defense or even to kill your enemies!”
“Superhumans with special abilities like yours have lots of privileges in this society.”
“It’s just like how certain talented individuals in the past had the right to carry guns for protection. They could shoot anyone when threatened.”
“The top of this society is filled with advanced gene-evolved people. These people make the laws, and even if you accidentally harm civilians, you can bail yourself out with enough money.” Fat Boss talked at length.
Yang Bo glanced at Fat Boss, nodded, and looked at his palm.
Fat Boss watched Yang Bo with curiosity. Then, he saw a ball of light slowly gathering in Yang Bo’s hand.
The light ball hovered a few inches above Yang Bo’s hand before completely detaching.
Fat Boss pinched himself hard. This had to be a dream.
Then, the next second, Fat Boss almost ran into a wall in shock. The light ball floated out of Yang Bo’s hand, moving in sync with his eye movements.
“Damn it, I should’ve known. Anyone who’s a genius in pharmacy has insanely powerful perception. You must have some mental evolution too!” Fat Boss finally realized this was all spirit control.
“I’m not sure. It just feels like I can control the light…” Yang Bo stammered, unable to fully explain.
Feel! Fat Boss gritted his teeth at that word. He’d heard it too many times. Those family geniuses always mastered things effortlessly and explained their methods with just that word—feel.
Even the high-priced pharmacy teacher his family hired said to “feel” his way through things. But after months of ‘feeling,’ Fat Boss felt like a failure in pharmacy.
“Throw it over there and see its power!” Fat Boss sighed deeply, thinking he better marry Yang Bo into the family somehow.
The light ball hit a corner of the lab, where there was a layer of ceramic shielding.
The ceramic was a special type with high hardness. When the light ball hit it, there was a cracking sound.
The ceramic wall shattered outward, leaving behind a dent about 7–8 centimeters deep and over ten centimeters wide.
Fat Boss opened his mouth wide again. This ceramic was as tough as warship armor, though only in hardness—it lacked the warship armor’s full attributes.
“Can you do that again?” Fat Boss asked.
Yang Bo threw two more light balls before shaking his head. “I’m feeling a bit tired now.”
Fat Boss decided to go back and check his family tree. There had to be more suitable women for Yang Bo—one wouldn’t be enough. Yang Bo’s superpower had just awakened, and it was already this terrifying. After more growth, he’d be like a walking cannon.
“You shouldn’t overuse your superpower, and let me tell you something. My family has this rule: if a guy stays a virgin, his cultivation speed is faster. Though personally, I don’t really believe it.”
“Actually, it’s not just my family. Lots of families have this rule. If you’re not officially married, you’re not allowed to have women outside, or the elders would beat you up.”
“I’ve never understood this strange rule. Now that I see you, I think maybe I just didn’t have enough talent.” Fat Boss hurried to get Yang Bo some water while talking.
“Overusing superpowers causes internal damage.”
“Based on the current level of your ability, I’d say you’re already at a D-grade. But you have to keep it secret. Publicly, declare your ability as strength-based. Don’t reveal your true power to anyone, and if someone finds out by accident, either take care of them yourself or come to me, and I’ll handle it!” Fat Boss warned.
Yang Bo nodded with a somewhat confused expression.
“I’ll get a large energy detector later to see if we can detect your light power. Also, start imagining your light as a Laser Gun. Think of yourself as a laser cannon, shooting at your surroundings.”
“When I go back home, I’ll stop by the library and see if there’s any record of how to use a power like yours.”
“But don’t get your hopes up too much. Most superhumans develop their abilities entirely on their own. Learning from others isn’t always helpful because everyone’s body is different. Even if the abilities are similar, the methods of use can vary.” Fat Boss almost started giving Yang Bo a back rub at this point.
Fat Boss realized that if they fought now, he might not win. Especially with that glowing orb, which could fly anywhere. If it collided with him…
One look at the dent on the lab’s ceramic wall told him the orb was as destructive as a laser gun..
Yang Bo nodded again before politely dismissing Fat Boss’s overenthusiastic attentiveness, leaving the company, and going home.
Back at home, he checked on the little creatures in his Underground Bunker.
Fortunately, there were no major problems. The creatures no longer resisted Yang Bo’s presence. Even the timid sand mice let him pet them.
After checking on all the animals, Yang Bo found his bill. While he was away, high winds blew some trash his way and the local authorities cleaned it up. He’d just pay the fee.
“I wouldn’t mind more missions like this.” Yang Bo didn’t find the last mission too dangerous. In fact, he made a fortune in the chaos and became the highest-ranking member of the Bounty Hunter Guild.
“As long as no one blows up the planet, I have nothing to worry about.” Not that Yang Bo was arrogant, but because he really was that strong now.
“Rest first, then go check out the Bounty Hunter Guild’s base tomorrow. See if they have anything good.”
“Also, still waiting on the sect’s news. Wonder what treasures might be there.”
“Judging by Fat Boss’s reaction, it looks like he wants to make me his brother-in-law. But what does his aunt look like anyway?” Yang Bo wasn’t expecting his future wife to be deeply connected to him emotionally. As long as she was pretty and had a good body, that’s all that mattered.
“Love hurts. Let’s keep it simple. We’ll just have fun together.”
In his previous life, Yang Bo had seen enough. True love was rare. People were practical. Love required mutual effort and standing on equal footing, but life’s challenges weren’t just between two people. It’s between two families.
“Maybe I’ll find a regular but beautiful woman. Of course, if I can’t handle one, I could always get a few more. Regular, yet pretty women to live with sounds better.”
“But, with a normal woman, when two or three decades pass, she might get old while I’m still young.” Yang Bo ate while contemplating his future. He had many ideas for his superpowers, and he’d slowly experiment with them.
After eating, Yang Bo looked up at the planet’s security system. His earlier arrogance vanished: “Personal strength is still limited. The only way is to strengthen myself bit by bit, like a spider weaving a web.”
