Chapter 254: Bandit
by xennovel“We’re a legitimate company.” The Fat Boss explained righteously before directly calling the police.
Yang Bo curiously looked outside the window, wondering how efficient the police would be in this world.
As soon as Yang Bo looked outside, he saw two drones. These drones were about the size of footballs, equipped with anti-gravity systems and laser systems. The whole drone was red, and it flashed as it flew, just like the police lights back on Earth.
The Fat Boss continued talking with the police, opening access to the dormitory.
The two drones whooshed away in an instant. The Fat Boss chuckled, “Yang Bo, remember this: if you ever face a danger you can’t handle, just call the police.”
“Even if you’re in the middle of doing something illegal, as long as you call the cops, your life won’t be in danger. And life in prison is ten times better than how you used to live. They’ll even provide you with a companion robot for free.” The Fat Boss’s words shocked Yang Bo.
“That’s right. This society is just this messed up!” The Fat Boss nodded, seeing Yang Bo’s surprised expression.
Suddenly, a loud explosion was heard from below, and the Fat Boss’s face changed drastically.
“Let’s go to the rooftop!” The Fat Boss urgently said.
“These guys dared to destroy police drones. They must be from a big organization. Hiding in the basement is asking for death. We should go to the roof; there are police drones and the planetary defense system up there.”
“If you ever call the police to deal with danger, don’t hide in places like basements. Always go to more open spaces.” As Yang Bo stood dumbfounded, the Fat Boss pulled out a battlesuit from a nearby cabinet and quickly put it on.
“This cabinet is connected to the floor below. I store my battlesuit in the underground lab. Anytime there’s trouble, the battlesuit can be sent to various parts of this building.” The Fat Boss explained as he suited up.
“Should we just open the window instead?” Yang Bo thought going to the rooftop was unnecessary.
“Absolutely don’t take the windows! The enemy could be waiting down there.”
“Many people try to escape through windows during a crisis, but if you don’t know what’s out there, you might fall straight into their hands.”
Through the window, Yang Bo saw at least a dozen drones flying outside. The largest was the size of a washbasin, flashing lights and blaring with a sharp alarm.
Vehicles nearby scrambled to get away, and in an instant, the area cleared out.
A Drone Fighter roared through the sky.
Boom! The monitoring room door took a massive impact, warping inward.
“Damn!” The Fat Boss cursed in shock, pulling Yang Bo into the inner room.
He quickly shut the door, waved his hand over a section of the wall, and a hidden elevator appeared.
“These bastards are too reckless!”
“It’s probably those punks from the Trinity Corporation!”
“Utter lawlessness! We’re definitely demanding compensation from the government this time!”
“Good thing I insured this place.”
“This elevator runs on an independent power and mechanical control system. It won’t be interfered with.” The Fat Boss was obviously scared too.
“We need to get you a set of armor soon.”
Suddenly, there was another massive explosion. Yang Bo felt the elevator shake before coming to a halt.
“These bastards must’ve been watching us for more than just today.”
“Yang Bo, climb the rope!” The Fat Boss’s battlesuit lit up as he swung his energy weapon, cutting a huge hole in the elevator’s ceiling. He pulled Yang Bo up through it.
Yang Bo grabbed the elevator cable and began climbing. Below, the elevator had been deformed; one side of the shaft had been punched in, leaving dents in the metal walls. Though not made of warship-grade armor, it was still steel.
The Fat Boss pressed himself tightly against one side of the wall, eyes focused on the elevator below.
The wall shook twice, and Yang Bo wondered if more police drones had been destroyed.
Outside, the situation had devolved into chaos. The police drones Yang Bo had seen just moments before were being shot down by laser cannons from a vehicle in the distance.
A Drone Fighter in the sky was hit by a laser from the nearby mountains and exploded mid-air.
Alarms blared across the entire city, and police laser cannons emerged from several buildings, firing toward the mountains.
The planetary defense system above searched continuously. A drone flew swiftly toward the mountains, only to stop at the entrance to a cave.
Then the city’s energy supply system also sent out an alarm. Clearly, someone had tampered with the city’s power grid.
Yang Bo was quick, almost reaching the top when the metal wall of the elevator shaft caved further, followed by a flash of light as the wall was sliced open.
“Target spotted!” The enemy shouted as they spotted Yang Bo dangling from the cable.
Yang Bo saw the enemy clearly. They wore a peculiar battlesuit that blended into the surroundings, constantly changing colors.
Yang Bo quickly let go of the cable, sliding down as the enemy chased closer.
“Bastards!” The Fat Boss roared, his energy weapon flashing as he shot up like a cannonball from below.
The enemy, just stepping in, quickly retreated upon seeing the Fat Boss’s attack.
Seeing the enemy withdraw, the Fat Boss waved his hand at the wall, revealing a hidden door. Grabbing Yang Bo, they swiftly exited through it.
“They’re two floors below us.” The enemy above, preparing to intercept the Fat Boss, realized something was off. He looked down and saw the hidden exit.
“You’ve got 40 seconds.” A cold voice came through the comm channel.
“Understood.” Several voices replied simultaneously.
The Fat Boss angrily muttered, “Who in the hell are these bastards, daring to be so bold?!”
Looking out the window, he could see the wreckage of many drones littering the ground, with even more police drones still arriving, along with mechas being deployed.
Yang Bo’s mind raced in curiosity. How were these people pulling this off? If he could learn their techniques, he’d be able to pull something similar in other cities.
Suddenly, the Fat Boss pulled Yang Bo aside as a large hole appeared in the floor, followed by a massive explosion.
“Bombs?!” Yang Bo gasped. It was clearly a bomb; there was no other way to break through the floors of this building so easily.
The Fat Boss had been running illegal businesses and didn’t mind investing heavily when it came to stuff like this.
The Fat Boss waved his hand at the wall, and it opened. Clearly, the wall had concealed some control systems, and the Fat Boss definitely had a master control key.
The Fat Boss led Yang Bo to the adjacent room, then waved his hand over the wall again.
The wall opened, revealing a staircase. The Fat Boss dashed up the stairs in a flash.
More explosions rang out behind them, and the intense energy fluctuations made Yang Bo feel the danger at his back.
“Get to the rooftop, now!” The Fat Boss threw Yang Bo forward, his battlesuit lighting up as he rushed toward a shadow behind them.
Yang Bo was confused. Who did he piss off? Or was it the Fat Boss who made enemies?
What Yang Bo didn’t know was that the Grey Ash Organization had suffered a devastating blow and had only narrowed down the cause to Green Demon Planet. But the military had sealed off that place, preventing any entry and hampering any chance of obtaining information.
The Grey Ash Organization had mobilized their elite forces to figure out what caused such heavy losses to their organization.
The forces weren’t originally meant for Yang Bo, but Ashes received intel that the former captain of the Green Demon Planet Fleet was hiding in this small city.
Even better, the Grey Ash Organization was still pretending to target Yang Bo, but their real target was the captain.
Yang Bo had barely reached the top of the stairs when he was held at gunpoint by a laser gun..
“Kid, move and I’ll kill you.” The enemy sneered at Yang Bo.
“Target number two located,” the enemy added.
Yang Bo quickly raised his hands. They already knew Yang Bo was just a resident, even having undergone gene modification, yet he was considered trash.
They picked up a restraint collar, about to snap it onto Yang Bo’s neck.
The next second, the enemy felt a sudden heat in his brain, followed by darkness.
Combat +8!
“An idiot, even for a C-rank superhuman.” Yang Bo muttered to himself, hearing the intense battle raging below.
He stripped the enemy’s battlesuit, noticing that the guy’s eyes bulged out.
“Used too much energy.” Yang Bo had discovered microwave manipulation while using his Optical Ability to create a shield.
He raised his hand earlier, releasing two microwaves straight from his palms, which penetrated the enemy’s armor and fried his brain.
The fool hadn’t charged his energy suit, clearly underestimating Yang Bo, thinking he was just a resident, about to be slapped with a restraint collar.
“They even prepped a bag to carry me.” Yang Bo noticed the enemy had a bag ready to stuff him into.
“Let’s see who you bastards are.” Yang Bo took a biological sample from the enemy and transformed into him, then grabbed the enemy’s communicator.
“Objective One’s in the bag. What about Objective Two?”
“Objective Two secure,” Yang Bo answered.
“Proceed with the retreat.” The voice came from the communicator.
Yang Bo quickly donned the enemy’s visor and battlesuit, stuffing the corpse into the bag.
The visor displayed the retreat route, and Yang Bo opened the window, leaping out with the bag.
The planetary defense system above bypassed him, seemingly unaffected. Yang Bo’s sensors picked up heavy interference in the area.
“This much interference – couldn’t it be from an Extremist Organization?” Yang Bo thought as he followed the retreat route, pondering how to dispose of the corpse he carried.
Meanwhile, the Fat Boss kept fighting, though it was clear that the enemy was strong. Several times, the Fat Boss had been knocked back, yet he got up and charged again.
When the enemy pulled out a bomb, the Fat Boss quickly retreated into the building, just as a massive explosion echoed outside.
“They were just trying to stall me!” The Fat Boss finally realized the enemy had been stringing him along.
By the time the Fat Boss rushed out, the enemy had already leapt out the window, vanishing in a flash.
“Who the hell are these people? They’re even using a high-power jammer?” The Fat Boss shrank back, not daring to chase.
To his shock, a missile suddenly came down from the sky, hitting a nearby car.
“They’re even using anti-radiation missiles!?” The Fat Boss was practically drop-jawed, rushing upstairs.
But Yang Bo was nowhere to be found. The Fat Boss stood on the rooftop, watching as the guard cannons swiveled back into position. Clearly, they’d been jammed moments before.
Crowds of people scattered below, and a fighter plane burned on the street in the distance.
“Is this a war?” The Fat Boss muttered in a daze, feeling like he was in a warzone.
Yang Bo followed the retreat route, discovering a burning Drone Fighter. He immediately tossed the corpse bag onto the fiery wreck.
This kind of jet ran on the same power source as mechas. Once its energy cell caught fire, the explosion would be massive.
The body promptly began to burn, while the jet crackled with high-voltage arcs. The corpse was quickly burned to a crisp, then consumed by the flames.
Yang Bo reached the next stop on the retreat route, finding it led to a manhole cover, already opened.
Yang Bo jumped down, and the lid automatically shut behind him. The manhole, too, was under intelligent control.
“Looks like only the Grey Ash Organization has this kind of power.” Yang Bo noted the retreat route on his visor, realizing there were still four kilometers to go through the sewers.
Yang Bo shifted back to his original form, grabbed a nearby object, and banged it against a nearby pipe.
The sound reverberated through the sewers.
“Now it’s time for Third Master to make his move.” Ten seconds later, the vibrations revealed a gathering of people, prompting Yang Bo to smirk.
The battlesuit he wore was still the enemy’s, but now the person wearing it was a pirate leader.
“These guys are stronger than expected.”
“If I don’t kill them, I’ll never be at peace.” In truth, Yang Bo had plenty of chances to escape back at the dorm, but he let himself get captured, fully aware of the enemy’s actions.
When dealing with ruthless people like this, running away isn’t enough. The best way to handle them is to be even more ruthless.
“They delivered themselves for me to grind skills on. How could I refuse? Plus, I’ll learn from these veterans. Their battlesuits are clearly custom-made. I need to study them carefully.” Yang Bo muttered as he quickly rushed toward the gathering point.
