Chapter Index

Yang Bo thought it was a pity that he could only use Sound Wave for remote control now.

Optical Ability could work too, able to modify some of the Bionic Puppet’s programs, but it’d be detected. Only the passive Sound Wave skill could be used on the Bionic Puppet.

However, this was already something. Due to the Bionic Puppet’s size and the need to integrate various systems, the visual system and radar system couldn’t be made better or bigger.

Better and bigger radars would mean larger energy consumption and an increase in size.

Moreover, this world heavily interfered with radar. It seemed like there was some strange radiation energy.

So, what appeared on the small map wasn’t always accurate. For example, Yang Bo now saw a pool with zombies in it, but the map didn’t show them earlier.

Upon seeing Yang Bo’s controlled Bionic Puppet, the zombies began to roar and howl.

“How did these zombies detect my Bionic Puppet?” Yang Bo still couldn’t figure out how the zombies saw it.

Logically, with their eyes in such a condition, they shouldn’t be able to see. Yet, they somehow did.

After a few precise shots, the zombies were lying in the polluted pool.

Yang Bo pressed on. This farm was once full of tall grass and bushes, but after being trampled by thousands of zombie sheep, it was now a wasteland.

Some rocks and concrete buildings still remained mostly intact, but anything metal, like roof sheets, was gone.

A small zombie sheep had its front leg caught in a pit. It wouldn’t have been a problem, but as soon as Yang Bo showed his face, the ferocious little creature began to howl.

One precise shot. This farm had a stepped layout. Each level was 30 meters wide and 100 meters long. There were seven levels, with some appearing to be under construction.

Yang Bo controlled the Bionic Puppet to lower its footsteps as much as possible. However, there didn’t seem to be anything unusual, aside from some zombie sheep that couldn’t keep up with the main herd due to various reasons.

There weren’t many of them, but Yang Bo didn’t let his guard down.

By the time Yang Bo reached the fourth level of the search, the Sonic Detection indicated what seemed like a zombie. In fact, Yang Bo had already sensed its presence. However, he was searching slowly, both to look for high-value bounty items and to see if there were any high-level zombies. What kind of abilities could a high-level zombie give him? Right at this moment, Yang Bo heard gunfire. It seemed to come from the area where he had just killed the zombie sheep.

The sound was faint, very faint. At first, Yang Bo thought it was nothing, but then an explosion quickly followed.

This time, the sound was quite loud. Yet, the suspected zombie didn’t move.

“What’s going on?” Yang Bo muttered to himself, finding it odd that there was an explosion.

Yang Bo decided to check whether his Sonic Detection was correct.

In the dilapidated concrete building was a pitch-black ram, reminiscent of a demon from legend. Its teeth were entirely exposed, and it paced within a pen surrounded by two-meter-high concrete walls.

“So that’s it?” Yang Bo finally understood why the creature hadn’t charged out.

The ram’s head was trapped in a tire. Yang Bo knew this was how breeder rams were handled to prevent them from headbutting people or each other, a behavior that could seriously injure or kill.

The tire had clearly been placed on its horns when it was smaller, and now, the half-tire was obstructing the ram’s vision.

Splat!!! Just as Yang Bo took one step forward, the giant zombie ram raised its head and spotted Yang Bo, standing on its hind legs and spitting out a stream of green liquid.

Yang Bo dodged as soon as the ram stood.

Hiss! The green liquid hit the concrete building, instantly releasing smoke.

“Congratulations, player, you’ve discovered a hidden quest.” The Game Officials shamelessly displayed a line of text on the screen.

“Looks like the Officials are watching the Bionic Puppet too. There’s clearly some research value here.”

After dodging, the zombie ram began to howl.

As it howled, more howls came from the rear of the farm.

Suddenly, zombies sheep rushed out from the tall grass at the back of the farm.

Then Yang Bo heard voices and gunfire.

Yang Bo climbed a broken concrete wall, stealthily observing three people in the distance. One held a shield and a cold weapon shaped like a fork, defending at the front. Behind them, one held a laser gun, and the other had a standard firearm.

Yang Bo snapped a photo of them. These three clearly weren’t friendly.

The trio shot the zombie sheep rushing from the rear, but strangely, instead of attacking them, the sheep howled and charged at Yang Bo’s position.

Yang Bo felt like he was in for something good.

Without hesitation, he moved toward the ram’s pen. When the ram heard movement, it stood on its hind legs but was shot by Yang Bo, breaking one of its back legs.

It fell but kept trying to stand. Yang Bo shot another leg, leaving the creature with just its front legs. Even so, it crawled toward him at a frightening speed.

Boom! The old concrete wall gave way, leaving a large hole.

Thud thud! Yang Bo fired twice at its neck, ensuring the creature was completely dead.

Just then, Yang Bo received an alert. A bomb was falling from the sky. He fired at it right away.

“Are you nuts?!” Yang Bo knew exactly who threw it—the three people.

“Haha, we’re nuts. Do you have any medicine, though?”

“Why not share what’s inside?” the three shouted loudly from outside.

Yang Bo was speechless. Where did these three come from? Were they called over by the previous two?

As the zombie sheep rushed toward him, Yang Bo kept firing. The zombie ram with the broken neck let out a piercing screech.

“What treasures?” Yang Bo wasn’t too upset. He was used to being oppressed by wealthy players in his previous gaming life.

The weak didn’t deserve anything because others had spent millions, and the Game Officials didn’t side with poor players.

Of course, if he could scam them, he’d definitely try.

“These zombie sheep moving so oddly… there must be a higher-level one. Somebody reportedly earned more than 100,000 game currency from one.” someone outside yelled.

“And what if I don’t give it up?”

“Then sorry, we’ve got plenty of bombs.”

    “Where are the other two?”

“Those two idiots? They rushed back for treatment. After all, their characters got contaminated by the zombie explosions. If they don’t hurry to recover at the respawn point, their characters will die, and Revival Tokens aren’t cheap.”

Hearing this, Yang Bo chuckled to himself. Unexpectedly, there was such a method.

“Aren’t you afraid of the Game Officials?” Yang Bo shouted loudly, but it was typed out and spoken through the Bionic Puppet’s voice modulator. Shouting while playing wasn’t something he enjoyed.

“Officials? Does this crappy game even have any?”

“Haha! This is way more fun than that Mecha Game. Hey, give up the quest item, or we’ll just drop bombs!” The three from outside sounded extremely arrogant.

Yang Bo took another picture of the ram’s head and then shot it squarely in the head.

    Mind Control +4!

A notification flowed through Yang Bo’s mind. “So that’s how it is.” He realized this ram was the leader of the herd. As in any pack of beasts, there was always a leader.

“Hey boys, come on in to check out the quest item you’ve been longing for!” Yang Bo laughed heartily. The rewards from this run were huge.

It was a known fact that many wild beasts traveled in packs. Mind Control clearly boosted Mind Control, and in his excitement, Yang Bo couldn’t help some trash talk.

Unfortunately, the others only heard the annoying biu-biu sound. Whether this was intentional by the Officials or not, nobody knew. All players found the sound extremely grating because it signified that someone was insulting you.

The three outside hurled insults in return before throwing another bomb.

By that time, Yang Bo had already dashed off in another direction. In the game, players couldn’t directly aim weapons at each other, so bombs were the only option.

The three players saw Yang Bo’s shadow flicker behind a broken concrete wall and hurriedly opened fire.

They charged inside, while Yang Bo lobbed a bomb toward the ram’s location from afar.

Soon, the trio’s weapons let out a stream of beeping sounds.

Yang Bo quickly fled the farm, as the trio clearly had more bombs than him.

Outside the farm, Yang Bo hurried to post on the forum, uploading a photo of the three players and a shot of the intact ram’s head. He also included the coordinates, claiming he had killed thousands of zombie sheep before being robbed.

Returning to the game, Yang Bo checked the place where he had killed most of the zombie sheep. As expected, the area had been thoroughly bombed.

Then, as he checked the forum, his post already had over a hundred views, but no comments.

“Heh.” Yang Bo knew that most players were here for the money. The game’s experience alone wasn’t particularly enjoyable.

Yang Bo waited in a nearby mountain, able to see the three players still searching the farm.

After a few minutes, Yang Bo saw two other players appear on the path to the valley. They first stumbled upon the site of over two thousand dead zombies, then saw the rope hanging in midair and instantly believed it.

The two didn’t even enter; instead, they retreated.

Yang Bo then opened the forum and saw that someone had posted a paid message. The fee was 10 game currency. After paying, Yang Bo saw a photo of the scene with over two thousand dead zombie sheep.

The post quickly gained over five hundred views and kept rising.

“Haha!” Yang Bo felt incredibly satisfied and kept an eye on the unfolding chaos.

He could already predict that someone would eventually post about what happened next.

“Better bring more bombs next time I play.”

“Why doesn’t this crappy game have a PK system? Those three small fry could easily be dealt with on my own.” Yang Bo was annoyed, as remote control prevented direct killing. He didn’t want to waste time anyway, having already gained plenty.

After climbing over this hill, Yang Bo found a safe spot in the neighboring mountain valley to check the forum.

“Damn it! We didn’t get the quest item.” The trio had posted a picture under Yang Bo’s thread, showing a giant ram’s head with its brain blasted out.

“Heh.” A reply appeared below with nothing but a smug “Heh.”

Nobody believed anyone could kill thousands of zombie sheep and then blow up the ram’s head for no reason.

So, the only conclusion was that the trio had taken the quest item and deliberately destroyed the ram’s head.

Although this game prohibited stealing quest items, if you didn’t hand over any game currency, people would find ways to kill you.

    Game Officials? Do they exist?

Yang Bo’s post had already gathered thousands of views, but curiously, only one reply stood, which was odd.

“Better head back.” Yang Bo decided to return to the respawn point first. Clearing other farms wouldn’t be doable on his own, given his limited ammo supply.

“Time to recruit a couple of lackeys to fetch bullets.” Yang Bo mused to himself.

Yang Bo made it back to the respawn point and continued checking the forum. Someone had already posted a photo of the ram’s head, showing the tire gone and its horns missing.

“Heh.” Seeing this, Yang Bo knew those three were in trouble and felt immensely satisfied.

The three players didn’t know what Yang Bo looked like, nor what equipment he had, since he’d been hiding inside the abandoned pen.

But the three of them had been photographed by Yang Bo.

“Those bastards are always taking people’s stuff. I’ve been robbed by them too.”

    “Damn, where are they now?”

The forum finally saw some activity. Several people who’d been robbed by the trio began posting.

“Holy crap! Look at the size of this massacre. That must’ve been done by some pro!”

“At least two to three thousand dead, most of them with their brains extracted, but it’s still a big loss. One bullet per sheep.”

“He did it for the quest item.”

“Guys, I got a ram’s horn! Check this out.” A picture of the quest item was posted. It was a ram’s horn, marked with a one-star quality rating and valued at 50,000 game currency.

“Is the ram’s horn that valuable? Then how much is the brain worth? At least 100,000, right?”

“Heh, lucky guy. He took it with just five bombs. One of their backpacks got blown up by shrapnel, and a horn fell out.”

“Lucky indeed. That’s 50,000 game currency!”

“Guys, the brain must be worth at least 200,000. Think about it. Ram horns cost a few coins, but their brains are worth double.”

Yang Bo saw the quick surge of forum posts and felt bad for the trio. The ram’s brain had already been extracted and stored in his Bionic Puppet, making it unlootable.

But the giant ram’s horn, as large as a basin… placed in the Bionic Puppet’s backpack, had become a lootable quest item.

Yang Bo even noticed people live-streaming the chase, as groups of three to five players kept advancing, tossing bombs frequently.

They couldn’t throw bombs directly but could hurl them nearby, turning the forest around the farm into the scene of a jungle pursuit.

“Boss?” At this moment, someone called out in the game.

Yang Bo returned his attention to the game and saw two players appear. Suspicious, he asked, “Is it you two?”

“Boss, it’s us! You really got the short end of the stick this time. We managed to take the ram’s horn and a few more things worth around 60,000 game currency. How about we give you half?” One of them quickly nodded and offered.
