Chapter Index

“Captain, these two are also our friends.” The next day, as soon as Yang Bo entered the game, Xiao Huang was already waiting. Seeing Yang Bo log in, he quickly sent a message.

Yang Bo looked at the two others, who surprisingly had female avatars. Then Yang Bo used his captain permissions to invite the two to join the squad.

After seeing their nicknames, Yang Bo was speechless. Their names were ‘Cat Rubbing Missy’ and ‘Dog Rubbing Little Miss’, though weird nicknames were common in the game.

Sometimes it’s not that you don’t want a normal nickname—it’s because all the good ones are already taken.

“Hello, Captain.” The two spoke, and sure enough, they had female voices.

“Two girl gamers!” In-game, no one cares about gender—there are tons of players with mixed identities. Plus, in this society, you’d have to check carefully to know if someone is truly male or female. Your eyes can deceive you.

Moreover, hearing women’s voices paired with these nicknames would definitely make your skin crawl.

“Did they tell you everything? Do you know what to do?” Yang Bo asked directly.

“We know.” The two newcomers answered in unison.

Xiao Huang and Xiao Hong couldn’t help it. They asked several people to play, but only these two were interested, and after being grounded, there was no worry about them quitting.

Last time, Xiao Hong and Xiao Huang went out with a group of rowdy friends and ran into a protest, which led to a conflict.

Unexpectedly, the protestors belonged to a major family. As a result, everyone on their side was grounded. To be precise, they were put under house arrest. All accounts were frozen, and cars were prohibited.

Now, they could only drink at home. Some drank until they lost themselves, while others found distractions.

Xiao Hong and Xiao Huang decided to make some money in the game, so they’d be better prepared for future incidents.

Because income from the game couldn’t be frozen, they could simply open a new account and withdraw later.

Plus, the injuries they caused last time were severe. The aftermath hadn’t been resolved yet, and it was possible that to quell public anger, they might be thrown into prison.

The two they invited had been involved too and hadn’t held back. Back then, everyone had been pretty drunk.

The newcomers only joined after hearing that Yang Bo was a skilled captain and that they could earn some pocket money.

The downside of being a useless descendant of a rich family is that, while you can spend freely within a set limit, when trouble comes, everything is frozen, leaving you completely stuck.

Yang Bo wasn’t interested in the new members, nor did he think much of Xiao Huang or Xiao Hong. It was all just a business relationship.

After all, the game’s data is confidential, and the military wouldn’t let anyone know the game is remotely controlled.

Today, looking at the growing team, Yang Bo saw that they had over 1,500 bullets. If they played it right, they could clear out a whole farm in one go.

Yang Bo didn’t plan to go to any slaughterhouses today. Instead, he headed straight for a rabbit farm.

The team was dead silent. Yang Bo guessed the other four were chatting privately, but he didn’t care. He just treated them like tools.

“Are you two scammers? Can you really make at least 10,000 credits a day?” As expected, they were talking privately, and they were using voice chat. ‘Cat Rubbing Missy’ spoke in a woman’s voice.

“Didn’t I transfer you 20,000? Why don’t you believe me?” Xiao Huang was speechless.

“20,000 isn’t even enough for my afternoon tea!” ‘Cat Rubbing Missy’ retorted with irritation.

“That was in the past. You’re grounded now. How much can you really pull?”

“I used to tip more than 20,000.” Xiao Hong chimed in, also annoyed.

‘Dog Rubbing Little Miss’ then added, “We still have 20 days left. I’m so bored at home I can’t even shop online.”

    “Didn’t I also transfer you 20,000 yesterday?”

    “Is 20,000 even money?”

“Anyway, when we split the earnings, we’ll deduct what we already transferred to you. Nobody has any money right now, so let’s be frugal.”

“It’s a shame we can’t attend the auction. I heard this time they’re selling retro pieces from the Home Planet.” ‘Cat Rubbing Missy’ was grumbling.

“I want to get married soon! Then I won’t be under my family’s control anymore!”

“Even if you marry, you’ll still be under someone’s control. If they want to freeze your account, they’ll freeze it.”

“No wonder people keep selling second-hand luxury goods. They probably ran out of money too.”

“How long do we have to walk?”

“Since there’s nothing else to do, you two better remember: you said we could earn 10,000 a day. If we don’t, you two owe us a big meal.” ‘Dog Rubbing Little Miss’ spoke up again.

Xiao Huang and Xiao Hong agreed immediately, “As long as we’re not grounded, what’s a meal?”

“Take us to Azure Blue Empire for a trip. I hear the fighting arena is really popular, and you can place bets.” ‘Cat Rubbing Missy’ threw out another demand.

“Let’s go!” Xiao Hong and Xiao Huang gritted their teeth and agreed.

It took an hour and a half to reach the farm. This was a rabbit farm, and the map marked it as a meat rabbit farm.

What gave Yang Bo a headache was that all farms seemed to be far from the city.

On top of that, the roads were terrible. The original paved road was full of potholes, some of which had even sprouted towering trees.

Without the occasional remnant of the old road, you’d think you were in the wilderness.

They had to hack their way through, clearing the path enough so that if zombies attacked, they could react quickly.

Yang Bo realized that the bionics had a much higher top speed, but the game was limiting it.

Where no players had passed before, Yang Bo cleared obstacles ahead and made noise to detect nearby zombies.

The rabbit farm wasn’t far from the roadside. Now, all they could see was a lush bamboo forest with no buildings in sight.

“Step back.” As they advanced, Yang Bo told the others to retreat.

Xiao Huang and the others stepped back, and Yang Bo began working. These zombies had a major weakness: they moved in straight lines, always in sync.

For example, when the rabbit zombies chase people, they hop towards them.

Yang Bo easily shot one cute little zombie after another, predicting their jumping height and firing just as they leaped.

“Look at that, the captain shoots the rabbits right in the neck.”

“Actually, in this setting, the head is the easiest target.”

Xiao Huang and Xiao Hong collected the quest items—mostly rabbit fur. The rabbit brain was rarer, depending on luck. Sometimes you got more, sometimes less.

“Ugh, that looks gross.” The two newcomers were disgusted watching Xiao Huang and Xiao Hong harvest the fur from the rabbit corpses.

Upon closer examination, the zombie rabbits did look pretty disgusting.

“Then you two can go buy bullets.” Xiao Huang and Xiao Hong weren’t surprised. The hyper-realism of this game had been criticized by players on the forums. Some even had nightmares and demanded compensation for emotional distress.

Yang Bo was having a blast. The rabbits kept coming, and all he had to do was aim and shoot.

“This is awesome!” In less than half an hour, they cleared the farm. Yang Bo felt great.

They used over 1,400 bullets and cleared more than 1,200 zombie rabbits. Unfortunately, there wasn’t a boss rabbit that boosted Mind Control.

His three teammates were worn out. One even went back to buy more bullets.

“Captain, should we do another run?” Xiao Huang and Xiao Hong were excited. In such a short time, they had earned over 10,000.

Back when their accounts weren’t frozen, and they weren’t grounded, 10,000 credits meant nothing. They used to tip that amount casually.

But now they had no choice. All accounts were frozen, and they were grounded. As the saying goes, ‘A penny can topple a hero.’

It’s like when a smoker gets desperate at night—they might dig through trash cans. If all else fails, any leaf will do.

“No, I’m done. I need to re-plan.” Yang Bo thought grinding skills was fast, but he needed to find better targets.

He felt like he was losing money again. 1,500 bullets cost 75,000 game currency, plus wear and tear on the guns. He was down about 80,000-90,000.

The Listening skill was almost at the master level.

Yang Bo joined the collecting effort. The rabbit fur was worth quite a bit.

Gathering didn’t require player control. You just aimed at the target and pressed a button.

There was a progress bar. Once it filled, the task was done. Then you could move on to the next target.

It took over an hour to get back to the respawn point. Yang Bo logged off. With two new members, Yang Bo decided to venture farther next time and check what skills other zombies might offer.

“It’s tough finding a useful skill.” Yang Bo began browsing the forums.

“Looks like things aren’t going well.” On the forum, Yang Bo sensed something was off.

The forum atmosphere was tense. People were arguing and showing off how they destroyed each other.

Yang Bo felt uneasy because this game was remotely controlled, and its main purpose was to gather materials.

Now, players were using bombs to blow each other up. If you tried to approach any building, someone would trigger a bomb and attract a horde of zombies.

Many innocent bystanders got dragged into it. Players didn’t dare enter cities anymore. As soon as you walked in, a zombie mob would chase you out.

“I wonder what measures the game officials will take.” Yang Bo kept browsing, silently pondering.

He was exhausted. There was less content today. Once things calm down, there will be more updates. Lately, things haven’t been going well. What a mess.
