Chapter 30: Unexpected Harvest
by xennovel“No way?” Yang Bo strolled around a large area, but the biggest animals here were just cows. There were no tigers or leopards like he imagined.
Taking a closer look at the cows, they were built like elephants. Looking at their horns, Yang Bo understood something. These horns were nearly a meter long, a meter wide, and shaped like tridents.
And they were herding animals. They were basically bulldozers, but with spikes—and a whole group of them at that.
“Sigh.” Yang Bo sighed as he saw there were no large animals. He dragged the dead cows’ bodies into an underground cave.
“If I had any status, I could’ve just bought these cows’ cells to cultivate.” Yang Bo kept working while thinking to himself.
At that moment, Yang Bo had the urge to explore dangerous areas, but he quickly rationalized against it. His mecha was the worst one. If it got damaged, he might go bankrupt.
“No rush, no rush.” Yang Bo thought about how little time he’d been here and how far he’d already come. He decided to stay rational.
He threw the cows’ bodies into a pre-checked area and waited.
For wild animals, the scent of food is hard to resist. The blood of eleven cows quickly spread through the underground space, attracting countless reptiles towards the feast.
There were all kinds of creatures. Yang Bo just waited quietly from a small platform above the passage, which was quite tall.
The place was very quiet, so Yang Bo had even turned off his radar. According to official reports, some mutated animals could detect radar signals.
Now that he’d set the bait, Yang Bo didn’t care what kind of ‘fish’ would come. As long as something was caught, it could come into his trap.
Yang Bo then activated his audio receiver. In this quiet underground space, the mecha’s sound receivers could pick up the noises of insects fighting among themselves.
“This baiting method is a bit expensive, though,” Yang Bo muttered, watching time pass by. Every hour cost a few hundred credits.
After five hours, Yang Bo could hear the sound of food being torn apart below. Especially the sound of cowhide being ripped—it was loud. He could also hear chewing and other noises.
He took out two shockwave bombs, twisted them, and threw them to both sides of the passage below.
Boom! Even with the mecha, the loud noise made Yang Bo uncomfortable. The whole space shook for a moment. Of course, by then, he’d already turned the radar back on.
“Camouflage +1! Camouflage +1!”
“Dynamic Vision +1!” The flood of notifications made Yang Bo grin from ear to ear.
Looking at the lizards’ bodies on the ground, they had been deformed by the force of the shockwave. The narrow passage made the shockwave even more powerful.
The 100-meter-long passage was filled with the remains of many lizards—no insects, though, because the lizards had eaten them.
“Too bad I can’t come down here. There are so many ways I could’ve handled this, like poisoning them.” Yang Bo sighed, knowing he could only use about ten percent of his abilities. He imagined setting off toxic chemicals deep underground, turning the underground world into a chimney of poisonous gas that could kill who knows how many creatures.
Yang Bo chuckled and placed a hydrogen bomb under one of the cow carcasses, setting it for five hours before heading back to the base.
“Worried about bombing my own guys? No way. The mecha’s proximity sensors will alert me if there’s danger. There’s friend-or-foe identification too.”
Back at the base, seeing the maintenance cost, Yang Bo felt a twinge of pain, despite having plenty of game currency. This was still the lowest-grade mecha. The higher the grade, the more expensive the maintenance.
“I’ll check out the trading center next time.” Yang Bo was already thinking about going to the trading center next time.
After logging out of the game, Yang Bo walked to the floor-to-ceiling windows. The weather outside was clear and bright. In the blue sky, Skyport shone like a dazzling diamond ring, mesmerizing in its beauty.
He muttered the word ‘skills’ in his heart.
Swimming: Grandmaster (Speed in liquids +300%, Permanent underwater breathing ability, Underwater attack power +120%)
Flight: Master (1402/10,000) Camouflage: Master (5210/10,000) Sonic Control: Grandmaster (14,350/100,000)
Dynamic Vision: Master (4832/10,000)
Charge: Intermediate (11/100)
Thermal Imaging Vision: Advanced (301/1,000)
Electric Power Control: Advanced (112/1,000) Light Energy Control: Beginner (4/10)
Mecha Piloting: Intermediate (56/100)
Invisibility: Intermediate (16/100)
Slap: Advanced (134/1,000) In the bathroom, Yang Bo looked at himself in the mirror. His facial muscles started shifting, and even his bones changed slightly. A few minutes later, a familiar yet unfamiliar face appeared in the reflection.
Yang Bo touched his face. This was his face from his past life.
“Bone structure can be fine-tuned. It looks like with enough skill, Camouflage can completely turn me into a stranger.” Yang Bo tested the skill, disguising himself as different people, even a woman.
Seeing the woman’s face in the mirror, Yang Bo recognized her as a famous actress he liked in his previous life. He touched his face and immediately felt nauseous.
“Gross.” Yang Bo even wondered if by the end, this skill could fully turn him into a woman.
He quickly went to bed. At least he no longer consumed his own energy, because he had way too much of it now.
While sleeping, he had a nightmare where he turned into a woman and went into a bathhouse with other women…
He thought to himself upon waking: I’m not that kind of pervert. Why would I dream of something so ridiculous? He’d only slept for four hours.
Suddenly, a stream of notifications flowed through his mind.
“Dynamic Vision +1!”
“Camouflage +1!”
But among the flood of information, there were some entries that didn’t belong.
“Invisibility +32!”
“Invisibility +8!”
“Invisibility +4!”
Yang Bo was confused. Invisibility? That much Invisibility? What kind of creature could it be? “Could it be a person? Someone from the Mutants? +32—that’s an A-rank target.” Yang Bo rushed out of bed and logged into the game. He bought a flight device and darted toward the location of the incident. He brought the hydrogen bomb, just in case.
The passage was littered with bodies, a complete wreck. A tiger-sized rat with silver fur was especially noticeable. In the distance, there were other rat corpses too.
“Jackpot. Time to go.” Yang Bo grabbed the rat and ran. The reason he ran so fast was because the reward for killing an A-class beast was astronomical.
Yang Bo took out a large bag and stuffed the silver rat’s corpse into it. This was how killing contaminated creatures worked. The ruins around him were filled with large mutated rats, some even the size of dogs.
Yang Bo didn’t have time to care about them. He took the major prize, carrying the bag as he rushed out of the underground space and flew back to the base to claim his reward.
