Chapter Index

Yang Bo couldn’t help but feel anxious. Who knows what penalties await for killing these animals? It’s said that this world’s Animal Protection Law has over 3,700 regulations, and more than 500 of them can result in life imprisonment.

Wu Bing was packing up the plants behind him, stuffing them into a large sack. When he saw the bat, he unexpectedly said with delight, “No worries, the client will pay us extra. Bats carry many kinds of viruses, but dealing with them isn’t part of our job. I’ll contact the butler right away.”

“Brother Wu, killing small animals is a serious matter…”

“Don’t worry about it, kid. Let’s finish this job, and I’ll explain everything in detail later. I’m contacting the butler.” Wu Bing placed the bat’s corpse into a transparent bag and went off to find the butler.

The butler soon arrived, looked at the bat in the bag, said something to Wu Bing, and then a servant dressed in a uniform placed the bag into a black sack and took it away.

Yang Bo felt a great divide from society. The information his body previously held was that harming any animal would lead to severe consequences.

But for now, he didn’t dwell on it. As Yang Bo worked, he realized that the plants in this garden were probably very valuable. He pondered over his ‘transmigrator benefit’ while Wu Bing suddenly shouted.

A rat burst out from the soil and charged straight toward Yang Bo, as the area he was working on was still filled with many plants.

“Kill it!” Wu Bing called out urgently.

Hearing this, Yang Bo hastily threw the shovel in his hand, hitting the rat squarely. The rat twitched and then lay dead.

    Dynamic Vision +1!

This time, Yang Bo focused intently and indeed saw this message appear in his mind.

    “System?”

“Character Panel?” Yang Bo called out different things in his mind, but nothing happened. He was even more confused about how he got this ability.

“Don’t worry, it’s fine. This is a common thing. Do you know why people hire us locals for this kind of work? It’s because of things like this. A professional pest control company would require a whole series of applications, inspections from various organizations, and hefty fees.” Wu Bing continued cleaning up and explaining to the still-dazed Yang Bo.

“For example, killing a rat like we did today would need special approval. Getting rid of bats would be even more complicated, and everything would be recorded. But for these wealthy people, their garden is theirs and no one else’s.”

“There are specialized companies to handle the animal corpses. All rich people have to do is pay, making life much easier.” Wu Bing explained further while wearing his work uniform.

“Then, why can’t their own servants take care of it?” Yang Bo asked curiously.

“If they do it themselves, it’s considered intentional harm and could be seen as premeditated. But if we, a service company, accidentally kill an animal while cleaning, it’s a completely different story.” Wu Bing explained.

“So, are we liable in any way?”

“Of course not. In fact, we might even get compensation, and they might send us to a psychologist. After all, no one likes killing a cute little animal.” Wu Bing replied earnestly.

“Yeah, right. Weren’t you the one shouting to kill it earlier?” thought Yang Bo. Wu Bing continued, “But only talk like this here. No device can spy on anything inside these rich people’s estates. Once we get our wristwatches back, watch what you say.”

“Thanks, Brother Wu.” Yang Bo now realized the privileges the wealthy enjoyed.

“Anything I say here? I won’t admit to it, so…” Wu Bing said with a wink.

“I understand.” Yang Bo nodded, showing he got the message.

“In the future, when you handle tasks on your own, just remember this: Any service beyond our scope, the clients can handle it themselves and will pay for it.”

Killed a rat. Dynamic Vision +1!

During the rest of the cleanup, Yang Bo killed four more rats, as well as a few centipedes, and found an ant nest. However, only killing the rats triggered the ‘transmigrator benefit.’ There were no rewards for killing the centipedes or ants.

Wu Bing even killed a snake.

At noon, the two ate boxed lunches provided by the client, then continued with their work after lunch.

They worked for another three hours in the afternoon and finally completed the cleanup. The garden covered around 300 square meters, but the plants only occupied about 100 square meters. They uprooted all the plants, leveled the flowerbeds, cleaned the ground, and loaded the trash onto a truck. The job was done.

“Yang Bo, how do you feel about today?” Liu Zhijie asked cheerfully when they returned to the company.

“Boss, it was manageable.” Yang Bo answered, though inwardly, he was actually eager for more work.

“Today’s pay is 462 credit points. In the future, when you take on jobs by yourself, the pay will be even higher. After officially joining the company, you’ll also get insurance, pension, maternity fund, etc.” Liu Zhijie seemed satisfied with Yang Bo’s reaction. A large number of people usually don’t return after one job, as doing manual labor is far less comfortable compared to a worry-free life at home.

“I’ll seriously consider it.” Yang Bo nodded.

As Yang Bo left, Liu Zhijie led Wu Bing into a room. Before entering, he took off his wristwatch.

“So, what’s your take?” Liu Zhijie asked lazily, his tone completely different from earlier with Yang Bo.

“Pretty high chance he’ll stay. Today, this rookie killed four rats and one bat. Especially with the first bat, it was almost an instinctive response.” Wu Bing reported with a respectful tone.

“When people come to work for us, it’s usually for one of two reasons: either they want to experience life or they want freedom. I think Yang Bo’s after freedom.” Liu Zhijie commented.

“That’s even better. Give him some high-paying tasks so he can afford a house and car. Then he’ll know what freedom really is.” Wu Bing chuckled.

“Tomorrow, let him experience something more intense. If he’s up for it, great. If not, we’ll move on. Some people just have a violent streak built into their genes.” Liu Zhijie said.

    “Understood.”

“Thanks for your hard work. Having you train the new guy must be tiring.” Liu Zhijie continued.

“You’re too kind, sir. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you.”

“Let’s call it a day.” Liu Zhijie patted Wu Bing on the shoulder as he stood up.

“Let’s hope our new guy becomes a proper cleaner.”

“Yeah, this line of work is getting tougher, and yet, we have so much damn business.” Liu Zhijie shook his head, opened the door, and walked out.
