Chapter 49: Huge Harvest
by xennovelYang Bo’s guess was on point. On the gaming forum, Yang Bo’s photos of several mecha melee weapons were incredibly eye-catching.
“Haha, does this guy have a hoarding habit or something?”
“You guys don’t get it. These weapons are great for slashing birds, no doubt about it. But his luck is insane; he keeps running into mutants every time he goes out.”
“Exactly, wasted all that time and got nothing to show for it?”
“Poor guy, good thing he picked up enough mecha melee weapons. At least he can slash birds and kill rats.”
“Haha.”
To other players, it looked like Yang Bo had gained nothing. They had no idea about the A-grade mutant beast he got last time.
In their eyes, if you didn’t catch a mutant or a mutant animal, there was no real gain.
Yang Bo decided to store the melee mecha weapons in his inventory. After all, he wanted to test his skills and didn’t have time to throw junk out.

Yang Bo checked again. His mecha repair and tracking skills had advanced to high level. The tracking skill probably improved from those mutants yelling at the cave entrance, damaged by the hydrogen bomb and later wiped out by the surface fighter jets’ missiles, which destroyed the underground passage.
Camouflage and Dynamic Vision were also at the grandmaster level, likely due to the hydrogen bomb’s shockwave being contained in the sinkhole, pushing its immense force into the underground passage.
Charge had reached master level.
Yang Bo picked up a metal ornament meant to train his sonic control. With a gentle squeeze, the metal softened like dough in his hand.
After that, he picked up a jade ornament, and with a squeeze, it shattered. Rubbing it between his hands, it turned to dust.
“Tsk tsk.” Yang Bo looked at his hands, feeling the strength in his body. He felt that even if a mecha stood before him, he could punch it into the sky.
“Getting cocky.” Yang Bo knew the feeling came from his sudden power increase.
What intrigued him more was how much electricity his body could absorb now that he was this strong.
But there was no way to test that at the moment. There was no place to discharge electricity. He couldn’t just start boiling water again. Even when washing up, he was extra careful, worrying that his strength might slip out of control.
Fortunately, nothing bad happened. As he paced around his room, Yang Bo mulled over what had happened in the game.
Especially the two times he’d killed mutants, without gaining any of their special mutant abilities.
“Is it because I already have the Electric Power control ability, so it conflicts with their abilities?”
“Or is it a difference between me and their unique mutations, making it impossible to obtain their powers?”
Yang Bo had no answer. Still, this time’s harvest was significant. He had even thought about luring out those mutants before, but never expected them to actually take the bait this time.
“Are these mutants dumb?” Yang Bo recalled the one who flew into the air as soon as he provoked him, thinking how easy it was to anger them. They lacked reason.
After moving around a bit, Yang Bo watched the battle recording and saw that the leading mutant had reached five times the speed of sound. That wasn’t some mecha.
“No wonder mechas kept getting wrecked underground by these mutants. Their smaller size makes them more agile in the underworld.” Yang Bo analyzed, realizing these mutants were much stronger than him.
Yang Bo wondered if he could fly or if his body could exceed several times the speed of sound. After all, as long as you’re fast enough, who cares about gravity?
While Yang Bo was immersed in pondering his new abilities, two people stood in the office of a Gene Serum Company under the Alliance. Board members were interrogating them through a remote system.
“Since when has the company been connected to the Red Earl extremist organization?” A sliver of anger echoed from the sound system in the room, though nobody knew which board member it was.
The two being questioned were a bald man and a middle-aged man in a suit with striking blonde hair, exuding charm.
“Esteemed board member, this oversight is the fault of the security department, primarily the New Drug Monitoring Team’s responsibility,” explained the suited middle-aged man.
“New Drug Monitoring Team, what do you have to say?” someone immediately asked.
The bald man replied in an emotionless tone, “Please, board members, consider that the security department failed their mission, which is why it was handed over to our monitoring team. The security department has much more funding annually and still failed. What can we do with less? I believe they misassessed the target and gave incorrect intelligence. As for the Red Earl, we only released the task following the standard procedure, not expecting Red Earl’s people to take the job.”
The blonde man coldly sneered, “You’re lying. We have recordings of your communications.”
The bald man chuckled. “Evidence? Based on some conversation? If that’s how it works, I could say you’re part of the Red Earl Extremist Organization yourself. Doesn’t the security department rely on evidence?”
“I think your monitoring team should be dissolved. You can’t even track a resident properly.”
“The early warning system wasn’t made by us. It’s based on different parameters given by the company for each drug.”
“Enough. This incident has cost the company greatly. We need to know if the new drug works as soon as possible. If it’s not sorted within a month, both of you will be dealt with.”
“Agreed!”
“Agreed.” The other board members voiced their consent.
Finally, the meeting room door slowly opened. The bald man and the blonde middle-aged man exchanged glances. The bald man scoffed, “I never thought I’d have to work with scum like you.”
“Heh, you’re no better. You record people dying in real-time, watching frame by frame.”
“Scum, what’s your plan?”
“Our security department doesn’t like working with incompetent people…”
“Heh, let’s see who catches the target first. Didn’t I mention? Our special operatives are still on the planet with the target. Let’s see if your security team can even get onto the planet, haha.”
“You SOB, why didn’t you say so earlier?”
“Because I’m not confident, am I? You’re the higher-level Supervisor, and I’m just mid-level. If you don’t try harder, we might both end up as regular workers. Who’d lose more, haha.”
Yang Bo couldn’t stop grinning. He had just tested his sonic detection, and its effectiveness had improved by ten times. It was practically a godlike vision, with a fivefold range increase and much clearer detection. Even the Genetic Evolver in the next building never noticed he was being scanned.
