Chapter 50: A New Direction for Sonic Control
by xennovelDifferent. Yang Bo now realized that Genetic Evolvers are fundamentally different from ordinary residents.
“What Ancient Martial Arts, what Gene Serum, they’re all trash in front of me.”
“Fighting is all about being fast, ruthless, and accurate. When one day I’m so fast that technological weapons can’t lock onto me, I’ll be invincible.”
“Though it seems my Invisibility also has this ability.”
In his past life, Yang Bo had been frustrated. In this life, he was desperate for power. He clenched his fist, not knowing how strong he was, but squeezing a solid metal ornament into dough was certainly not ordinary.
More importantly, it wasn’t just his strength – his skin, muscles, and bones showed no discomfort when squeezing the metal, as if he were just pinching playdough.
Standing in front of the mirror, he saw the same body he had in his previous life. Standing at 1.7 meters tall, an oily middle-aged man with a beer belly, a result of his tendency to drink.
“This looks familiar.” Yang Bo looked at his previous life’s body. His Camouflage had reached a level where he could adjust the bones of his entire body and even control his height. Of course, certain other areas could also be adjusted… cough cough.
“How can I get out of this dangerous place?” Yang Bo returned to his original form, looking at the patrol aircraft soaring across the sky.
With those things up there, individual strength would need to reach the legendary S-rank; otherwise, you’re just sitting prey.
“With Invisibility, I could completely sneak out, but where would I go next?” Yang Bo felt uncertain, much like when he first went out to work. He didn’t know what was ahead or what he was facing.
Shaking his head, Yang Bo began to train his strength. He did 500 push-ups in one go without breaking a sweat.
“How can I precisely control my strength?” Yang Bo thought hard but couldn’t come up with a good method.
Last time Yang Bo went out, he met Li Aidu, so this time he wore a mask. More than half of the people in this world wore them, as most residents suffered from social anxiety due to lack of human interaction. Yang Bo hadn’t worn one last time, as he didn’t have the habit in his previous life.
While wandering outside, he saw a place far off with robot enforcers and quickly dodged away. He didn’t know what Red Earl had released underground, but it was probably something bad, as it was still being cleaned up.
Where there was no interference, most of the work was done by robots. Occasionally, special operations required human remote control.
Mechs were manually controlled because the situations mechs had to deal with were far more complex than simple tasks.
“Boss.” Yang Bo went out today, and there weren’t many people on the bus. He had received an email from Liu Zhijie asking him to come to the Company.
Liu Zhijie rubbed his forehead and asked, “Yang Bo, how have you been lately? Feeling any better?”
“Thank you, boss, I’m much better.” Yang Bo wasn’t sure why Liu Zhijie called him.
Sighing heavily, Liu Zhijie said, “Due to the threat of Red Earl, the planetary security level has gone up. There’s no sign of relief in the short term, and you know, housing prices have crashed. Many employees have suffered a great loss, and several have gone missing. The Company is facing hard times.”
“Boss, are you planning to quit? Are you terminating my contract? I have no objections,” Yang Bo said, thinking Liu Zhijie was abandoning ship.
Liu Zhijie shook his head, saying, “This planet is no longer safe. Organizations like Red Earl could launch a crazy retaliation at any moment. In Red Earl’s worst incident, they released a harmful substance that wiped out half the planet’s population.”
“Ah.” Yang Bo didn’t doubt that Red Earl was capable of such actions. Those guys were a bit off in the head.
Liu Zhijie continued, “So I have a plan. Leave this planet and develop somewhere else. The head office has tentatively agreed in principle, but the exact location is still to be determined. I called you today to hear your thoughts.”
“If you’re willing to come with me, the Company will provide you with a free Gene Serum or a secret technique at the destination. You won’t have to do any extra work.”
Yang Bo’s heart skipped a beat upon hearing this. Did this fatty sense some danger? Is that why he’s planning to run?
“I’ll think about it.” Yang Bo didn’t immediately agree, having not expected Liu Zhijie to bring this up.
Liu Zhijie nodded. “Of course, we can’t leave right away either.”
“Boss, is there anything else?” Yang Bo asked, seeing Liu Zhijie nod in agreement.
Watching Yang Bo walk away, Liu Zhijie rubbed his forehead. From Yang Bo’s attitude, he seemed reluctant to leave for another planet.
Besides, administrative planets would never allow a massive population decline. It would make the politicians’ numbers look bad, and leaving smoothly would certainly cause some trouble.
Although they could produce babies in factories, that still takes time.
While walking, Yang Bo pondered, “Is it possible to destroy objects with targeted Sound Waves?”
Instead of taking the bus, Yang Bo strolled around. This time, he wore his mask, something he had previously overlooked. Today, he planned to visit a nearby weapons store that sold energy weapons for Genetic Evolvers.
It had just opened today.
As he walked, Yang Bo experimented with controlling Sound Waves.
Suddenly, Yang Bo’s mind clicked. Footsteps? Wasn’t the Earth’s method of oil exploration based on detecting shockwaves from explosions? I can totally do that! So Yang Bo slightly amplified his footsteps, carefully feeling the feedback from the ground as the sound waves bounced back.
Sound can actually travel very far. It’s just that different creatures have varying hearing ranges. Someone could shout at you from 100 meters away, and you’d hear them, but if they shouted from 500 meters away, you wouldn’t. But the sound waves would still be there, even if you couldn’t hear them.
“Three meters?” Bit by bit, Yang Bo realized he could now sense up to three meters underground. Any deeper, and the signal became too fuzzy.
“If I could destroy things three meters underground with Sound Waves…!” Yang Bo’s eyes lit up. He’d experiment at home later. If he could transmit Sound Waves three meters down and destroy things, this move could be a game-changer.
Yang Bo continued experimenting. Initially, his footsteps made a loud noise, but they gradually returned to normal. However, he didn’t test any destructive capabilities underground just yet, as it could attract unwanted attention.
The energy weapons store looked completely different from what Yang Bo imagined. It resembled a hardware shop back on Earth.
The shop was piled high with all sorts of energy weapons, in all shapes and sizes. It felt like a junkyard.
“Customers choose for themselves. No refunds after purchase. Choose wisely,” said a man wearing a Virtual Headset, his hands equipped with Virtual Control gloves. He seemed to be playing a game, despite noticing someone had entered the shop.
Yang Bo was a bit confused. Choose for himself? How was he supposed to choose?
