Chapter 52: Stalemate
by xennovelSince Yang Bo wasn’t going to work, he still felt at ease. He was getting paid while doing his own things, and the compensation from this incident should be considerable. As a resident, he would get more compensation than citizens.
“How should I control Sonic Control?” While keeping an eye on the person following him, Yang Bo pondered how to further tap into his Sonic Control ability.
In theory, isolating objects and destroying the target behind them should be successful.
With no other options, Yang Bo could only experiment bit by bit. First, he ran solid-object experiments by placing an item in a box, then attempting to control sound waves.
This experiment proved quite challenging. After working for most of the day, he hadn’t made any headway, and the boxes were destroyed repeatedly.
“This is such a headache!” Despite not entering the game yet, Yang Bo knew entering the game would increase his strength. But right now, he didn’t even know his current capabilities. What exactly was Charge all about? Also, how strong was he? He had no clear benchmarks.
After two days of consecutive tests, Yang Bo hadn’t made any progress. He had no idea where to even begin.
As for searching online, Yang Bo purposely avoided it. Most Genetic Evolvers kept their abilities secret, except for those from families with recorded abilities.
It was rumored the Military had more data stored on such subjects. But to get their data, one would need to join the Military first.
Yang Bo wasn’t interested: Who would willingly accept restrictions? It’s much better to be free, going wherever one pleased. If things here were about to fall apart, he’d simply move to one of the other two nations. Whichever country wins, that’s where he’d go.
“Why hasn’t this woman left? It’s been two days!”
“No one’s made a move yet? Did I misjudge the situation?” After monitoring the woman for two days, Yang Bo began doubting himself. Was his intuition off? Even though Yang Bo thought his instinct might be wrong, he preferred to err on the side of caution.
“This Energy Weapon gathers power so well. Just a little energy and it’s already this strong.” Holding the Energy Weapon in his hand, he injected just a bit of energy. Its sharpness increased dramatically, slicing through an all-metal ornament as easily as cutting through water.
Yang Bo felt he was well-equipped at this point. He had the Energy Weapon and a Mecha. If anyone assumed he was unarmed and acted accordingly, he’d show them what real “surprise” meant.
Yang Bo could picture the shock on his enemies’ faces when he wielded the Energy Weapon. Of course, if it wasn’t enough, he’d release the Mecha.
“I need to stay low-profile. I need to make them underestimate me. Plus, who’s watching me? It’s happened at least three times now if you don’t count Red Earl. If you include Red Earl, this would be the fourth time.” Yang Bo had no idea who was targeting him, but it had already happened several times.
What Yang Bo didn’t know was while he was waiting for the woman to leave, she was also waiting for him to make a move.
The two watched one another in silence.
Yang Bo’s efforts weren’t in vain. His experiment of isolating objects with a Sonic Attack had made progress. By snapping his fingers with both hands, the sound waves would converge behind the object and hit the target.
Unfortunately, the success rate was still low. Distance, material composition (whether it was wood, metal, rubber, or something else), and the target’s material all played a role.
Thankfully, Yang Bo’s brain was fast enough to process such complex data, or he wouldn’t be able to retain everything.
Every different combination led to a unique attack strategy.
“Someone’s coming?” After almost ten days at home, Yang Bo noticed another man entering the building he had been watching.
The two seemed to get into an argument, but Yang Bo couldn’t hear what they were saying. It looked like a serious disagreement.
“What kind of trick is this?” Yang Bo was puzzled. Using Sonic Control’s passive ability, he could normally hear what people were saying. But now, he heard nothing, and the sound waves coming back were noisy. Something was interfering.
Inside the building 150 meters away, the woman Yang Bo was watching was indeed in an argument with a man.
With a threatening tone, the woman said, “This is a target for our department, not your security department. You stepping in is extremely disrespectful.”
The man shrugged. “Your department’s rookies haven’t even managed to handle a resident. If we in the security department had gotten involved earlier, this rookie would already be in our lab, and the analysis might’ve been finished.”
“Do you even hear how pathetic that sounds? You guys failed last time, that’s why the task was handed to us! Now that we’re about to succeed, you want to swoop in and steal the job? Your security department might have higher ranking and more authority, but don’t forget, this isn’t your turf.” The woman was clearly annoyed.
Large companies reward results, and the woman was about to wrap up her task when someone tried to snatch it from her. No one would stand for that.
The man pulled out a piece of paper and said, “This is from your department Supervisor. Have a look. If your department hadn’t begged us for help, we wouldn’t have bothered.”
He continued, “Do you even understand how dangerous it is being on this planet? The company board has even issued orders. If we don’t finish the mission, we’re all done for. I’m sure you don’t want to end up as some low-level employee.”
“Damn those incompetent superiors!” Blowing up in anger, the woman opened the paper and couldn’t help but curse.
“Alright here are your options: either cooperate with me or stay far away and don’t get in my way. I’ll show you what professionalism looks like.” Sitting nonchalantly on the sofa, the man gave her a lustful look and spoke.
“Go to hell! Your security department has already failed once. I’ll be waiting for your next failure, bastard!” Unbothered by the man’s gaze, the woman packed her things and cussed him out in frustration.
“Losers can only use words as their weapon.” The man shrugged again and walked to the window, staring at the room where Yang Bo was staying. Dozens of methods to acquire the target’s biological sample ran through his mind.
