Chapter 66: Ahaha
by xennovelMecha combat training. This is a built-in virtual training feature in the mecha game.
The purpose of mecha combat training is to teach players control techniques and improve their response abilities, or so the game’s developer claims.
Yang Bo had undergone mecha combat training before. It involves a virtual opponent whose speed increases progressively along with their display of advanced techniques.
At the start, Yang Bo could easily defeat his opponent, but as soon as the fight dragged on, the opponent’s power level would rise by a tier every minute. Its speed would visibly increase.
Yang Bo tried to imagine the mecha as his real body, though the mecha was not as agile as a real person.
The key to mecha combat is speed, precision, ruthlessness, and the ability to anticipate. If you can predict your opponent’s moves, you’ve already won.
Yang Bo’s Dynamic Vision skill gave him this ability, allowing him to foresee where his opponent would attack from.
In such combat, it’s unrealistic to remain unscathed. Yang Bo often traded blows, taking light or severe injuries as long as he could kill his opponent in return.
Due to the intensity, Yang Bo could only last through about two or three matches in a 30-minute training session before needing a rest. Otherwise, he’d get a headache.
This was the side effect of Dynamic Vision—his brain operating at high speed.
“Energy Detector.” Recently, Yang Bo found another way to uncover more of this world’s secrets.
It was through online shopping. Yang Bo was planning to buy an energy detector to measure his energy fluctuations. However, after looking closely on the shopping site, he found that the detectors could only sense known energy waves, but couldn’t detect unknown energy waves.
“That means my Sonic Detection and Invisibility energy flows have neither been detected nor recorded.” Yang Bo had read some scientific articles in his past life and understood that any form of energy would have a specific frequency or wavelength.
On Earth, humans had only discovered things like gravitational waves after continuous exploration.
Yang Bo also researched other items and found that energy stones were classified into numerous types.
There were both synthetic and naturally mined energy stones. The synthetic stones had fewer varieties compared to the natural ones. Many naturally mined energy stones couldn’t be categorized by energy type, whereas with synthetic stones, their type could be predetermined.
Energy stone accessories had another use: when in danger, gene warriors could absorb energy from corresponding types of energy stones.
Although it would damage the body, in emergencies, this could turn the tide, since the stones shared the same type of energy but weren’t identical in origin.
Absorbing non-identical energy stones caused unknown damage to the body. Thus, this method was only used in critical scenarios.
“From now on, I’ll call you Phantom.” Yang Bo looked at the energy weapon in his hand, a sword similar to a Tang blade he had previously bought. Using his Metal Superpower ability, he slowly transformed it into a horse-chopping blade and gave it an official name.
This transformation almost made Yang Bo burst into laughter. In this highly advanced technological world, revealing your true appearance at certain times would absolutely cause someone to trace you down.
“The mecha in my storage is made from metals similar to mine. If I take it out and change its appearance, won’t I have countless identities… Ahaha!” Yang Bo grew even more excited, almost jumping up in joy. The third-gen mecha was too conspicuous. If he pulled that out, Red Earl would undoubtedly chase him down. But if he switched to another mecha—Ahaha!—he’d have countless Camouflages!
Now that Yang Bo had his Camouflage ability, he could change into someone else’s appearance. His weapon could transform too, and his skin could even be metalized. This would make it nearly impossible for anyone to identify him just by looks.
His strategy was to act like a hidden mastermind. Open confrontation didn’t suit a world so advanced in technology. It was better to grow cautiously while stabbing from the shadows, just like during the Red Earl incident. He had benefited the most, yet no one could find any clue about him.
Going forward, he would continue his mecha combat training while familiarizing himself with his Metal Superpower ability. The weapons in his hands could now transform into all kinds of forms.
He could also change his appearance and metalize his skin, making it impossible for anyone to recognize him.
________________________________________________________________________________________________ Pado Planet. In the garden of a certain estate, two middle-aged men in suits were sitting on a bench. One of them spoke: “Over 20,000 citizens have already applied to immigrate to other planets. Of these, nearly 9,000 are heading to March Planet. Are you just going to allow this, Chief Executive?”
“Dear Minister of Finance, why would you say such a thing? Citizens moving freely between planets within the Alliance is perfectly legal. They aren’t violating any laws.” The other man, Pado Planet’s Chief Executive Reb, smiled as he spoke, his gaze following a cloud slowly drifting across the sky.
“Chief Executive, you know as well as I do that laws are laws, but this concerns our core interests. Of the 20,000, more than 10,000 are taxpayers, and the rest are welfare recipients.”
“If this continues unchecked, I believe it won’t be long before our tax revenue takes a significant hit. The growing deficit would become a major problem. If the annual increase in the deficit reaches dangerous levels, the Alliance might begin investigating us.” The man added.
Reb glanced at his Finance Minister and shook his head. “Indeed, my dear Finance Minister. While we abide by the Alliance laws, some individuals do not. For example, those wandering pirates near the interstellar routes. I believe this immigration could become quite dangerous. This wave of immigration may just be the beginning. The next one might see people deciding to stay here on Pado Planet instead.”
“Oh, that’s good news! It seems the Chief Executive has a foolproof plan. That’s great for all of us. After all, the compensation from the Alliance for this latest attack is a large sum. It should be more than enough to provide emotional restitution to citizens attacked by pirates during the immigration.” The Minister of Finance whistled in delight.
Reb nodded. “Moreover, we can pin the blame on the Chief Executive of March Planet. His recklessness caused these immigrants to suffer. I’m sure that, on behalf of these immigrants, we can sue March Planet’s chief and demand compensation.”
“That’s fantastic news! But why haven’t the morons in the Security Department found that mysterious mecha yet? These idiots waste so much of our money every year.” The Finance Minister’s eyes lit up.
“Yes, the Security Department is full of idiots. They should be sent to the mining planets to work rather than wasting taxpayers’ money!”
“Exactly. What a wonderful day! I think this is the best news I’ve heard in a while. Let’s quietly wait for more good news!”
“Of course. Care to join me in my study for a drink to celebrate these immigrants?”
“Naturally!” The two men left and headed towards a distant castle, several hundred meters away.
