Chapter 71: Experiences
by xennovelThe transport ship slowly ascended into the sky, then accelerated. As it passed through the atmosphere, the ship’s energy shield interacted with the air, creating a beautiful sight.
“Wow, such speed.” Yang Bo knew how fast you had to be going to cause friction with the atmosphere. On Earth, human astronauts had to undergo long-term special training, and yet even so, many would sustain injuries after a few missions.
Soon, the transport ship broke through the atmosphere, and the massive Skyport appeared before Yang Bo for the first time. It looked like a stiff crab. Originally, Yang Bo thought the port’s glow came from reflected starlight, but no, it was just from the lights.
“Impressive energy system. But well, it makes sense— the latest mechs even have antimatter batteries. My own third-generation mech in the game already has a fusion battery.” The transport ship elegantly docked on one of the crab legs.
The liquid in the energy protection chamber disappeared quickly, and it had only been a short while.
On the ground inside the Skyport, there were numerous green arrows. Yang Bo and the others were on a small train-like vehicle that followed these arrows. They were still wearing the clothes they had on when they arrived.
The fat boss spoke: “Interstellar travel is extremely dangerous. There are silent particle storms and supercharged rays. Of course, it’s very unlikely that anything would happen during a single trip. But there’s a recorded case of a ship that, during a month-long voyage, was struck by over 280 high-energy rays.”
“Gene-evolved individuals can endure quite a bit thanks to their internal superpowers. But even they have to wear protective suits when exposed to such frequent impacts.” The fat boss gave Yang Bo a look of approval. First, because Yang Bo didn’t hesitate to kill small animals, meaning he could be trained into a competent subordinate. Second, the fat boss suspected Yang Bo might already be a gene-evolved individual. Otherwise, during that task with Wu Bing, how did Wu Bing not notice, but this kid got away so fast? A subordinate with mysterious powers reflected well on the fat boss’s expectations.
The little train moved inside the Skyport, where there was no gravity. This allowed them to see trains moving on all of the walls without falling.
“Our clothes have gravity effects that create a force with the floor, making it feel like we’re on a planet.” The fat boss explained as Yang Bo curiously watched a train pass overhead.
“We’re on a gravity vehicle. Every gravity vehicle has its own independent gravity frequency, letting it float along the passage…” the fat boss continued.
“That’s the ship we’ll be boarding. It’s 18 kilometers long, 9 kilometers wide, and its height reaches 500 meters.”
“It uses a fully sealed honeycomb structure.”
“Even if we encounter unknown asteroids during interstellar travel, it won’t cause much damage to the ship.” The fat boss pointed out the window at a flat ship docking on one of the crab legs outside.
18 kilometers! Massive! However, such a ship could only be used for space travel and couldn’t land on any planets. The intense gravity would tear it apart.
The Skyport also connects to the ground via a space elevator, as well as through transport ships.
“That’s the space elevator. It uses full-magnetic propulsion. We’re civilians and can’t really handle the speed of a space elevator.” The fat boss said with a serious expression.
It was indeed fast. Yang Bo watched a spindle-shaped object shoot up in an instant. The space elevator was surrounded by numerous ropes made of some material, with lights shining on them and equipment. It seemed like they were forming a magnetic levitation tunnel.
It felt somewhat like a railgun, except the space elevator could control the inside of the elevator’s floating mechanism, acceleration, deceleration, and more.
“Alright, we’ll live in this area now. This is the cabin zone dedicated to residents. Don’t leave this area.” Once aboard the transport ship, they reached a place that looked like a large shopping mall. The center was hollow, reaching fifty to sixty meters in height. The dome above was a simulated blue sky.
The living quarters were about ten square meters, with a bathroom and a large double bed, much like those in budget hotels.
While Yang Bo was reading a manual, he went to take a shower. After taking off his clothes and stepping inside, the shower sealed off, and the water vapor washed his body. Because he wasn’t wearing clothes, he experienced weightlessness.
“They even have games.” Yang Bo was surprised that he could play games here. There were mech games, and the equipment was even better than what he had in his dorm.
There were also various venues: amusement parks, zoos. If you felt lonely by yourself, you could even adopt a robotic pet… uh.
You could also rent robots, with key components guaranteed to be unused, available in various models…
“Wow, wow.” Yang Bo exclaimed after reading the manual. He realized this place was essentially an independent community, a fully enclosed structure.
In outer space, there were still many unexplored phenomena beyond human detection. Every year, spaceships or even planets were struck by meteors without being detected by any human devices.
When a transport ship’s sealed compartment gets hit by a meteor, rescue robots quickly stuff the guests into escape pods while maintenance robots fix the ship as fast as possible.
If repairs fail, the escape pods become escape vessels, flying toward the nearest planet or fleet…
The windows in the rooms and the community outside weren’t really windows. They were screens simulating day and night on a planet.
“These gravity suits are interesting.” Yang Bo observed how everyone was wearing travel-specific gravity suits.
Here, you could eat and drink as much as you wanted, with no restrictions. However, meals had to be eaten in designated areas, and food residue would be sucked away by the ventilation system.
“What should I be doing now?” Yang Bo wasn’t sure what to do at the moment. He considered playing a mech game, but who knew whether the warship’s systems had any backdoors?
In this world, research on neural networks was strictly forbidden after an earlier horrifying event, where hackers attacked and implanted bad memories in people through the neural network. After that incident, it was said that everyone affected died within three years, all by suicide. The exact nature of the memories transmitted was never revealed—perhaps Yang Bo didn’t have the clearance.
Moreover, further studies discovered that once a neural network was attacked, even a slight increase in voltage could damage human nerves.
“Yang Bo, here’s a book. Take a look. It’s about the basics of ancient martial arts and Secret Techniques. You can practice a bit now and get a feel for it. Once we reach March Planet, the Company will give you the chance to pick a technique or martial art. You will decide.” Just as Yang Bo was feeling bored, the fat boss handed him a paper book.
“Remember, don’t let others see this. I’m off. Just treat this like resting at home, relax.” The fat boss said as he left.
Yang Bo nodded and was about to open the book when the broadcast announced that the ship was beginning its journey, which would take about three months and twelve days.
Meanwhile, on Pado Planet, someone received a message. With a cold smile, they logged into a certain game and sent a message to someone.
