Chapter 74: The Brutal Pirates
by xennovelEveryone’s face turned dark as they looked at the warship in the distance. There were both large and small warships, but no matter how big the transport ship was, it wasn’t a match for the warship. Even though the enemy’s warship was small, it had energy shields, laser cannons, and even other energy weapons.
Yang Bo was puzzled. How did these pirates get onto the transport ship? Was this some sort of joke? Could this really not be a trap? Intercepting a transport ship in the vast sea of stars wasn’t easy. This wasn’t like being on the ground with only one route.
“Boss, I suspect there’s a conspiracy.” A young man spoke up. Yang Bo looked at him and realized it was the guy from the floor above his dorm building.
The Fat Boss took a deep breath. “It’s probably those scumbags from Pado Planet. I was wondering why this approval process went so smoothly. Those dog bastards.”
“Boss, what about our company?”
“All of you stay here. I’ll try to negotiate. If that doesn’t work, then we’ll fight.” Liu Zhijie planned to use the company’s reputation to see what happens.
At that moment, the large screen started broadcasting. The pirates arrogantly shouted, “Below is a top-tier cabin. There are two B-level Genetic Evolvers registered here, along with over 20 other Genetic Evolvers of different levels. Let’s see if anyone is willing to resist.”
When the pirates opened the cabin door, Yang Bo saw it. My goodness! Inside was a lawn, a garden, and buildings that looked like castles reaching at least four hundred meters high. The space covered four or five square kilometers. There were even some pets on the grass, though it was unclear if they were real. The world of the wealthy was beyond imagination, surrounded by blue skies and white clouds.
One of the pirates turned and shot a laser from his laser gun at a cow. The cow bbroke apart, revealing a metallic structure inside. The pirate leader, followed by a mecha and over ten pirates wearing Energy Energy Suits, strode in.
“You have one minute. If you don’t come out in that time, we’ll kill you. I’ll blast open the cabin, and let all this trash be sucked into space with you, turning into a heap of space junk.” The pirate leader arrogantly declared.
“Silver Moon Pirates, the most mysterious pirate crew. Whenever they rob a transport ship, the people either disappear or are never seen again.” Liu Zhijie said quietly.
“Thirty seconds left.”
“Twenty seconds left.” The pirate leader shouted from the big screen.
“I have money! I have lots of money!” Someone yelled loudly as they walked out of one of the castle-like buildings.
“Everyone come out.”
Just as Yang Bo and the others thought the people inside were about to surrender, suddenly, two figures dashed out from within the castle. Their speed was incredible.
“Energy Suit! Energy Weapons!” The Fat Boss gasped softly.
Indeed, the two looked like medieval warriors wearing leather armor. Their Energy Suits fit snugly, glowing faintly, and their one-handed swords blazed as though they were on fire.
The two moved so fast that they covered several hundred meters in a flash.
But in the next second, lasers began to shoot. Judging by their size, it was clear they came from the mecha’s laser cannon. The lasers hit the two, halting them in midair.
In less than a second, the mecha’s laser cannons fired hundreds of shots, making both of them explode. This is the power of technology.
Even high-frequency laser cannons were used. No matter how much energy a person had in their body, they couldn’t fight against technology. And just like that, the two B-level Genetic Evolvers, equipped with Energy Energy Suits and Energy Weapons, were gone.
“Relying on brute strength like that doesn’t work. Support abilities are way better,” Yang Bo thought after witnessing the scene. He was even more convinced that direct confrontation with mecha wasn’t the way. Special abilities were necessary.
As he watched, Yang Bo’s mind raced, thinking about what he’d do if he found himself in this situation. What strategy should he use? “Time’s up,” the pirate leader shouted loudly, still calm as ever.
Then the screen shifted, showing the pirate warship outside. The warship’s laser cannon shot out a beam of light.
In the next second, the luxurious space Yang Bo had been admiring had a huge hole blown out of its bottom. The vacuum of space unleashed a massive suction force, and everything in the entire cabin was instantly pulled into space.
Several robots flew out. Each one carried an escape pod, and the people inside the cabin were being shoved into the pods by the robots.
The castle, the grass, the trees, everything was sucked out into space in an instant.
But just as the escape pods activated their automatic mode, a space Drone Fighter whooshed in and started firing lasers, blowing them up one by one.
Some of the Genetic Evolvers managed to open their escape pods, but the next second, they too were shot down. The energy inside a Genetic Evolver’s body causes them to explode once hit by a laser.
The pirates, wearing their Energy Energy Suits and with mechas at their side, weren’t afraid of the vacuum environment.
Yang Bo saw that there were women, children, over one hundred and sixty people—all gone just like that. The transport ship’s rescue system operated independently. When any of the sealed cabins were compromised, the rescue system was designed to move people to the escape pods before they suffocated.
Unfortunately, the escape pods had no defense against space fighter jets.
The others gasped. Over one hundred people were gone. How much wealth had they possessed? Some of them even had Energy Weapons and Energy Energy Suits.
“Unless we had mecha ourselves.”
“This is definitely a setup. The transport ship’s guards had mecha.”
“We just don’t know where the mecha are.”
“Probably destroyed by the pirates when the attack started.”
“Even if we had mecha, it’s no use. Mecha all have a key system.”
“Sigh… we’re done for this time.”
As they talked, the group continued to watch the pirates’ next move.
“Excellent. Next,” the pirate leader coldly said as he looked at the empty cabin. Apart from the glowing screen at the top, everything else was shrouded in darkness, with only the metallic walls visible.
The transport ship had a honeycomb structure, like a watertight compartment. A single cabin being destroyed wouldn’t affect the others. This design accounted for the high-speed objects that occasionally fly through space. Being struck was no big deal.
“We’re actually really busy. Initially, we wanted to destroy this transport ship, but someone paid us to spare you.”
“Do you know why there are no survivors when we rob a ship? Because they all turn into space junk—maybe hundreds or thousands of years from now, someone will find the debris. Who knows, they might even take it back and study it as an ancient relic.”
“And don’t think a warship is coming to save you. It’s impossible. The transport ship has already changed course. As for the escort team you’re wondering about?”
“Look at this…”
On the big screen, one after another body floated outside, dumped into space. Judging by their uniforms, they were crew members of the transport ship.
“There must be a mole.” Liu Zhijie took a deep breath.
Everyone’s face was grim. The Silver Moon Pirates were ruthless, killing an entire group for disobedience.
“Everyone, it seems we’ll have to rely on our own luck this time. I’ll try to disable the system. Such a large transport ship has places we can hide, and the escape pod system operates separately. The system was designed to account for warship threats. The survival rate is actually quite high.” Liu Zhijie took a deep breath as he spoke.
“Boss.” The others were in shock. Had the boss not just seen the situation? A high survival rate?
