Chapter 77: Calamity Star Constitution
by xennovelYang Bo walked through a relatively wide maintenance passage. Originally, there were automatic devices like elevators here, but unfortunately, the main system had been shut down, likely deactivated manually. On both sides of the passage were tall metal frameworks, with various compartments built into them. The walls of these compartments were made from multi-layered composite materials and metals.
High strength, great toughness, thermal insulation, and various ventilation systems. All the wiring ran through this maintenance passage.
“Tsk tsk, the radiation protection measures.” On both sides of the passage, there were visible radiation protection materials, something that looked a bit like sponge.
Transport ships and warships both have several control systems: a wireless control system, a wired control system, and even the most primitive hydraulic manual control system.
Humans initially achieved wireless control, but later discovered that cosmic storms and high-energy particle rays were much stronger. In these realms, using wireless control was just a waste.
Then they returned to fiber optic control and discovered that in some space regions, interference still occurred. So, they eventually installed the oldest hydraulic manual systems in key positions.
In 99% of cases, fiber optic control doesn’t have any problems. The entire transport ship relied on this system to transmit information, same for the signal transmission system. Right now, the signal transmission system has been cut off.
As a result, each compartment lost communication with each other. Even the mecha radar couldn’t detect anything farther due to strong shielding measures.
Another key point was that the Silver Moon Pirates hadn’t installed biological detection radars on their mecha. After all, they’re raiders—wouldn’t they swap the bio-detection radar for something else? This meant that every squad of the Silver Moon Pirates was acting alone, with no way to link up via wireless signal. Otherwise, the boss wouldn’t have sent the mecha out to the transport ship to connect with the warship since the communication system was already damaged.
Yang Bo didn’t know this; after all, he was a civilian and had limited information in the past.
Yang Bo arrived at a maintenance hub where various tools and robots were stored. Unfortunately, the robots were now unusable.
He took off his clothes and hid them, then swapped them for a spaceship repair worker’s outfit. Most of the work here could actually be done by robots, so there weren’t many staff.
The repair worker’s clothes held the same function as the previous ones.
Yang Bo chose a component storage room and with a thought, released his mecha, then opened the cockpit and stepped out.
Eight meters tall, 108 tons, lighter than when it was first manufactured due to modifications.
The mecha had a gravity system, so it wouldn’t float, unless you turned it off, then it would float in space.
“Tsk tsk.” With this guy around, Yang Bo felt much more secure.
With a thought, Yang Bo placed his hand on the mecha.
Metal Superpower!
Oh! Oh! Oh! Yang Bo initially thought reshaping the mecha would be difficult, but once he got a feel for it, the moment he thought about it, the mecha’s appearance changed.
What was once bulky and blocky now looked sleek, like a smaller model of the latest-generation mecha. Of course, it was just the exterior—the inside was still a third-generation model. Like… well, something like that joke about a car that looks like a Porsche from afar but… ahem.
“Good, good.” Yang Bo watched as the mecha was successfully transformed. Now when he committed questionable acts, people wouldn’t be able to recognize it.
Looking inside the cockpit, Yang Bo spotted a suit of the Red Earl’s armor and wondered how this thing got stored with the mecha last time.
He put it on and tested it; it didn’t seem to have any effect…
“So, I can store things inside the mecha cockpit and then take them out later?”
“What about the mecha’s storage compartment?” Yang Bo knew that every mecha had a storage area.
“That way, when I get some nice loot in the future, I won’t have to lose it, right?” Yang Bo didn’t fully understand the mechanics behind it but figured he could still use it perfectly fine.
Looking again at the Red Earl’s armor, he placed it inside the mecha storage compartment. Who knows, this thing might come in handy one day.
Once in the cockpit, Yang Bo suddenly realized he had become one with the mecha. This was the result of Metal Superpower and the energy resonance between them.
He familiarized himself with it first—walking, running. The five-meter-long energy weapon, which Yang Bo previously thought was a third-generation plasma blade, turned out to be energy metal instead, with a power a hundred times stronger than a plasma blade.
“The Red Earl’s attack wasn’t simple. Dimension Company’s stock soared after that incident. And more importantly, several super shareholders emerged in the company afterward. Could this be a trap set by someone who knew Dimension Company’s cutting-edge technology?”
“Or maybe the politicians on Pado Planet have some conspiracy?” Yang Bo thought for a moment that the Red Earl incident was far more complex but left it at that.
“Guess I’ll hide out here for a few days.” Yang Bo trained for two hours, then stored the mecha and entered the repairman’s monitor room. The place was concealed, spacious, and had decent rest area conditions.
Yang Bo also discovered that his energy weapon could turn invisible. However, the mecha could not—the energy from its batteries was different from his own.
There was even an option to recharge. There were plenty of batteries meant for the robots, and he could also siphon some electricity to replenish himself.
“What’s this thing?” Yang Bo looked at several safes in the monitor room, which appeared to be old-fashioned mechanical locks.
With a thought, the energy weapon he’d bought earlier appeared in his hand. Even though these safes were made of the hardest metal, under his glowing blue energy weapon, they were like tofu.
Inside the safes were transparent containers, each with a diameter of 100 millimeters and a length of half a meter. A sticky blue liquid filled these containers, within which was a triangular pillar, measuring 50 millimeters wide and 30 centimeters long.
“Warship Energy Stones!” Yang Bo immediately recognized them, his warship repair skills coming in handy.
Yang Bo instantly understood that these were energy stones used exclusively on warships, each weighing up to ten kilograms. Usually, warships ran on nuclear fusion energy systems, but during combat, when energy shields or laser cannons were at full power, energy stones were needed to sustain them.
The warship’s energy shield defense system was automatic—the greater the external attack, the stronger the shield. If an enemy launched a saturation attack, the energy shield system would instantly release a powerful protective barrier.
At that moment, a large amount of energy would be needed. The reactor couldn’t supply it all, so only the energy stones could provide the necessary burst of power.
“Crap, wait a second. These things are banned by the major Alliances.” Yang Bo suddenly realized something was off.
Just then, Yang Bo heard movement. Hurriedly, he stripped off the repairman’s uniform, stuffed it into a corner, and floated to a side of the ceiling, using his Invisibility. Since they were in space, without his clothes, he floated effortlessly.
Invisibility!
Just as he activated Invisibility, he heard someone open the door to the monitor room.
“What bad luck, how did we run into this kind of expert?”
“Tell me about it. Things have been getting harder lately. Might as well just stream shows online. Last time I made millions from just a half-day stream.”
“Wonder how many people we’ll catch this time. Warship energy stones…”
Three people wearing energy suits entered the room. Mid-conversation, they stopped abruptly upon noticing the broken safes.
“Something’s up.” All three shouted in unison, their energy suits flaring to life with a faint glow.
“Quickly check if the energy stones are gone. That’s most of our fortune right there.” One of the three stepped outside while another shouted. All their faces were concealed, fully covered by helmets.
Yang Bo cursed inwardly, ‘No wonder I didn’t have time to slip out. They’re superhumans! Damn it, who’s supplying these pirates with such high-end military gear? Damn it all to the Parliament. Maybe these pirates are just backed by some wealthy conglomerate.’
