Chapter 78: What a World
by xennovel“None missing!” The person checking quickly opened several other safes. They were filled with the same stuff.
Yang Bo took a sharp breath. There were so many. Who’s got the guts to do this?
“Take them away quickly.” Hearing this, the companion hurriedly shouted.
“No way. We need to find the person first, otherwise I’ll be exposed. My whole family is at risk. If they track my movements, they can trace the Energy Stones’ source.” The man inside quickly replied.
“The cut was just made. They can’t have gone far. Hurry up.” The person inside carefully examined the cut on the safe, urging them.
“Move the goods first. This stuff is most of what we brothers own.” The one at the door disagreed, speaking loudly.
Someone outside shouted, “There are some traces here. Not sure what they’re from.”
Yang Bo was speechless. It was probably where he’d been training the mecha earlier…
“Go report to the boss. We’ll search for the person first.”
“Take the Energy Stones first. Maybe they’ll come back for them. Those traces on the ground were likely left when they planned to move the Energy Stones with equipment but ran when they noticed us.”
“Which is why we need to find the person!”
Hearing the heated argument outside, Yang Bo stealthily snuck out, planning to escape.
“No way. We can’t leave anyone on the ship. We’ll take the Escape Pod and blow up this transport ship. Otherwise, our supply route will be exposed.”
“Sounds good. We’ll throw the Energy Stones in the Escape Pod too.”
Yang Bo was about to leave but hearing this, he immediately reconsidered. If these guys really did that, he’d be dead meat.
Cursing them in his mind for courting death, he went back into the small room.
The two finally agreed. They’d take the Energy Stones and skip searching for the person.
“Go find a transport vehicle. I’ll start moving the stuff outside.”
One of them came in to move the Energy Stones. The container could block detection of the stone’s energy fluctuations.
Just as the person was about to open the safe, they froze. “A floating, naked man?” Suddenly, everything went black as an energy weapon was just a millimeter in front of their helmet’s visor.
Warship Repair +8!
Yang Bo’s hands trembled slightly as he quickly stripped the person’s armor off, stuffing them into the locker meant for uniforms. He morphed his energy weapon to resemble the other’s, tore off a strand of hair, and silently activated Camouflage.
Looking at himself, he had changed! He then put on the other person’s armor, tossing the door of the safe he’d cut earlier near the locker to cover it.
“Need a hand?” The one fetching the transport vehicle returned and asked.
“Yeah.” Yang Bo gave a short reply, as both of them started loading. A full hundred pieces.
After they finished loading, Yang Bo had the other person operate the vehicle. He hadn’t decided what to do next. Go with these guys onto the pirate’s warship? “Might not be a bad idea—at least I’d be safe,” Yang Bo thought, regretting it a bit. He didn’t expect any internal traitors here. No wonder the pirates could control this transport ship. It was too easy for a mechanic to sabotage it.
Soon, two mechas and four people in energy suits met up with Yang Bo’s group, escorting the goods.
Yang Bo didn’t know where they were going. After half an hour, since everyone was a Genetic Evolver, they moved quickly. Regular people would struggle to navigate an 18-kilometer-long, several-hundred-meter-tall warship on foot.
“What is this?” When Yang Bo emerged from a passage, he saw what looked like a stadium laid out before him. In the center crouched quite a few people, surrounded by twelve mechas and about twenty others…
Yang Bo had no idea what to do next. From afar, he saw someone sitting on the stands. “The pirate leader?” he thought in surprise.
“Ahem!” Yang Bo saw the person who had come with him go up to speak with the pirate leader. He coughed and used Sonic Detection to listen to what they were saying.
“Don’t let him leave. Just kill him. This so-called ‘good brother’ has made a fortune off us for years. Once we’re out, I’ll send a message, and his entire family will disappear.” The pirate leader whispered. Though they were hundreds of meters away and speaking very softly, Yang Bo still heard, as his sound manipulation had reached grandmaster level.
Yang Bo’s face turned green. Damn, his luck was awful. He’d just been thinking about sneaking aboard the enemy’s warship to find an escape.
At that moment, the mecha pilot who had come with them stepped out and headed toward a nearby passage.
“I’ll go too!” Seeing the sign indicating it was the restroom, Yang Bo quickly called out and followed.
Yang Bo thought the pirates might be suspicious, but they weren’t. Since pirates spent so much time together, their relationships were solid, like sworn brothers.
Splat! As soon as they entered the restroom, Yang Bo’s energy weapon swung down, killing the other pilot.
Mecha Piloting +8!
“We’ll see who gets the last laugh!” Yang Bo cursed as he bolted back to where they’d moved the goods. He put the armor back on the dead guy, then released an electric charge, turning the body into charcoal to destroy any evidence. Otherwise, if they found out about the death too soon, they might figure out his ability. This way, they’d think the guy had come back for something and got ambushed.
What Yang Bo didn’t know was that about ten minutes after he left, the person who was planning to kill the one he was impersonating came looking. Puzzled by the delay, they decided to check the restroom, planning to follow the boss’ order to take him out.
But when they entered, they found the mecha pilot dead, hacked to pieces.
“That traitorous bastard!” The boss went hysterical in the restroom. A mecha pilot, and a good brother to boot! The worst part was, each mecha had its own customized settings, like habits and command programs. While the pirate crew didn’t have codes like that, using someone else’s mecha was really inconvenient.
“Boss, kill that traitor first!”
“Boss, he knows too much.”
“Yeah, boss.”
“Leave three mechas and five men. Everyone else, we must find that bastard! If necessary, clear every compartment one by one and toss these scumbags into space.” The boss gritted his teeth. “That’s a good plan, boss.”
Yang Bo arrived at the cargo bay, a massive area piled high with goods. The cargo floated because they were in space, and the bay was enormous, with a spiral staircase winding around it. The elevator wasn’t usable, so robots usually handled the cargo.
“Better find a container to hide in.” Yang Bo planned to look for a spot to lie low for now.
Yang Bo heard voices arguing nearby. Annoyed, he moved away from them.
“What the hell!” Using Metal Superpower, Yang Bo randomly opened a container and was dumbfounded.
It was full of energy weapons, all fixed to racks inside the container. Among them, Yang Bo immediately noticed a suit of armor he’d seen in the energy weapon store.
“Haha! Talk about a stroke of luck!” Yang Bo rushed in, ready to grab the armor. It was a real treasure!
