Chapter Index

“We’ve found it. The target joined a company, but it’s a private business. Here’s the company’s details.” A blonde young man took out a document and spoke.

The bald man looked at the paper and immediately realized the gravity of the situation. As he opened it, he sucked in a sharp breath. “It’s that company?”

“Yes, Supervisor. Anzije Service Company. One of the three big players in the grey market. They often handle inconvenient problems for celebrities, politicians, and the rich, but they don’t touch anything truly illegal.” The young man explained.

“What are you doing, then? When did the target start showing unusual reactions?” The Supervisor felt his scalp go numb as he heard that. You never know who might be backing someone who does dirty work for politicians.

“The target was rated as low priority. His medical report from six months ago came up clean. In another three months, when he turns 20, we’d stop monitoring him altogether. If his wristwatch hadn’t lost tracking data, none of us would have seen any of this coming.” The young man calmly explained.

The bald man asked again, “How successful was the experiment batch back then?”

“Not at all. Zero success rate. However, the mortality rate hit 12.4%.” The young man shook his head, replying.

The bald man looked at the virtual image of Yang Bo, stretched out his hand, and a series of data appeared. He noticed that over 50% of the data showed red.

The bald man felt a headache coming on. The red data signified that this person’s current state differed drastically from before. As for the remaining green data, that only reflected ordinary wristwatch metrics like heart rate and pulse.

At this moment, the young man spoke, “There is some good news: the target hasn’t yet signed a formal contract with Anzije. His trial period ends tomorrow.”

“Find a way to stop him from taking the job. Get me a plan, fast.” The Supervisor said immediately upon hearing this.

“Understood.” The young man swiftly left to prepare.

The bald man kept staring at the virtual image of Yang Bo, then shifted his gaze to the glaringly red data. He frowned deeply. Based on the statistics, the target’s frequency of speech had dropped significantly, almost to zero, meaning he barely spoke at all in his room.

“Something’s off.” The bald man watched Yang Bo quietly work. Even though Yang Bo cleaned the room following the AI system’s recommendations, something still seemed wrong.

The AI system flagged the carpet over five times for potential hazards, yet the target didn’t replace it. That wasn’t normal. Highly abnormal.

The bald man scrutinized Yang Bo’s current data but found no signs that he was undergoing any gene evolution.

“Should we stage an accident to get him to the hospital for a full scan? The government-provided equipment isn’t capable of detecting energy?” The bald man rubbed his chin thoughtfully. The government’s equipment was under strict regulation, so it lacked energy detection functions.

While working at home, Yang Bo forced himself to stay calm. In his previous life, he had done far more harsh jobs for others, eventually becoming a bit numb. Now, he clung to this numb mindset.

After tidying up, Yang Bo grabbed a chair and sat by the floor-to-ceiling window. He gazed at the skyport above that resembled a brilliant, ring-shaped jewel.

His mind wandered to what Wu Bing had said earlier today. How dark could this world get? What kind of creatures might be lurking within the stars? However, Yang Bo didn’t bother searching for what Wu Bing suggested. In his previous world, even simple searches could get flagged by certain agencies, let alone in this one.

He also pondered the abilities he had acquired: “Killing ordinary animals gives me +1. That mutant fish was D-rank and gave +4. Does that mean ordinary creatures add 1, E-rank adds 2, D-rank adds 4, and C-rank adds 8, doubling each time?”

“I should test this out sometime. Also, is my transmigration benefit incomplete, or have I just not unlocked it fully yet?”

“How do I develop my transmigration benefit?” Yang Bo continued to calculate in his mind.

“And what’s with this ‘Gene Evolution Ancient Martial Arts’ thing?”

“I’ll need to ask about it tomorrow.” With so many thoughts on his mind, Yang Bo couldn’t fall asleep.

The Bald Supervisor also couldn’t sleep. He reviewed the proposal on his desk. Due to confidentiality, many documents here were hand-written, as the internet left too many traces.

“This plan won’t work.” The bald man looked at the young man and shook his head.

Hearing this, the young man spoke up, “Based on big data, the target only cares about gaming and the actress Li Aidu. His biggest dream is to buy a robot modeled after her.”

“But the gaming industry is dominated by companies ranked higher than ours. That’s not something we can touch. We’ll have to go after that actress.” The young man continued.

The bald man looked at the games Yang Bo liked. They were made by a subsidiary of one of the top ten global corporations. This company was so powerful that any automated filming equipment would blur their game images to avoid lawsuits. Failure to do so would result in instant bankruptcy.

The bald man felt chills running down his spine. This was now a question of meddling with an entertainment company, way outside his jurisdiction. After some thought, he asked, “What if we just orchestrate an accident?”

“It can be done, but the cost will be high.”

“However, Supervisor, if anything goes wrong, our entire department will be held accountable. The earlier plan needs upper management approval…” The young man said in a low voice.

Hearing this, the bald man was startled. A company is a company, but employees are just employees. If something really happened, the company wouldn’t take responsibility. He would bear all the blame.

“Moreover, Supervisor, the target’s abnormal behavior isn’t directly related to us, but if an accident occurs and the company gets dragged in, will the higher-ups let us take the fall?” The young man continued.

“I’ll report it right away.” The Bald Supervisor acknowledged the young man’s concerns.

Yang Bo lay restlessly in bed. He had too much to process today, and his room no longer felt like home. It was more like a prison.

The next day, Yang Bo, feeling drained, went to the Company. Wu Bing took Yang Bo to a room, but before stepping inside, asked him to remove his wristwatch.

“Have you considered it? I can lend you some money to buy a place.” Wu Bing got straight to the point, noticing Yang Bo looked a bit pale.

“Wu Ge, some of what you said is hard to believe. You claimed those celebrities and politicians don’t have chips. But how can they not be gene-evolved?” Yang Bo rubbed his forehead, asking.

Wu Bing shook his head, “Of course not. They’re all very powerful.”

“Then how did they become gene-evolved?” That was the question Yang Bo truly wanted answered.

“Yang Bo, you’ve misunderstood something. Who says they need biological chips? Can’t they just use gene injections?” Wu Bing laughed.

Yang Bo was dumbfounded. How had he not thought of that? “There are many ways they become gene-evolved. The first is using gene injections. The second is through ancient martial arts. And the third is through certain Secret Techniques.”

“Gene injections are a given. Those big-name politicians are definitely using ones made by their own families.”

“Isn’t it illegal to manufacture gene injections privately?”

“Manufacturing gene injections isn’t illegal. Selling them for profit is. What’s illegal is if they cause harm to others. It’s not illegal to make them for personal use.” Wu Bing continued explaining.
