Chapter 95: Not Optimistic
by xennovel“What a jinx!” Yang Bo returned to his room, sitting there in a daze, feeling like a thousand alpacas trampled through his mind.
The people under Red Earl had a unique aura, just like those stiff Western noble butlers you see on Earth. It didn’t matter how the butler dressed; once he stood there, you’d know he belonged to a noble!
Even though Yang Bo didn’t want to believe there were Red Earl’s men aboard the Alliance warship, the last time he killed a Red Earl subordinate, all the skills gained were related to warship repairs! “There’s a 99% chance these people are Red Earl’s men, this is too unlucky. I hope they’re just in hiding and not planning something!” Yang Bo had no solution. How tight was the internal defense of such a warship?
Just looking at those laser cannons would tell you. And then there were these strangers living here!
“If I had known, I wouldn’t have left Pado Planet. What kind of things have I encountered along this journey? On Pado Planet, I could have run to the outskirts if something happened, but this warship is only so big. What will I do then?”
“Maybe Red Earl’s men are just lying low for now and won’t do anything!”
“Or maybe my Camouflage was too good. Just one glance and I could tell those guys had Red Earl’s aura!”
“What rotten luck!” Forget even playing games. Just sitting here felt like something could happen at any moment, but there was no way to move around. There had to be surveillance in the room.
After about an hour of sitting on pins and needles, Yang Bo made a bold decision: “I’ll go out using my invisibility. As long as I don’t enter the core areas of the warship, the defense detection systems shouldn’t be too crazy. Plus, it’s a chance to test my invisibility!”
Yang Bo glanced at the door, opening it first. Then he went out, found a book, and came back to sit and read.
This was all for show. The book in his hands turned out to be about plants, describing all sorts of different species.
Forcing himself to calm down, Yang Bo read while thinking, What should I do if there are indeed too many of Red Earl’s people? Based on his analysis, they wouldn’t stir trouble right away since they had infiltrated the army with such difficulty. Still, this made him worry more about the Alliance. If the army was infiltrated, what about the government?
“The situation on Pado Planet must be problematic!” At this point, Yang Bo was more convinced than ever that Red Earl’s people were in the army. If they were in the military, then the government would be easier to infiltrate.
For two days, Yang Bo left his door open and sat reading for a few hours. On the third day, he left the door half-open, making it seem like he was inside reading. Then he entered the restroom, leaving his energy suit in the mech space. He didn’t plan on taking it with him, choosing to go invisible as he was—naked.
Yang Bo gradually turned invisible, slipping out. There were no unusual signs, so he continued towards the passage guarded by soldiers.
The passage’s door was closed, but from Yang Bo’s surveillance, he knew the soldiers should soon switch shifts. True enough, after waiting a few minutes, the soldiers swapped shifts. Yang Bo seized the moment to follow the outgoing soldiers.
The soldiers were most likely going to eat. Each shift break lasted about thirty minutes, and after that, these soldiers returned to their posts.
Entering the passage, Yang Bo noticed the metallic walls gleaming silver under the lights.
Following two soldiers, he indeed arrived at the dining hall, where hundreds of people were eating.
At this point, Yang Bo watched as the soldiers removed their helmets. Their appearances varied; not all were handsome men or beautiful women. Gene enhancement had uncontrollable elements too. Just like his boss’s chubby frame and bald head—if you enhance the wrong genes, you might just strengthen your trait to be bald or fat.
Most of them were handsome and beautiful, though: blond beauties with golden or white skin, looking very pleasing to the eyes.
Yang Bo carefully observed the dining hall. It was about ten meters high and housed several laser cannons. He casually moved around the hall.
“Five percent of the people here are Red Earl’s men!” Yang Bo could immediately discern them, carefully checking the ratio of Red Earl’s members.
Somehow, there were a lot of red-haired and blond-haired people, taking up about half of the room. But Yang Bo instantly recognized them.
Even though many of them had red or blonde hair, they couldn’t hide their aura. Just sitting there with ordinary movements, Yang Bo could feel they were Red Earl’s people.
Yang Bo walked over to two soldiers with higher ranks. They were eating and chatting. “Have you ever seen so many civilians rescued along the way? Later, we’ll have to send them back, which will give us a lot more work!” said one.
“Yeah, and we don’t even know what mission we’re going on this time. The higher-ups aren’t telling us anything, leaving us completely in the dark.”
“With such a massive formation and maintaining complete communication silence, the mission must be high-level.”
“I have no idea, and there’s been no official briefing. I was just ordered onboard by notification. The rush suggests something sudden happened, and the destination is still unclear!”
“Who cares? With our fleet configuration, we could take on any other country!”
“Those civilians have terrible luck, running into the Silver Moon Pirates. But the Chief Magistrate from March Planet is really impressive, dealing with the pirate crew single-handedly!”
“Pirate groups are like rats. If we could find them, any one of our warships could wipe them out in an instant!”
“Exactly. Pirates thrive on their ability to hide. But I heard this operation involves immigration policies on two administrative planets!”
“It’s probably those corporate conglomerates in Parliament behind this. If the pirates didn’t have their backing, they’d have been wiped out long ago!”
“I even heard some pirates work directly for certain organizations, specifically stealing strategic supplies!”
“Don’t talk like that! Be careful!”
After overhearing the conversation, Yang Bo became even more uneasy. What secret mission was this? He continued observing the mess hall. It was simple and metallic, nothing fancy.
However, the place had everything required: music, entertainment facilities, and even the soldiers’ meals were all pre-cooked dishes.
After following two soldiers back through the passage, Yang Bo returned to his room, reflecting on everything he’d seen. For now, he had no better ideas. He would have to keep scouting during meal times, following soldiers to familiarize himself with the surroundings.
