Chapter Index

“What? No way, my mother is still in the city—I have to get back!” Gu Xiaoyao was shaken to the core by that voice. He spun around, ready to leave at once.

Bai Ting bit her lip. “Young Master Gu, please take me with you. I want to avenge my father!”

“Alright.” Without hesitation, Gu Xiaoyao grabbed Bai Ting and, under the gaze of a million eyes, soared away on his sword, disappearing from sight in a flash.

    Meanwhile, at Sky Sword City.

Qatar and Duersa, leading three hundred thousand elite Demon Race soldiers, had traveled two days and nights without rest to reach Sky Sword City, the fortress crowned with a towering sword that seemed to pierce the heavens.

Qatar gazed at the vast city before him, barely able to contain his excitement. Sensing the area, he discovered that the strongest cultivator here was only at the Sword Emperor Realm—this was almost too easy.

Glancing back at the warriors behind him, Qatar felt a surge of confidence. Out of all of them, two hundred ninety thousand were late-stage Demon Monarch Realm, and the remaining ten thousand were Demon Sovereign Realm, either early or middle stage. He and Duersa themselves stood at the peak of the Demon Sovereign Realm.

Seeing it this way, victory was already in hand. This city looked like easy pickings. Qatar clenched his fist and reached out toward the mighty walls.

The guards of Sky Sword City had long noticed the overwhelming forces bearing down on them. Huddled in corners, they trembled in fear.

A heavy bell tolled throughout the city, again and again, each strike signaling the imminent invasion—this was a fight for survival.

Citizens rushed up to the inner walls, weapons drawn, ready to resist the invaders. But when they saw the wave of black-clad, hulking demons looming overhead, their courage faltered.

Far off on the horizon, darkness swallowed the sky. The air was thick with dread and the stench of death, muffled cries echoing in the gloom.

The residents and defenders of Sky Sword City had never witnessed such a terrifying sight. Bodies shook from fear, some almost turning to flee. But when they remembered their waiting families and children, they steeled themselves and stood their ground.

Qatar’s eyes turned icy cold and a wicked smile crept across his face. “So scared, yet you still dare to face us? Ha! Attack!”

At his command, the Demon Race surged forward. The seemingly impenetrable city walls crumbled to dust as if they were nothing, leaving only the main gate standing amidst the swirling smoke.

With all obstacles swept aside, the horde of demons stormed in like shadows, only to slam into a majestic barrier that stood as tall as the heavens.

A voice split the skies, booming for all to hear.

“You demons think you can bully the Human Race just because we seem weak? You brought such numbers—do you really think that highly of me, Li?” Slowly, Li Jiantian revealed himself, stepping out into the open.

“It’s the City Lord!” Relief spread through the crowd. Their backbone had arrived.

A squad leader among the Demons shouted angrily, “Just a worthless human! No need for everyone to step in—I’ll handle him myself! Watch me take his head!”

He burst forth with all the power of an early-stage Demon Sovereign, flipping his wrist to brandish a vicious, fanged blade. With a roar, he charged at Li Jiantian.

In front of hundreds of thousands of eyes, Li Jiantian moved. In an instant, he vanished—then reappeared, his hand locked around the demon’s throat. One defiant roar later, he crushed him completely.

“You call me trash? But from where I’m standing, none of you look much better!” Li Jiantian hovered in the air, eyes narrowed, scanning the horde below.

Dozens of demon captains roared in fury. “Arrogant human! We’ll use your blood to celebrate our victory!”

Wings unfurled, radiating the power of the Demon Sovereign Realm, they charged Li Jiantian as one.

A defense commander from Sky Sword City called out, “Brothers, with the City Lord—charge!”

His rallying cry was answered by tens of thousands of cultivators throughout the city. Swords drawn, they leapt into battle, following Li Jiantian’s lead.

But the difference in strength was overwhelming. What followed was a massacre. Even with all their strength, two dozen Sword Sea Realm cultivators could only bring down a single Demon Monarch soldier—at the cost of their lives.

The demons outmatched them in every way—number, power, even size. Swords failed to make even a scratch, and the defenders died with regrets left unspoken.

The fighting ended as the last cultivator, surrounded and bleeding from a dozen wounds, finally collapsed.

With that, all resistance in Sky Sword City was crushed. Only Li Jiantian remained, gravely wounded and unable to move.

Corpses littered the field, blood gushing from fresh wounds as guts and brains spilled across the ground. None of them had died with peace.

A demon commander pressed a razor-sharp axe against Li Jiantian’s throat, voice dripping with menace. “Give it up, human. Resistance is pointless—surrender or die!”

Li Jiantian smiled calmly. “My Li family may have its faults, but we’ve never bred cowards. You want me to surrender? I’d sooner be shattered to dust as an honest man. Go ahead—do it!”

A faint smile lingered on his face as he closed his eyes, waiting for death.

“Had your chance to surrender, but you chose death instead—I’ll grant your wish!” The commander spat, raised his axe, and swung it down.

“Stop right there! Demons, how dare you slaughter my people—are you actually looking for death?”

The mighty voice echoed like thunder—impossible to deny. In that same instant, the demon’s axe shattered in midair.

Staring at the broken blade in shock, the commander stammered, “Who’s playing tricks? Show yourself!”

While he looked around, Gu Xiaoyao and Bai Ting suddenly appeared. Gu Xiaoyao stepped forward and with one move, the commander’s head tumbled from his shoulders.

“Miss Bai, take him and get treatment. Leave the rest to me.” Gu Xiaoyao gently handed the battered Li Jiantian to Bai Ting.

Bai Ting took the weakened Li Jiantian and hurried away. Still, she looked back anxiously. “Alright. Young Master Gu, please be careful.”

“Ha! They’re the ones who should be afraid. I’ll use them to unveil my newest sword technique! Extinction Sword!” Gu Xiaoyao roared, summoning a sword of blood-red steel blazing with murderous intent.

The surrounding demons went wide-eyed with rage. “Arrogant brat! We’ll crush you and offer your bones as a stepping stone to our triumph!”

A hundred thousand Demon Monarchs surged at once, unleashing their strongest moves as they swept down like a tidal wave of darkness.

“Extinction Sword, First Form: Crossing Into the Afterlife.” Calm as ever, Gu Xiaoyao traced two fingers down his blade. Crimson mist exploded outward.

A colossal blood-red sword swept down from the sky, its light blazing brighter than the sun. In that moment, a hundred thousand demon warriors dissolved into dust, their wails lost in the wind.
