Chapter 124: Peril on All Sides
by xennovelXie Jinxuan flew into a rage, his eyes blazing. “Damn you, Demon Race! Get away from my sister, now!”
His sword flashed, cleaving the Demon before him clean in two. Blood red anger filled his gaze as he let out a furious roar, unleashing the full force of his Sword Emperor Realm, eighth level. Gripping his blade tight, he charged straight for Mo Yi.
Mo Yi, caught off guard, nearly took a sword through the chest before he managed to raise an arm in defense, only to be violently kicked back several steps.
Seeing this, the other Demon commanders turned their blades and charged, determined to end the Xie siblings here and now. The Human warriors rushed in right after, sparking a fierce and chaotic chase.
On the sidelines, Xie Lingtian realized disaster was looming. He leapt forward to help his children break free. “Jinxuan, Wanyi, don’t be afraid! Your father is here!”
But Brunn and Bulin, two mighty Demon Sovereigns, blocked his path, sneering with thinly veiled disdain.
“Human Emperor, you aren’t going anywhere today. Be smart and surrender—save yourself some pain!”
“Jinxuan, let me handle things here. Get Wanyi out of danger!” With a shout, Xie Lingtian drew the Imperial Sword and threw himself into battle against the Demon Sovereigns.
Taking the chance, Xie Jinxuan hurriedly led his wounded sister away from the fray, asking in a rush, “Wanyi, are you alright? Tell me you’re okay!”
Wanyi’s voice trembled with guilt and tears. “Brother, I’m fine, but so many Human lives were lost because of me. They died for my sake.”
Jinxuan let out a long, heavy sigh. “Wanyi, pull yourself together. This is their duty, not your fault, and now is not the time to lose yourself in guilt. The fight isn’t over yet!”
“We have to get back and help Father, quickly!”
Wanyi wiped her tears away and nodded hard, determination shining in her eyes. The siblings had just turned to leave when a voice thundered from above, freezing them in their tracks.
“Hahaha! Where do you think you’re going? Allow me to send you to the Yellow Springs myself!”
Mo Yi’s shadowy figure emerged from the void, eyes glinting with mocking amusement as he sized the pair up.
Xie Jinxuan’s pupils shrank. “This isn’t good. Wanyi, run! I’ll hold him off. Use this chance to escape!”
“No, Brother! I’m staying and fighting by your side. I refuse to be a coward!” Wanyi glared at Mo Yi, gripping her sword tight with fierce resolve.
“Not bad. I admire your spirit. As a reward, I’ll make sure you die painlessly.” Mo Yi’s right hand shifted, summoning the Ninefold Wolf-tooth Club from thin air.
“Well, let’s see you both off, then!”
Mo Yi’s face twisted with ferocity, his weapon radiating a dreadful, overpowering aura. Black energy poured from the club in waves.
In a blink, Mo Yi shot forward like a bolt of black lightning. Xie Jinxuan’s eyes went wide with shock; gritting his teeth, he raised his sword and charged to meet the blow.
Steel met steel as sword and Ninefold Wolf-tooth Club clashed, sparks bursting between them. Both fighters bared their teeth in determined snarls, hands tightening on their weapons, not giving an inch.
Suddenly Jinxuan’s eyes widened—he felt his sword straining, as if it could barely hold up against the crushing pressure.
Mo Yi caught the subtle change in Jinxuan’s expression and a crooked smile played on his lips. The muscles in his arm bulged, strength pouring into his weapon.
Jinxuan knew his sword was reaching its limit, dread seeping in.
With a sickening crack, his sword suddenly split in two, shattering right as panic took hold.
“Looks like even fate’s on my side—give up already!” Mo Yi laughed maniacally, swinging the Ninefold Wolf-tooth Club with brutal force.
Jinxuan didn’t stand a chance. The blow crashed into his stomach, sending him flying over ten meters before he managed to plant the broken hilt in the ground and barely slow his fall.
He clutched his abdomen, staggering, then suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood. Mo Yi’s twisted grin only grew wider at the sight.
Bringing the club up, Mo Yi advanced on him step by step. Wanyi leapt in front of her brother, both hands gripping her blade as she blocked his path.
“If you want to hurt my brother, you’ll have to step over my corpse! As long as I draw breath, you’re not taking another step closer!”
Xie Jinxuan managed a weak protest. “Wanyi, don’t be reckless. You can’t beat him! Run, I can still fight!”
Mo Yi ignored his words entirely, striding straight up to them. Wanyi gritted her teeth, swinging her sword down at him.
He didn’t even bother dodging. Mo Yi caught the blade with one hand, crushed it to scrap without care, then casually kicked Wanyi hard in the stomach. He turned away, voice dripping with scorn.
“How disappointing. I thought you two would give me at least a little fun, but you’re so weak I barely have the urge to kill you.”
Wanyi struggled back to her feet, eyes locked on Mo Yi in pure defiance. She clutched her stomach, and another mouthful of blood burst from her lips.
………………
Elsewhere, Xie Lingtian had exchanged hundreds of blows with Brunn and Bulin. But even he began to tire as time wore on. The Human side, once fifteen million strong, had now lost two-thirds of its force.
The Demons, by contrast, had only sacrificed a third and now held all the momentum.
Brunn and Bulin looked at the exhausted Xie Lingtian with a trace of respect.
“Emperor of the Humans, you’re truly impressive. It’s been ages since we’ve had such an entertaining fight.”
“You’re the first to last this long against the both of us together. If possible, I’d actually like to spare your life.”
“But our races are buried in hatred and bloodshed—one must die so the other may live. It’s unfortunate, but this ending is inevitable. I can only send you on your way!”
“Farewell, Human Emperor!” Brunn raised his blade, eyes filled with a flicker of regret, before his gaze cooled and he swung it down to take Xie Lingtian’s head.
