Chapter 64: Murong Qingxue Saves the Day Once More
by xennovelThe room was simply furnished, but it felt warm and welcoming.
“Tea from the outside world really does taste different,” Murong Qingxue murmured, eyes closed as she savored a sip from her cup. A soft smile curved her lips, filling her face with a quiet happiness. “This tea is refreshing, it clears the mind.”
“Its sweet fragrance lingers between my lips and teeth,” she sighed contentedly. “Yes, truly good tea.”
Suddenly her expression shifted. “Not good! Something’s happened.” Murong Qingxue felt the brocade pouch she’d given Gu Qingyi activate—she knew at once he was in danger.
She set down her cup and vanished into the void. In the blink of an eye, she crossed more than a hundred thousand miles.
In just a few breaths, she arrived at Gu Qingyi’s location.
Murong Qingxue gazed down from above.
Below her, devastation stretched as far as the eye could see. The once unbroken land was now completely ruined, littered with enormous craters. The trees that once stood tall were reduced to ash.
A few gnarled stumps were all that remained.
Shattered swords and broken limbs lay everywhere. The earth itself was stained deep red with blood.
Murong Qingxue swept her gaze across the chaos.
Finally, she spotted Gu Qingyi atop a dried-up lakebed, half-sunk in mud and completely unconscious.
“How did you end up hurt this badly again?” Murong Qingxue sighed, exasperation clear in her voice as she descended softly next to him.
“There’s not a single uninjured spot on you. You nearly died from blood loss alone.” She scanned him using her spiritual sense, shocked by how close he’d come to death—and quickly got to work healing him.
Not long after Nangong Lin and the others were dragged away, they felt the ground tremble beneath their feet.
Where Gu Qingyi had been, sand and stones whipped into the air, countless flying swords seemed to fill the sky.
A massive tornado rose, pulling even shattered branches high above.
Nangong Lin wanted to run back at once, but the others held her tightly. Her desperation turned to tears.
Gu Qingxiao watched Nangong Lin’s heartbreak and could only shake her head helplessly. She wanted to help too, but against such danger, there was nothing she could do.
If they went back now, it would be like throwing eggs at a rock—pointless and fatal. They’d only be adding more bodies to the count.
“My brother risked his life to clear a path for us. If… if he didn’t make it—” Gu Qingxiao saw the group’s spirits falling. Forcing herself to stay strong, she reassured them, “Running back there now would just mean throwing your life away!”
“We can’t let his sacrifice be in vain.” Gu Qingxiao closed her eyes, voice heavy. “And I believe my brother has fate on his side.”
“He’ll be fine!” Gu Qingxiao clenched her fists, turning away sharply.
“That’s right, he’ll be okay.” The others echoed the sentiment, trying to comfort themselves. “Maybe he’ll catch up to us any minute now.”
“Finally out of danger, but it took a fair bit out of me,” Murong Qingxue took a deep breath, relieved to have dragged Gu Qingyi back from death’s door.
Gu Qingyi’s body was a tapestry of wounds, his clothes in tatters. Only his ruined outfit told the story of his ordeal—his wounds had all healed.
“Am I in heaven already?” Gu Qingyi’s lashes fluttered as he slowly opened his eyes, staring up at the blue sky and drifting clouds. “It looks kind of beautiful,” he muttered.
“Heaven, my foot. Stop daydreaming.” Murong Qingxue heard his words and scolded him with a sharp slap, snapping him fully awake.
“Miss Murong, you came to heaven too?” Gu Qingyi looked bewildered, staring at the ethereal beauty before him like she’d stepped straight out of a dream. “Or am I dreaming this?” He rubbed his cheek, baffled. “This dream feels a bit too real…”
………………….
“I didn’t even finish my tea, just rushed all the way here to save you!” Murong Qingxue shot Gu Qingyi a weary look, shaking her head. “Don’t be stupid, you’re not dead yet.” She turned away. “It’s me. I saved you again, same as last time.”
“You really are something. This is twice now and you’re still kicking.” She gave Gu Qingyi a thorough once-over, as if she couldn’t figure out how he kept surviving.
“I see… Thank you, senior, for saving my life—again!” Gu Qingyi scratched his head, embarrassed and at a loss for words.
Murong Qingxue pressed a hand to her forehead, sighing. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading back. My tea’s probably still hot.”
“Senior, I need to get to Xuanwu City too. Could I come along?” Gu Qingyi suddenly remembered and gave Murong Qingxue a hopeful look. “There are a few others with me as well.”
“Fine, fine,” Murong Qingxue relented, gathering Gu Qingyi up. In a flash, the two of them appeared before Nangong Lin and the others.
Everyone stared in astonishment at the two figures floating in the air, their eyes darting between Gu Qingyi and Murong Qingxue.
“She really does look like a goddess come down to earth, all in white. Her beauty takes your breath away. Her features are so perfectly sculpted, as if crafted by the hands of an artist. Her brows swept gracefully like distant hills, her eyes sparkled with star-like brilliance. Her nose was delicate, her jawline graceful—it all framed her face with such perfection.” The sight of Murong Qingxue left everyone awestruck.
“Sister Murong, what brings you here?” Nangong Lin looked at Murong Qingxue, who once seemed aloof and otherworldly. Now, as she warmed to life among mortals, her once-cold face held a bright vitality that made her even more striking.
“Oh, I just thought the house felt a bit stuffy,” Murong Qingxue waved her hand airily, “so I decided to step out for a stroll.”
Nangong Lin asked tentatively, “Sister Murong, could you take us home?”
“Of course,” Murong Qingxue glanced at Nangong Lin, her voice gentle. “Come with me, all of you.”
Everyone grinned. “Great! Thank you, Sister Murong.”
After some quick greetings, Murong Qingxue whisked the group away in an instant, bringing them safely back to Xuanwu City.
