Chapter 14: Genius!
by xennovelLu Yu turned his head and saw two “familiar faces”.
One was the talent who had previously delivered a love letter to him under the peach tree and was scared off in the end. He hadn’t looked closely last time, but upon seeing her again, he found her quite stunning. Without any makeup, she exuded a natural radiance, with willow-like brows and eyes that reflected kindness. Her beauty was only slightly less than that of the Student Council President and Little Spider.
The other was the round-faced girl he had seen before, riding a Snow Wolf. Her appearance was sweet, but sadly quite plain for such a young age.
It was she who spoke, having overheard Lu Yu’s words as she passed by. Her beautiful eyebrows were knit tightly, and her expression conveyed a bit of dissatisfaction.
However, after a second of pause, Lu Yu’s gaze moved on and he turned his head away without any intention of engaging in conversation.
He had sized up this woman in an instant – she was looking for trouble, just like a little boy who pulls on a girl’s braids to get attention.
Women are emotional, and in the end, they might deal with things emotionally.
Therefore, arguing is pointless.
The best approach is to ignore them from the start.
“You…”
The round-faced girl saw that Lu Yu was ignoring her, which triggered the same arrogance she used to see in him, and a wave of nameless anger rose in her heart.
She clenched her fists tightly, and the talent beside her quickly held her back, whispering to her quietly in persuasion:
“Sister Yao Yao, don’t be angry. Lu Yu just has his own opinions. It’s not intentional against your brother!”
Her name was Fang Yao, and Fang Yun on the stage was her brother.
“Yu Xi Yan, it’s not like I’m going to start a fight. Besides, you’re not his girlfriend, what’s the hurry in defending him!”
Her words left the talent dumbfounded, as she blushed and frantically waved her hands, saying, “No… I mean… I just don’t want you guys to fight…”
Her voice faded to a mosquito’s whine by the end.
Watching her best friend embarrass herself, Fang Yao felt a mix of frustration and pity. She then turned to Lu Yu and spoke firmly:
“Don’t be so smug just because you got full marks on your tactical theory class. Reality and theory are completely different. Battles are ever-changing, and if you can’t adapt, you’ll always be all talk and no action.
My brother’s Stink Centipede is already pressuring from a distance, and as long as we play it steady and maintain the distance, we can win.”
Her words fell on deaf ears.
Lu Yu had long passed the age where he liked to show off in front of women, and there were no laws saying predictions couldn’t be made from the sidelines. Having determined the outcome, there was no need to stick around any longer, so he prepared to turn and leave.
“Pfft, posturing!”
Fang Yao, seeing Lu Yu’s silent retort, lost interest in continuing the conversation and even sighed in disappointment.
The once genius had not only given up on the limitless path of a beast tamer but also foolishly chose to raise pigs. Now, he had become someone who sought attention through eccentricity.
He didn’t even have the courage to argue with her face to face and was putting on an air of arrogance, which caused her a touch of melancholy. The slight affection she once had was completely snuffed out, and she was reminded of a line she once read in a book:
“Every person is born a king, but most perish in exile.”
To her, the man before her may possess an almost perfect form, but his soul had already decayed.
She knew how her best friend’s beauty could bewitch men, but she was too naive. She had to make sure to protect her and absolutely not let her continue interacting with Lu Yu, lest she fall into a fire pit later on.
So, she planned to make Yu Xi Yan witness the final outcome and fully understand the true nature of Lu Yu. However, what happened next made her pupils shrink in shock as she exclaimed,
“How is this possible!?”
On the stage, the Bronze Armored Baboon was being pushed to the edge, covered in wounds and panting heavily, clearly at its limit.
Fang Yun, his face filled with excitement, commanded, “Keep using ‘Stink’!”
Though victory was within reach, he didn’t lose his cool and became even more cautious.
He was preparing to end it with a long-range attack!
And the Stink Centipede, excited as well, trembled in preparation for its final strike, only its preparation took slightly longer due to the exhaustion setting in, and it inadvertently closed the distance a little more than it should have.
Before it could release its poisonous wind, the Bronze Armored Baboon, which seemed to be at the brink of exhaustion, suddenly burst with energy. It pounded its chest with its fists and let out a heaven-shaking roar:
“Roar!”
The deafening sonic wave emanated from the baboon, whipping up a storm of dust, shaking the Stink Centipede so intensely that its cognition stalled for a moment.
“We’re in trouble, get away!”
Fang Yun’s expression changed as he urgently ordered his beast to dodge, but Qi Wei simply chuckled,
“It’s too late to react now!”
With a push of its legs, the Bronze Armored Baboon shot forth like a cannonball.
The Stink Centipede tried to respond, but the roaring had shaken its senses, and the exhaustion had slowed its reaction by a second or two — in the heat of battle, that was a deadly flaw!
Unable to dodge in time, the Stink Centipede was caught by the Bronze Armored Baboon, its mighty strength causing such pain that it snapped back to reality, opened its maw to spray poison wind at close range, only to be swung around like a meteor hammer, repeatedly smashed onto the ground.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Under the terrible impact, the floor tiles of the battle platform shattered, and a cloud of dust rose with fragments of the Stink Centipede’s shell and greenish blood splattering everywhere, while its agonizing cries echoed.
Fang Yun was in agony, shouting, “Stop, I give up!”
As his voice faded, the referee intervened, quickly separating the two beasts, and a professional medical team with healing pets attended to the injuries.
As the dust cleared, everyone finally saw the Stink Centipede, barely alive, and next to it, the Bronze Armored Baboon stood proudly, its wounds serving as medals, making it appear like a god of war.
“It’s over.”
Qi Wei bowed slightly with the grace of an elegant young nobleman. After a moment’s silence, the crowd exploded with thunderous cheers:
“So strong, ten consecutive days of victories!”
“The Ten Crown King! Qi Wei is invincible!”
“The Bronze Armored Baboon is the epitome of brutal aesthetics!”
“It looks like Qi Wei will soon reach the silver rank like the other geniuses!”
“Indeed, falling a bit short in academics means nothing—it’s the real combat that proves everything!”
In the midst of this uproar, Fang Yun, the defeated, rushed to his barely alive Stink Centipede, weeping bitterly and repeatedly apologizing.
And just as lost, was Fang Yao…
