Chapter 32: Night King
by xennovel“Who’s speaking?”
The little boy blurted out, and before he could react, he was suddenly pushed aside by a force. His body rolled on the ground, deftly avoiding the Sandrock Snake’s tail whip.
The snake’s tail swept over, leaving a shallow trace on the ground.

Seeing the situation, the two lackeys sighed in relief and continued to persuade:
“Boss, let’s just drop it, alright? A little punishment is enough; let’s go find something else fun to do!”
However, the shattered-haired boy’s eyes were red with fury. His prized pet beast had failed to defeat this poor wretch, and he felt greatly humiliated. He bellowed:
“Sandrock Snake, use Stone Spear! I don’t believe he can be this lucky every time!”
“Hiss hiss!”
The Sandrock Snake gathered earth elements and formed two sharp stone spindles the size of a fist, which it then hurled. Yet again, they were “accidentally” dodged.
“This is…”
And the skinny little boy also felt something was off—as if there was an invisible force guiding him to dodge the attacks. It seemed he’d realized something, and with surprise, he exclaimed:
“Is it you, Divine Sovereign?”
However, the voice only repeated:
“Do you want to understand the meaning of life?”
“Divine Sovereign, although I should say I do want to, I don’t quite understand how knowing the meaning of life will make a change. But my mother taught me to take more paths and help more people, given the ability to do so—to shelter the weak from wind and rain. And most importantly, to make sure my family has a good life. Perhaps, that’s the meaning of my life…”
The little boy hugged the Wind Spirit Cat and kept dodging attacks, led by the mysterious force, creating a somewhat comedic effect. After pondering for a moment, he replied with a simple yet sincere answer.
The mysterious voice did not resound again, as if disappointed for not receiving a satisfactory answer, it seemingly left.
“Hiss hiss!”
Angered, the Sandrock Snake cornered the little boy in an alley and spewed out a large amount of sand, sweeping forward with a surge of sand and gravel, preparing to strike a fatal blow.
“It seems I really am a failure; even the Divine can’t stand by and watch.”
The little boy let out a bitter smile, facing the incoming stone spears with no retreat left. But he did not regret his answer, nor did he want to give up the Wind Spirit Cat.
He wanted to protect others!

Just as he closed his eyes and braced for a severely wounded fate, the voice once again echoed:
“As you wish!”
In the sky above, a Mist Crow flew by, dropping numerous invisible spirit puppet threads that silently pierced the boy’s limbs, binding them tightly as if a puppeteer was about to start a grand performance with his marionette.
And the stage for this performance…
Was the human realm!

Boom boom boom!
The sharp gravel pierced through the walls, and the sand exploded instantly, blurring the vision.
“We’re done for!”
The two lackeys shut their eyes, trembling in fear, not wanting to see a bloodied mess.
“Now you know what happens when you cross me!”
The shattered-haired boy laughed out loud, completely oblivious to the seriousness of the situation.
However, just as he was about to turn around, the reflection of a skinny figure appeared in his pupils, indifferent and cold. The seemingly frail fists in the boy’s vision magnified!
Bang!
With what seemed like a friendly punch, the little boy knocked the shattered-haired boy flying, who slid on the ground and fainted.
“Hiss hiss!”
The nearby Sandrock Snake, enraged at the sight, spat out sand towards the boy. However, the boy rolled, dodged the attack and stood up with a thin bamboo stick in his hand—a weapon beloved by children, “the stick”.
“Great Black Sky Sword Dance, Second Form—Waning Moon’s Shadow!”
Controlled by the mysterious hand behind the scenes, the little boy became a master of swordsmanship. Agile in movement, using the stick as a sword, a vague black waning moon shadow appeared behind him, as if to consume everything. The Great Black Sky Sword’s intent spread, plunging the Sandrock Snake into eternal darkness.
The little boy suddenly flicked his stick upwards, hitting the sand-spewing Sandrock Snake in the jaw, causing it much pain and nearly choking on the sand it was about to expel.
But the attack didn’t end there. The long stick, like a waning moon crashing to earth with a whooshing sound, came down heavily, striking the snake’s vital spot and shattering the scales and flesh.
“Hiss—”
The Sandrock Snake, struck in its weak point, bulged its eyes, and its body stiffened as it collapsed beside its breeder.
This scene all happened in the blink of an eye, witnessed by the two lackeys who had just opened their eyes.
Could this frail human have defeated a powerful pet beast?
How is this possible!?
How could a weak human defeat a super-creature!
Yet, pinching their own flesh, they realized that the scene before them was not a dream. They recalled how they had bullied this little guy earlier and couldn’t help but tremble in fear, worried that they might face retribution.
“Ah, help!”
In fear, the two scrambled and rolled their way out of the alley. As for the still unconscious “boss,” they completely abandoned him!
The little boy quietly witnessed this scene. Like a swordsman in a stage play, aloof and indifferent. But as the invisible threads that bound him dispersed, the grand play came to an end.
The “God” reclaimed Its puppet strings,
And the hero was to return to life.

His overexerted limbs suddenly ached, and the pain in his muscles made him stagger and half-kneel to the ground. Looking at the frail Wind Spirit Cat in his arms, although nearing exhaustion, his face was still bright with a grin:
“Thanks to the Divine Sovereign’s help, we’re both safe!”
“Meow! (`)”
The Wind Spirit Cat extended its little spiked tongue and gently licked the little boy’s grubby face, showing closeness and gratitude, causing the boy to burst into laughter:
“Haha, stop licking, it’s ticklish…”
(
)
The Mist Crow, controlled by Lu Yu, watched this scene, turned its head to leave, but was stopped by the little boy’s voice:
“Are you an avatar of the Divine?”
The Mist Crow paused, turning back to see the boy standing timidly with a resolute gaze, scratching his head shyly and saying:
“The Divine Sovereign’s appearance coincided with your descent. I had my suspicions earlier, but now I’m sure. Thank you very much for your help. My mom would’ve had to work hard to make money if I had been hurt. I don’t want her to toil anymore. Thank you very much!”
Saying this, the little boy bowed in thanks and said sincerely:
“Thank you, Lord of the Night. I will definitely repay you in the future!”
When he was manipulated as a puppet and used the Great Black Sky Sword Technique, the little boy also felt a trace of the sword intent.
It was like seeing the God of the eternal and silent night, yet all-embracing.
The Lord of the Great Dark Sky!
The King of the Night!
(
)
Plop!
When the Mist Crow heard this somewhat chuunibyo title, it almost stumbled and fell, but it flapped its wings and flew off, disappearing into the sky.
“Night King…”
The little boy repeated the name, his gaze earnest, as if to etch the name deep in his heart. Then he crouched down to the tri-pawed Wind Spirit Cat and said:
“My name is Ling Xiaodong. I have a mom who loves me. Although our family is not wealthy, I want to ask, would you like to be part of my family too?”
“Meow!”
The Wind Spirit Cat stretched out its little paw, without hesitation, pressing it on Ling Xiaodong’s hand.
“Haha, let’s call you ‘Kung Fu’, since you’re a tri-pawed cat and all!”
“Meow?” The cat seemed puzzled.
Together they left the alley…

In the sky, the Mist Crow dispelled the water mist that had hidden its form and flew back into Lu Yu’s room. It disintegrated into countless transparent threads, collected by Little Spider.
“This cat… was beyond my expectations…”
Lu Yu watched the back of the little boy as he left, contemplative. While just now experimenting with puppet manipulation, he had intended to use spider silk to block the stone spear attack. However, the tri-pawed cat’s eyes lit up with radiance that boosted Ling Xiaodong’s speed, allowing him to perfectly dodge the attack.
Then came the subsequent scenes.

“This cat does not seem to have lost a leg due to injury but was born this way. This means it’s a unique individual.”
Among the extraordinary creatures, due to the gathering of large amounts of spiritual energy and collisions, there will always be some mutated individuals—akin to genetic mutations in reality, but born under extraordinary powers, commonly known as unique breeds.
The direction of mutation can be good or bad. Some may change their color or body, and some may have altered racial skills.
The racial skill ‘Wind Travel’ of Wind Spirit Cats is supposed to let them move with the wind and speed themselves up—a mid-tier skill.
However, this tri-pawed cat can apply a lightening buff to others, reducing Ling Xiaodong’s body weight by half, thereby gaining unparalleled agility. Such an effect is at least a high-tier skill.
Compared to its kin, this tri-pawed cat has gone from a lowly sneak to a noble mage in terms of potential.
The future holds unlimited potential!

“With dreams in heart and protection of the weak, one should not let them suffer among thorns.”
Lu Yu smiled slightly. He was no saint, but he appreciated those with ideals.
If he wanted to help, then let him. That is his attitude toward life. Not wanting to see others suffer unnecessary trouble is also his preference.

The title of “Night King,” although a bit teenage edgy, is still quite interesting.
Especially the character for “night,” which in his past life’s Chinese, looks like an eye.
And he owns the Eye of Truth for all things.

“This kid seems to have grasped a seed of the Great Black Sky Sword Intent, equivalent to receiving the inheritance of the Nun of the Heavens, possessing infinite possibilities. Whether he will become lost among the masses or emerge as a legend of the future…”
It really is like having the sensation of being the mysterious hand that manipulates the fate of others from behind the scenes.
(
)
“Having watched this show for so long, I’m a little hungry!”
Lu Yu stretched lazily and prepared to go downstairs to eat, suddenly recalling that he owes the Student Council President a meal, which was a good time to settle.
To save a bit was to save a bit.
(
)
So, he took out his mobile phone and searched for his contact.
[Muyu: President, want to have breakfast together?]
A reply came quickly.
[President: Yes]
Lu Yu also prepared to wash up. The girl would likely be more fastidious and lived a bit farther away, so it should take about twenty to thirty minutes. Luckily, the dumpling shop downstairs is open until ten, and they make everything fresh, so the taste won’t be affected.
(
)
However, less than ten seconds later, another message arrived.
[President: I’m downstairs at your house]
Lu Yu: ???
