Chapter 1: The Lost Genesis of the Blue Fatty
by xennovelThe world thrives on the pursuit of profit; people come and go, all for the sake of gain.
The atmosphere in front of the station is always bustling. Among the crowd, a young man with a backpack steps out.
After graduating high school, Jiang Ping worked hard in the city, but in the end, the city only held onto his youth while he himself couldn’t stay. To make matters worse, his girlfriend of five years broke up with him just like that.
Tired of the deceit and scheming, Jiang Ping decided to quit his job and return home to clear his mind. As he walked home, he felt an unexpected wave of nostalgia.
“Thump!”
Suddenly, a figure in black brushed past Jiang Ping, accidentally dropping a thick book with a black cover.
“Wait! You dropped something!” Jiang Ping called out, bending down to pick up the book. He turned to find the person, but the mysterious figure had vanished without a trace.
“That’s strange. Where did they go in such a short time?” Other passersby watched Jiang Ping with curiosity, as if the person in black had never existed.
Feeling unsettled in broad daylight, Jiang Ping waited near a roadside shop. Unfortunately, he ended up waiting for hours, and as the sun began to set, he sighed deeply and headed home with the black book in hand.
“Creak, creak!”
The old door groaned as it opened for the first time in ages. The sky was dark now, and the dim lights of the village flickered on one by one. After spending hours tidying up his old house, Jiang Ping finally settled down. As he lay down to rest, he suddenly remembered the mysterious black book he had picked up in the afternoon.
Under the warm yellow light, Jiang Ping examined the strange book closely. The black cover felt smooth to the touch, lacking any roughness; it was neither leather nor fabric, and it had no titles inscribed on it. It was impossible to tell when exactly the book was from.
“Whoosh!”
A flash of golden light suddenly sparkled under the lamp. Jiang Ping rubbed his eyes, doubting whether he was seeing things. He opened the cover, eager to find clues about the owner.
As he flipped the book open, Jiang Ping froze. His entire consciousness was sucked into the mysterious book. Beneath the cover of night, countless people sang praises. Though he felt no presence of his own body, he could see everyone around him—even a small dog licking its lips by the roadside after finishing a bone.
“What’s happening? Wasn’t I just at home reading?” Jiang Ping’s heart raced as he struggled to comprehend his current situation. Suddenly, as if flipping through the pages, scenes flashed before his eyes like a movie reel.
In the blink of an eye, gunfire erupted overhead. Old planes dropped incendiary bombs, and soldiers of various colors surged forward amidst the chaos, surrounded by explosions and flames.
“Is this the World War?” Jiang Ping gasped in shock as he witnessed the bloody battle and the classic airplanes above. It clearly wasn’t the death memories he had once anticipated.
Time continued to revert. “Whoo! Whoo!”
The loud, annoying whistle of a black steam engine echoed in Jiang Ping’s ears. Billowing clouds of steam emerged from its front as Victorian-clad pedestrians passed right through him.
“The First Industrial Revolution?” With no understanding of what was happening, Jiang Ping could only suppress his unease and continue watching.
He felt like a ghost passing through different eras. He witnessed the Age of Discovery, where Columbus pointed at the land of Central America and shouted to his crew, “This is India!” He realized he had also witnessed the power struggles of the Three Kingdoms and even the construction of the Great Wall by the first emperor of Qin.
The rise and fall of the Holy Roman Empire, the construction of the 146-meter-high Great Pyramid of Giza, the establishment and collapse of the first Egyptian dynasty—all were within his sight. He marveled at how Sumerian civilization emerged in the fertile valleys between the two rivers.
It was as if the Earth was spinning backward, revealing its mysterious ancient history to Jiang Ping.
He saw the land become bright with light; the ancestors of humankind wielding stone spears fought against the elements, the land, and the daunting mammoths during the Ice Age!
The first primitive ape to taste the charred remains after a forest fire, the first ape to climb down from the trees, the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex charging across the land, and the pterodactyls soaring in the sky, casting shadows over everything. And there was that colossal asteroid that ended the reign of the dinosaurs! The scene of the catastrophic event overwhelmed Jiang Ping, reminding him just how insignificant individual strength is against the might of nature.
He also witnessed the ancestors of mammals struggling to survive on this ancient land, massive primitive insects dominating early Earth, and ferns running rampant on the ground. The first bizarre ancient fish crawled out of the ocean, becoming the first amphibious creature!
As he went further up the timeline, the Cambrian explosion amazed Jiang Ping. Odd creatures, awe-inspiring and peculiar, demonstrated the miracle of life in ways that challenged his imagination.
The first single-celled organisms emerged in the ocean, and the thick ice sheets, 3000 meters deep, began to cover the Earth from the poles to the equator! The entire globe turned into a frozen white planet, silent and still, making it hard to imagine any cells surviving in such conditions.
Jiang Ping was awestruck by the scenes unfolding before him. He forgot why he was even there, his spirit almost dissolving in the overwhelming history of the planet. Fortunately, the mysterious book shook in his mind, awakening the soul of Jiang Ping that was close to being lost.
The Earth continued to turn backward. Jiang Ping bore witness to the movement and merging of continental plates and the formation of the supercontinent Pangaea! The birth of the atmosphere, the oceans, and the emergence of organic matter, as volcanoes erupted, giving rise to the hellish conditions of the newborn Earth.
“It’s still tracing back!” Jiang Ping thought in shock. He saw how the massive Earth gradually formed from a tiny fragment, how the Moon was struck out of the Earth by a celestial impact.
A ray of light streaked from the original position of the Earth towards the Sun, and Jiang Ping’s consciousness followed that light, witnessing the birth of the Sun.
Nebulae, star clusters, supernova explosions, and the gigantic black holes devouring stars, then came time’s inception—the primordial Big Bang of the universe! Amidst the endless light, Jiang Ping suddenly felt his body. He was back! He was still just opening the mysterious book, and that long journey seemed like a mere moment. Outside, the chorus of summer frogs filled the night.
With a loud “snap,” Jiang Ping closed the book. At that moment, the ancient cover revealed three bold characters: “Genesis!” Jiang Ping’s eyes widened in disbelief. He couldn’t believe that the book which just showed him the origins of the universe had such a staggering name.
“Ding!” A voice echoed in Jiang Ping’s mind, “Bonding with the companion spirit successful. Genesis officially activated.”
“Who are you?” Jiang Ping asked within his mind, attempting to reach this voice. It sounded mechanical, devoid of personal wisdom.
“I am Genesis, the book in your hands. I don’t know how I came to be; I only know my role is to find a master and then create everything.”
A smile tugged at Jiang Ping’s lips. “Can you create the universe as I know it?”
“The real universe is far beyond what I can create at this moment. I can only craft a small world that feels real. However, I will need to consume rare primordial points to do so.”
Jiang Ping felt a bit disheartened. He had hoped to encounter a super artifact that would make him a god of creation, but it turned out to be a trinket that couldn’t create a real world. Wasn’t that just playing a sandbox game? Only entertainment, and no real use in life.
Sensing his disappointment, Genesis continued, “The world I can currently create is akin to your small thousand worlds. One might call it false, yet it truly exists; claim it real, but it can’t affect your three-dimensional space. However, valuable primordial points can still manifest items in this small world, and as I level up, there might come a day when I can truly create a grand three-dimensional world.”
Jiang Ping chuckled. At first, he had indeed imagined skyrocketing to success, but hearing Genesis explain, its potential seemed boundless. However, what exactly were these primordial points it kept mentioning? Everything seemed to depend on them, and Jiang Ping voiced his curiosity.
“Primordial points are both one and ten thousand. They can evolve everything and even interfere with the three-dimensional world. It takes me a century of accumulation to gather just one. Currently, I have 1200 initial points; every point should be used prudently! Once they’re exhausted, it will take an eternity to accumulate again.”
Jiang Ping realized that Genesis was indifferent to everything but placed great importance on the primordial points. It must be something extraordinary.
“Can primordial points really interfere with reality? Can they make me god?” Jiang Ping asked curiously. Could it be that the points were truly omnipotent?
“If you use primordial points to strengthen your body, it could push your physical limits. Your cellular vitality would significantly enhance. Currently, you only have a lifespan of 100 years; after enhancement, your lifespan could reach a maximum of 1000 years.”
Jiang Ping’s eyes sparkled. Birth, aging, sickness, and death—it’s a cycle no one can escape. But now, listening to Genesis, it seemed he could transcend mortality with the primordial points? “What other ways are there to gain more primordial points besides slowly accumulating them?” he asked with excitement.
Genesis’s voice remained steady; aside from primordial points, nothing else seemed to catch its attention. “I don’t recommend using valuable points to bolster yourself. The initial points are your foundation capital. The best use would be to create a small world where the beings within thrive and grow. Eventually, when they die, they will return feedback to me. Directly reinforcing yourself uses the points in the least efficient manner; it’s akin to using gold to forge farming tools.”
Jiang Ping nodded. Directly using precious points was a waste; it seemed he should focus on creating worlds!
“Alright, alright, you can’t catch a wolf without first raising a child. Today I’ll invest 100 points to reap a bounty of 1000 later. It appears I must faithfully develop this noble endeavor of farming. Besides, who knows, maybe gaining new experiences from the small world will present opportunities. That would be the most cost-effective!”
Realizing this, Jiang Ping felt enlightened. Following Genesis, witnessing the origins of the universe and the birth of the Sun had broadened his horizons significantly.
A famous historian once said, ‘If a person can immerse themselves in the sentiments of history, they will acquire true wisdom, for historical experience is the richest treasury of knowledge.’ Besides, Jiang Ping had witnessed the truths of the entire universe. If not for Genesis’s assistance, he might well have lost his mind.
If Jiang Ping were to take a geography or biology exam now, he would easily secure a college degree.
“Thinking about it, doesn’t Genesis have a somewhat similar function to the ‘Genesis Journal’ from the Blue Fatty series I watched as a kid?” Jiang Ping chuckled at the thought. Could this mysterious Genesis truly be lost from those childhood memories? Worth a thought! The primordial points were precious; it normally took a hundred years to accumulate even one. Jiang Ping decided it was time to plan meticulously on how to use his starting 1200 points. A grand creation had already begun to form in his mind, but he needed to experiment first. This was his initial capital; he couldn’t be careless. One wrong step could lead to failure.
Throughout the long night, Jiang Ping constantly communicated with Genesis, preparing for his journey as a creator. He discovered that manifesting things out of thin air was quite challenging for Genesis. However, if he had even a slight template, it could easily replicate. Jiang Ping touched the ‘Genesis’ capital in his pocket and thought, it seemed like tomorrow would be a big splurge! What could be better than trading money for points? It was an unbeatable bargain.
“I must remind you, Master, while I was reversing history, I discovered a small asteroid heading towards Earth.”
“What?” Jiang Ping was taken aback. Genesis truly set his alarm bells ringing! An asteroid colliding with Earth was no trivial matter. After all, he had witnessed the impact that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs, and under such cataclysmic disasters, 99% of life suffered.
Hurriedly, Jiang Ping pulled out his notebook to search. He found that only one asteroid, Apophis, frequently visited Earth. Apophis, also known as the ‘Doomsday Star,’ was said to barely miss Earth in its trajectory. There must be some undiscovered human anomaly causing this asteroid’s orbit to change.
Having witnessed Genesis’s mysteries, Jiang Ping believed Genesis’s words even more fervently. Clearly, it was something far beyond the ancestors of human civilization! “How long until it strikes Earth?” he pressed on.
“According to your timeline, the asteroid will collide with Earth in about 20 years,” Genesis replied calmly.
Jiang Ping felt a tug at his heart. Don’t downplay the impending apocalyptic crisis! Twenty years could be both long and short.
“Do you have a good solution?” Jiang Ping asked with a furrowed brow. It was tough to gain such opportunities, but now to face a potential doomsday disaster was tough.
“With humanity’s current technology, it would be a significant challenge to tackle this asteroid. Even if we could shatter it, the shards would turn into countless meteors falling onto Earth. Master, you should focus on developing your world. In the small world you’re able to manipulate time and space; adjusting time can fast-track your growth. In about a year, you could transcend to godhood. However, if you fail in management, exhaust all your points, then just wait for death as a high probability!”
Jiang Ping’s lips twitched. Genesis could sometimes be quite sardonic; perhaps it was due to its purely logical analysis. But it wasn’t wrong. The awareness of the looming end of the world made him even more determined to create worlds, especially since he had gained the additional task of saving them! “Then, starting today, I’ll become a god of creation!” Jiang Ping smiled as he gazed out at the dark night.
Newcomers are welcome to collect and recommend. Originally, this book was titled “Becoming a God of Creation Today,” which is the line at the end of the first chapter. However, the initial chapter failed to pass the review, so it was ultimately renamed.
