Chapter Index

The doctor looked at the form in his hand: “Given the situation, I won’t prescribe anything for the second miss, right? Medicine can do harm, so self-regulation is best if possible.”

“Go ahead, just prescribe some calcium tablets,” Jiang Qian said, her red lips parting slightly. “But tear off the label, and don’t tell anyone—especially my sister or Xiao Meng.”

The doctor understood how embarrassing this was for a young woman: “Alright, I’ll get the medicine. Please wait a moment.”

With that, the doctor left the room.

Outside the examination room, Jiang Jingshi and Fang Meng stood together.

Jiang Jingshi furrowed her brow in worry and asked Fang Meng, who knew some traditional and Western medicine: “The doctor said high dopamine can cause nerve disorders. That sounds serious—how bad is it?”

Fang Meng recalled the data from the instruments during the check-up and had a vague idea of what was going on.

But since she’d left the room early, she didn’t want to jump to conclusions:

“Don’t worry, eldest miss, the doctor will be out soon. I think it’s nothing major. I can read some of the instrument data, and it’s nowhere near the level that would cause nerve disorders.”

Jiang Jingshi felt a bit relieved: “Are you sure?”

“Yes, absolutely not that serious. The data doesn’t lie.”

The doctor opened the door and stepped out. Fang Meng and Jiang Jingshi hurried over, and Jiang Jingshi quickly asked: “How’s my sister?”

The doctor smiled, and everyone relaxed a little:

“She’s fine. The second miss is probably just worn out from lack of rest lately. I’ll get her some medicine, and she’ll be back to normal soon.”

Jiang Jingshi pressed for details: “Just from being tired?”

The doctor nodded: “Yes, mental fatigue from focusing too much on certain things, leading to a fast heart rate. It’s not a real illness.”

The last of their tension faded, and Fang Meng let out a sigh of relief too.

They thanked the doctor, who went to fetch the calcium tablets.

Jiang Jingshi and Fang Meng entered the room, where Jiang Qian had composed herself and stepped out.

Jiang Jingshi asked: “The doctor said you’ve been overworking yourself. This is your first time ending up in the hospital from exhaustion. I guess I can’t let you bury yourself in your room studying anymore.”

Jiang Qian felt awkward, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment as she replied coolly:

“It’s nothing serious. I’ve just been too focused on the college entrance exams and not resting enough. Once that’s over, this won’t happen again. By the way, why are you here?”

“I got Xiao Meng’s call saying your heart was bothering you, so I dropped everything at the company and rushed over. Good thing it was just a false alarm.”

Seeing her sister’s concern, Jiang Qian remembered that despite their arguments at home, they were still close sisters.

“I’m really fine. You should head back to the company. I’ll go home and rest.”

Jiang Jingshi nodded: “Once the doctor brings your medicine, go home. As for tomorrow’s graduation ceremony, if you’re feeling tired, you don’t have to—”

Before she could finish, Jiang Qian cut in: “No, I have to go!”

Opportunities to spend time with Lin Zheng Ran were rare, and tomorrow they’d perform together, give speeches, and there was even that confession from a male classmate.

She’d be with Lin Zheng Ran all day, so skipping was out of the question—even if zombies rose or the world ended, she’d fly there in a helicopter for the graduation ceremony.

Jiang Jingshi saw her sister’s determined expression and didn’t push further.

Still, a doubt lingered in her mind. Once the doctor returned, Jiang Jingshi asked: “My sister wants to attend the graduation ceremony tomorrow. Is that okay?”

The doctor packaged the medicine, knowing that for lovesickness, seeing the person was the best cure: “Oh, it’s fine. In fact, going will help. It won’t affect her daily life.”

Jiang Qian took the medicine from the doctor and left the hospital with Xiao Meng.

She hurried out, embarrassed by the whole thing and unable to stay a minute longer.

Who gets hospitalized for lovesickness? She needed to get home and rest before anyone found out—it would be too humiliating.

Jiang Jingshi watched her sister leave but stayed behind.

She turned to the doctor, who looked puzzled: “What is it, Boss Jiang? Do you have more questions?”

Jiang Jingshi frowned and asked seriously:

“What’s really going on? You said she just needs rest, but then you mentioned the ceremony would be better. Is her heart issue from something else? You didn’t tell me the truth earlier, did you?”

“Well…” The doctor shifted awkwardly, seeing Jiang Jingshi’s serious face.

She knew vague answers would upset her, especially since Jiang Jingshi had invested in the hospital and was essentially a shareholder.

But she’d promised the second miss not to say anything, so the doctor decided to have the nurse explain it instead.

That way, it wasn’t breaking the promise directly.

The young nurse whispered the full story to Jiang Jingshi.

Jiang Jingshi’s serious expression slowly turned to one of surprise, her eyes widening in shock.

“Lovesickness? Is that even a real condition?”

    The nurse nodded:

“Yes, Jiang Qian’s focus is stronger than most. With her recent obsession over the boy she likes, it led to today’s symptoms.”

“Dopamine naturally causes excitement, and the second miss probably had a dream or did something last night that made it surge, affecting her heart.”

“Exactly. That overproduction caused the discomfort.”

After a half-minute pause, Jiang Jingshi suddenly burst out laughing, covering her mouth with the back of her hand.

“My little sister is just too amusing.”

The doctor chuckled awkwardly: “Just to clarify, I didn’t tell you this. I promised the second miss I wouldn’t, so please don’t say it came from me.”

Jiang Jingshi glanced at him, cleared her throat, and composed herself: “Don’t worry, it was the nurse who told me, not you. But your earlier comments were off. So, for lovesickness, rest is the answer?”

“Yes, though rest only eases it. The best fix is seeing the person, which is why I said the ceremony would help more than skipping it.”

    Jiang Jingshi nodded: “Got it.”

The nurse handed a form to the doctor, who glanced at it in surprise:

“Wait, Boss Jiang, I see you have an appointment for the day after tomorrow. What’s wrong? If you’re free now, we can check you out.”

Jiang Jingshi replied: “I’ve been having trouble sleeping lately, feeling groggy during the day, and always—”

She caught herself, realizing her recent dreams about Lin Zheng Ran. He hadn’t been at the company much with exams, and she’d missed seeing him before his test because of work, making her more restless.

Was this her own case of lovesickness? The thought hit her.

Jiang Jingshi’s face turned awkward: “Nothing, I probably just haven’t been resting well.”

The doctor said: “For sleep issues, let me check your pulse. If it’s nothing else, I can prescribe some herbal medicine.”

    Jiang Jingshi nodded slowly: “Alright.”

The doctor said respectfully: “Please, have a seat.”

She sat and extended her arm, her mind racing: As the older sister, was she really catching the same lovesickness for her brother-like figure?

    This was too much.

Jiang Jingshi took a deep breath and reminded the doctor: “Keep my sleep issues quiet—don’t tell anyone, especially Qian Qian or Xiao Meng.” She glanced at the nurse: “And you too, keep it secret.”

Both the doctor and nurse nodded.
