Chapter 299: Sisters’ Heartfelt Rivalry
by xennovelFather Jiang shook his head, exhausted, as he sank into the sofa.
“Everyone outside keeps saying our Jiang family produced an angel, a genius. They claim neither Jingshi nor Qian Qian has many men who can match them in this world, that you two are hard to impress.”
“But look at us now? It’s not about others matching us anymore. My two daughters are fighting over one man! You’ve abandoned the company, tossed aside decorum. At dinner, Qian Qian confessed, Jingshi confessed, Qian Qian kissed him, and then the sister kissed him too!”
He spread his hands wide:
“I’ve been your father for all these years, and neither of you has ever kissed my cheek! But right in front of me, you go and kiss another man on the lips! And you’re pushing around the business your mother and I built over the years!”
Jingshi and Qian Qian stayed silent, but inside, they both felt embarrassed about what had happened.
After all, it was in front of their parents.
Seeing the two not speak, Father Jiang grew angry and raised his hand, shouting to his wife:
“I’m done with this! I can’t handle it anymore! There’s no sign of reconciliation, so what’s the point? Let’s just have another child and let them fight over it too! Give the company to this new daughter!”
Mother Jiang sighed helplessly: “Have another one? Never mind our age and whether we can, or if the child would have talents like Jingshi and Qian Qian. Even if we did, haven’t you thought about what if she grows up and falls for Lin Zheng Ran too?”
Father Jiang’s eyes widened at her words: “What are you saying? How could another child fall for Lin Zheng Ran? Think about the ages!”
“Girls who like older guys aren’t rare,” Mother Jiang laughed. “I’m just making a point! Your outburst is all talk, scaring yourself more than anyone. It’s just hot air that only upsets you.”
Father Jiang was at a loss for words and sighed heavily.
In the end, Grandfather stepped in, setting down his teacup:
“Enough! This isn’t like our usual family meetings about business. This involves feelings, not profits. No one can force you not to like Lin Zheng Ran just because we say so—we can’t decide that.
I know both Jingshi and Qian Qian are deeply emotional people, but even strong feelings don’t always work out. This isn’t the old days where you could both marry the same man.”
Father Jiang heard this and gestured frantically, meaning Dad, don’t say that—it’s dangerous talk!
Jingshi asked curiously: “Grandfather, I’ve already gotten together with him. Doesn’t that count as a resolution?”
Grandfather nodded: “In theory, yes, but Qian Qian has a point too. You’re not married yet, so over the next four years, you need to keep an eye on Lin Zheng Ran.”
Jingshi’s lips parted slightly, as if to speak, but she held back.
Grandfather continued: “So, I think as elders, your parents and I should stay out of it. I only ask that you two promise me this: no matter who ends up with Lin Zheng Ran and who doesn’t, don’t resent your family. Bless each other—you’re sisters who grew up together.”
Suddenly, they spoke as one.
It was Jingshi and Qian Qian together: “Don’t worry, I won’t lose.”
Father Jiang and Mother Jiang: “.”
Father Jiang frowned and asked: “And if you do lose?”
The sisters replied in unison: “There’s no if—I’ll never lose.”
Grandfather saw this and burst out laughing:
“With that kind of synchronicity between you sisters, I doubt you’ll ever turn into enemies. Since that’s the case, let’s just let this play out naturally. What do you say? We can’t force matters of the heart as parents anyway.” He glanced at Father and Mother Jiang.
Father Jiang stayed silent, his face stern.
Mother Jiang spoke for her husband: “I suppose that’s the only way—let it happen naturally.”
She turned back to her daughters.
Even if a winner emerges in the end, could the one who loses really move on and love someone else?
Whether it’s Jingshi or Qian Qian, in love, they’re both more devoted than anyone imagines. Otherwise, they wouldn’t fight so fiercely for it.
That night, Father and Mother Jiang didn’t stay at the villa; Grandfather retired to his room after wrapping up the discussion.
Qian Qian, Jingshi, and Fang Meng saw the elders off at the door.
Father Jiang glanced at the silent pair and huffed before getting into the car.
Mother Jiang called back: “We’re leaving now. Get some rest early tonight. As for Lin Zheng Ran…”
The sisters steadied themselves.
Mother Jiang emphasized:
“I mean, about him coming for dinner at our house tonight. He’s Jingshi’s lifesaver, so if the meal didn’t go well, that’s on us.
Invite him again, make it more formal, but absolutely no more scenes like tonight with you two vying for him at the table! Once was enough—don’t let it happen again! Got it?”
The two reluctantly agreed.
Mother Jiang nodded: “Alright, head back inside. No need to see us off further.”
She and her husband got into the car, and the driver closed the door before returning to the driver’s seat and driving away.
Qian Qian and Jingshi watched their parents leave, only to lock eyes accidentally, and the sisters huffed at each other again.
They stormed back inside.
Fang Meng followed Qian Qian.
In the back seat of the departing Rolls-Royce, Mother Jiang looked at her grumpy husband staring out the window.
She nudged him with her arm: “What’s wrong? Still sulking? Isn’t the topic settled?”
Father Jiang glanced at his wife:
“Settled? You know Jingshi and Qian Qian better than that. With their personalities, this will end with one of them staying single forever, never marrying.”
Mother Jiang realized her husband shared her thoughts, looking troubled: “It’s true—they’re not ones to fall easily, but when they do, it’s all in. This is going to be a deadlock.”
Father Jiang gazed into the endless night and shook his head in despair, questioning everything:
“And as a father, watching my daughters I’ve raised get so close to another man, fighting and kissing in front of me—my heart feels cold. I’m jealous that Lin Zheng Ran has won both their hearts.”
Mother Jiang couldn’t hold back a laugh: “Oh, you! Weren’t you just saying how much you like this son-in-law and insisting he join the family? Changed your mind?”
“It’s not that—it’s just hard seeing them so intimate with someone else. But I guess your father felt the same about me when I chose you.”
Mother Jiang smiled: “Of course. Especially back then, you weren’t as impressive as Lin Zheng Ran—just an ordinary guy. My dad wasn’t thrilled at first.”
Father Jiang said proudly: “True, but I won you in the end. Anyway, we’ll take it one step at a time. Things have a way of sorting themselves out.”
Mother Jiang shook her head: “I can’t imagine how, unless…” She suddenly recalled something Grandfather said.
Her husband looked puzzled.
Mother Jiang chuckled: “Never mind, like you said, we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. We’ll see.”
