Chapter 371: Surprise Visits in the Office
by xennovel“Oh, so you’re the new Secretary Han. Hello, hello! You’re really stunning, Secretary Han!”
“Hello, Director Liu. Thank you for the compliment.”
After a quick greeting, Pan Lin eyed the envelope in his hand, noting its odd shape—wide at the bottom and narrow at the top. “What’s that? Some files?”
Director Liu waved it off with a casual smile. “No, just something my relatives sent. I’ll take it home tonight.”
Pan Lin didn’t press further. “Alright, now that we’ve met, I won’t handle anything related to Director Lin anymore. Just contact Secretary Han directly if you need anything. Her company phone number will go out in the group chat soon.”
“No problem.”
Once they left the administration department, Pan Lin asked Han Wenwen, “We’ve covered most of it, so let’s check out the warehouse last. You’re not too tired from walking in those high heels for so long?”
Han Wenwen thought to herself that ever since that lottery thing started, her stamina had improved a lot. Though she’d been walking for a while and felt a bit worn out, it wasn’t overwhelming. “I’m fine.”
“You don’t seem like a newbie with high heels. You’re pretty comfortable in them.”
Han Wenwen had occasionally tried them on privately to spark Brother Zheng Ran’s interest, though not often. She replied casually, “I wear them now and then.”
“Okay, once we’re done at the warehouse, we’ll take a break. It’s out back on the first floor.”
The two headed down together in the elevator.
But just five minutes later, as Han Wenwen and Pan Lin finished touring the warehouse and were about to return to the office building lobby,
They bumped right into her uncle and aunt stepping out of the elevator.
Han Wenwen’s fox-like eyes widened, and her uncle and aunt, looking a bit troubled, did the same.
The three stared at each other.
In complete surprise.
Han Wenwen asked, puzzled, “Uncle, Aunt? What are you two doing here?”
Her uncle stared at Wenwen’s outfit—the high heels, black stockings, and form-fitting skirt that made her look like a professional. He’d never seen her like this before. “Wenwen?! You…”
Her aunt was just as shocked. “Wenwen? Why are you dressed like that? And what are you doing here?”
Pan Lin looked at Han Wenwen, confused. “Who are these two?”
Han Wenwen quickly introduced them. “Pan Jie, this is my uncle and aunt.” Then to her relatives, “Uncle, Aunt, this is Pan Jie, Secretary to Director Jiang.”
Not knowing who Director Jiang was in such a big company, but figuring anyone with a secretary had to be important, her uncle reached out his hand. “Hello, Secretary Pan. I’m Wenwen’s uncle.”
“Hello.”
Noticing her aunt’s curious expression, Han Wenwen explained, “I started working here today. So, what brings you two here, Uncle and Aunt?”
Her aunt frowned. “Working? Aren’t you already doing part-time jobs? Your uncle and I are here to discuss some business.”
“Heh.” Han Wenwen covered her face with a light laugh. “I juggle a few side gigs. But you’re coming to the north for business?”
Han Wenwen had heard from her uncle that they’d set up a small factory six months ago and even sent her photos, but their setup wasn’t big enough to warrant talks here.
Her uncle chuckled. “The market’s been tough lately. We’ve got to hustle more.”
“Oh, I see. Is it going well?” Han Wenwen asked.
“Well…” Her uncle hesitated. They’d just left the procurement department, where they were told everything needed review and they’d hear back later—no clear yes or no. “It’s okay.”
Pan Lin glanced around, sensing something off, and chimed in. “Excuse me, you said you’re here for business? With the procurement department?”
Her uncle nodded. “Yes, procurement.”
“So, you’re leaving now? No one walked you out?”
Her uncle smiled. “No need. We’ve wrapped up.”
“No need?” Pan Lin said seriously. “Company policy says departments should see guests out, whether the deal goes through or not. Who did you talk to?”
Her aunt noticed Pan Lin’s authoritative vibe and remembered what Wenwen had said about her being a secretary.
She glanced at Han Wenwen. “Wenwen, come here for a second. I need to ask you something.”
“Okay.”
Her aunt pulled Han Wenwen aside. “Wenwen, about this Director Jiang you mentioned…”
The clever Han Wenwen caught on to her aunt’s curiosity right away. “Oh, Director Jiang, the vice general manager of Zheng Shi Company.”
“The vice general manager?! So that means she’s the secretary to the vice GM?” Her aunt was stunned. “Someone that high up is personally showing you around on your first day? You…”
Han Wenwen smiled. “Well, I’m a secretary too—Brother Zheng Ran’s secretary.”
“Ah?”
Seeing her aunt didn’t get it, Han Wenwen didn’t beat around the bush and laughed.
“Aunt, I never told you and Uncle, but since we’ve run into each other, I’ll spill it. Brother Zheng Ran started his business back in high school, and now he’s the big boss of Zheng Shi Company. The whole company is his.”
Her aunt could hardly believe her ears. “What did you say? Lin Zheng Ran? You’re saying your boyfriend is the head of Zheng Shi Company—this company?”
“Exactly.” Han Wenwen nodded with a smile.
Her aunt stood there, stunned. It sounded almost unbelievable, yet the facts were right in front of them.
As a woman, she couldn’t help but wonder if this kid was incredibly lucky or not…
And then she burst out laughing for no clear reason.
“This is just too wild…”
The perceptive Han Wenwen whispered, “By the way, Aunt, their business deal didn’t go through, right? What’s the deal?”
Her aunt didn’t know how to respond.
“This matter…”
Soon, her uncle and aunt explained the situation. With Pan Lin around, there was no hiding it anyway.
They were led to the VIP room.
Han Wenwen headed up to the seventh floor to find Lin Zheng Ran.
She knocked, and after a moment, Lin Zheng Ran called out to come in.
Pushing the door open, Han Wenwen saw Jiang Jingshi wiping her mouth with a tissue while sitting next to Brother Zheng Ran.
A faint blush colored her face.
The timing was just right.
Lin Zheng Ran asked, “Wenwen’s back? How’s the orientation going?”
Jiang Jingshi tried to act casual. “Wenwen’s back.”
Han Wenwen blinked her fox-like eyes at Jiang Jingshi, a knowing look in them, laced with a hint of jealousy.
What had Jiang Jingshi and Brother Zheng Ran been up to in the office just now?
Jiang Jingshi felt embarrassed and avoided Han Wenwen’s gaze, hoping not to get caught.
Still, because of what had happened, the little fox pursed her lips and said, “Brother Zheng Ran, my uncle and aunt are here. I had them wait in the VIP room.”
“Your uncle and aunt? What’s going on?”
“It’s quite the coincidence. Here’s what happened…”
After hearing the story, both Lin Zheng Ran and Jiang Jingshi were surprised, especially Jiang Jingshi, who paused mid-sip of water. Her already flushed face now showed a touch of anger. “What? Director Liu from administration is colluding with procurement? Wenwen, where’s Pan Lin?”
Han Wenwen replied, “Pan Jie’s already gone to administration to find Director Liu.”
Jiang Jingshi thought for a moment, then looked at Lin Zheng Ran. “Zheng…”
Lin Zheng Ran knew what she meant and stood up. “Wenwen, I’ll go with you to see your uncle and aunt.” He added to Jingshi, “Jingshi, handle the company stuff. You’re better at this than I am.”
Jiang Jingshi nodded. “I’ll take care of it. Once I’m done, I’ll join you and Wenwen in the VIP room.”
“I’m counting on you.”
