Chapter Index

    Buzz…

The moment Lu Xin charged straight at the human-faced monster the atmosphere grew heavy charged with danger.

Even the super-class level two mental monster which had previously only known how to crawl forward mindlessly merging with larger mental entities to grow stronger no matter how powerful the attacks against it seemed startled by something unusual. Its massive body began to tremble.

Its bloated obese body couldn’t turn but the faces covering the side pointed towards Lu Xin simultaneously widened their eyes. On that body seemingly crammed with hundreds of faces every single one twisted in horror before simultaneously opening their mouths wide.

They didn’t scream. Instead they produced a jarring noise like incandescent bulbs flickering under unstable voltage.

As these sounds erupted the surrounding space distorted rippling outwards. Ring-shaped shockwaves pulsed layer by layer. Within the range of these shockwaves the corpses on the ground whose mental entities had already been devoured rendering them senseless immediately curled up their bodies and limbs resembling coiled springs.

    “What is that…”

The City Patrol Soldiers who had already retreated from the battlefield not even daring to look back suddenly felt a shiver run down their spines.

Startled they looked back sensing a terrifying power lurking beneath the deep night sky.

    “A Mental Distortion Field…”

Gecko muttered his expression grave completely losing his usual playful demeanor.

As an Ability User he could clearly sense a vast mass of mental power spreading from the direction of the South Wall.

This alarmed him and he spoke nervously “That mental monster… although it doesn’t seem to have any potent pollution abilities just stitching together mental fragments its psychic power has reached a certain level making it inherently terrifying! It just needs to release its mental power to form telekinesis and wherever that telekinesis fills becomes a destructive distortion field!”

He wasn’t saying this to explain but because he was nervous.

When he got nervous he couldn’t stop talking.

But neither Tie Cui nor Han Bing were in the mood to comment merely growing tense alongside him “A Mental Distortion Field is the most terrifying area-of-effect ability. Ordinary people caught within it will instantly go mad or become idiots. If an Ability User is caught and the difference in psychic power is too great they’ll also be instantly affected losing control…”

    “He’d better not lose control…”

Gecko’s voice was low “I really don’t want to deal with another teammate losing control…”

“When you guys recruited me you said I could save people and even look after the ‘young ladies’ businesses’ without getting caught…”

“…But it wasn’t supposed to be about fighting teammates…”

    “…”

For a moment no one reacted to the truth he had subconsciously revealed.

    *Crack* *Crack*

As the formless distorted mental power was released two searchlights instantly shattered plunging the surroundings into darkness.

With the lights gone the Red Moon’s glow seemed even brighter.

It had just rained yet the night sky was surprisingly clear. The Red Moon seemed closer to the ground than ever before.

And under the Red Moon’s light the lunging Lu Xin met the distorted mental force field head-on.

Then he charged straight through it a look of contempt flashing across his face.

Within this force field that seemed capable of bending steel and twisting every thought he appeared even more distorted than the field itself. This rendered the mental radiation released by the monster completely ineffective against him not even slowing his forward charge. His figure moved strangely against the current reaching the front of the human-faced monster.

Then he reached out both hands aiming for the human-faced monster’s back.

Previously when Lu Xin tried cleaning up this human-faced monster he had torn off many parts but it was useless.

The monster could instantly devour more mental entities to fill its gaps.

This time Lu Xin didn’t try to tear at it instead he got closer.

He reached out both hands to stroke it.

    *Kaka kaka…*

Facing Lu Xin’s hands the human faces on the monster began to open their mouths one by one each stretching to its absolute limit producing a strange sound like a taut rubber band. Their black hole-like mouths seemed ready to bite his hands.

But Lu Xin’s speed was clearly faster than these faces.

His hands swiftly stroked across them sliding from one face to another.

And then these faces suddenly swapped positions.

Sometimes faces swapped places with other faces.

Sometimes on the same face the nose and mouth swapped places.

This caused the already distorted and crazed monster to become discordant. At least the part Lu Xin touched lost its coordination like a complete whole suddenly experiencing chaos on a certain level.

The massive human-faced monster began to writhe. Its faces rolled forward propelling it like a serpent.

When injured its instinct was to devour more mental entities to replenish itself.

It didn’t care about the parts Lu Xin had injured it could even directly abandon them.

After all its greatest advantage was having so many mental entities to devour. This made it fearless of damage. No matter how much it was hurt it could quickly or even faster recover. In the end it was the people of Satellite City who would die not it.

However just as its body was still moving it suddenly sensed something wrong.

Where Lu Xin’s hands touched all the faces began to twist and lose coordination. Initially compared to the monster’s immense size the distorted area was small. But as the monster started crawling forward it found that the feeling of distortion began to spread outwards from that small twisted section. One face affected another then more.

The distorted part was growing larger.

And as the distorted area grew larger contacting a wider surface the speed of this distortion also increased.

Like a conspicuous oil slick spreading across the surface of water.

The huge mental monster’s crawling speed suddenly slowed.

Its instincts warned it of some terrifying consequence.

“Mr. Lone Soldier brother doesn’t seem like the type to brag!”

At the same time outside the battlefield on a rooftop positioned to provide support near the South Wall at any moment Gecko incessantly disassembled and reassembled the sniper rifle in his hands while rambling “But I still don’t get it. What method could he possibly have against that mental monster… It’s too big you can’t even kill it properly. How can a Spider-type deal with it?”

In the channel Tie Cui and Han Bing were also silent because they didn’t understand either.

As members of the Information Analysis Team they had deep knowledge of Pollution Sources and Ability Users. Only with such understanding could they propose targeted suggestions for various complex situations enabling Ability Users to perform better.

But the more they knew the less clear this situation became.

Spider-type abilities mostly affected the user themselves offering limited angles of application.

Without corresponding standard-issue weapons a Spider-type had virtually no way to deal with this kind of mental monster…

    “So that’s how it is…”

Below the High Wall Lu Xin watched his sister’s actions from an absolutely calm perspective and finally understood.

Mom said Sister could handle this monster. He hadn’t understood before.

Now he saw it. It was actually that simple.

Sister was polluting the mental monster!

In terms of pollution ability this mental monster was truly just a toy in front of Sister!

    A large moving screaming living…

    …toy!

    Chapter Summary

Lu Xin confronts the massive human-faced mental monster which unleashes a terrifying Mental Distortion Field. Observers Gecko Han Bing and Tie Cui worry Lu Xin might lose control. Unaffected Lu Xin passes through the field and 'touches' the monster rearranging its facial features. This introduces a spreading 'pollution' disrupting its structure. Lu Xin realizes this is his Sister's power at work treating the powerful monster like a simple toy by 'polluting' it.
