Chapter Index

Lu Xin had already learned this during his previous training.

Pollution Sources and Ability Users were essentially the same thing.

The only difference was that Ability Users could control their powers while Pollution Sources released theirs uncontrollably. Because of this distinction Ability Users often suppressed or limited their abilities compared to Pollution Sources.

Take Spider-type Ability Users for example, they could easily twist their own bodies achieving feats normally impossible.

But now Lu Xin watched as his sister used her ability to twist the Mental Monster itself.

This wasn’t the ability of a Mentally Altered Person.

    This was Pollution.

    *Crack*… *Crack*… *Crack*…

As more and more parts of the Mental Monster became distorted its movements grew restricted.

It seemed to sense panic, beginning to writhe constantly.

From the sides of its obese body countless human faces stretched outwards forming thick columnar masses.

These columns extended further sprouting five fingers to become arms nearly five meters long.

Its two arms folded upwards reaching back to grab Lu Xin who was on its body.

Yet despite its enormous size its movements seemed incredibly slow to Lu Xin.

Using both hands and feet Lu Xin scrambled across the sea of faces on its body. His form would twist or hang upside down in ways that defied physics and human limits dodging the Mental Monster’s grabs and counterattacks.

During this process he couldn’t stay in one area of the monster’s surface for too long, preventing him from twisting other parts of its body. However the areas already twisted by his sister continued to spread. The distortion grew larger gradually covering half the Mental Monster’s body significantly hindering it more and more.

Its movements became extremely uncoordinated, slowed down as if pinned to the ground.

This change seemed to trigger something akin to panic in the monster. All the faces on its body that could still move, the undistorted ones, simultaneously showed expressions of pain and alarm. Mouths opened haphazardly as if wailing in agony.

The cries were chaotic scattered noise, twisting the surrounding air like crackling strands of electricity.

Caught in this ‘current’ Lu Xin felt countless steel needles stab into his brain and churn relentlessly.

But a happy expression spread across his face as if he was about to clap.

    *Rip*…

At the same time as the increasing incoordination caused by the pollution affected its movement, the monster made an unexpected decision. It stretched its body forcefully and lunged forward.

The twisted part of its body was forcibly torn off in the struggle.

Its speed instantly increased, resembling a pale bizarre humanoid worm as it rapidly squirmed ahead.

Ahead of it were the crowds whose mental entities it had yet to devour.

Now those whose mental power had been devoured and those who hadn’t formed two distinct groups. The devoured had already collapsed limply to the ground, lifeless with stiff faces. Those untouched remained standing numbly facing the High Wall, tears streaming silently like stalks of grain waiting to be harvested.

This Mental Monster actually abandoned its polluted part just to devour these people faster.

But where it crawled appeared a woman in an exquisite white dress.

Mom smiled towards it gently, like welcoming a popular guest.

Even having shed half its body the still bloated enormous Human-faced Monster showed fear on all its faces simultaneously. Facing this elegant woman it didn’t hesitate turning back as if intending to charge at Lu Xin.

But as it turned it saw Lu Xin already standing atop a giant monster head smiling down at it.

It was the half of the body it had abandoned, appearing generally similar to itself.

Except the Mental Monster beneath Lu Xin’s feet looked exceptionally twisted and terrifying. It too was composed of countless faces but each face was bizarre enough to drive one mad like a series of abstract paintings.

Where eyes should be there was definitely a nose, where a nose should be a mouth had grown instead.

Countless abstract human face paintings formed this massive abstract monster and all its eyes turned to look at the original monster.

“Hee hee this monster is so stupid…”

Sister’s laughter echoed in Lu Xin’s ear sounding very happy.

Actually Lu Xin himself only just understood. Sister hadn’t just polluted the Mental Monster; she had taken the part it actively discarded—the part already polluted by her ability and twisted into strangeness—and turned it into her own toy.

The two monsters roared at each other under the red moonlight.

Then a smile appeared on Lu Xin’s face. He gently raised both hands as if playing an invisible piano.

The twisted Mental Monster beneath his feet suddenly went berserk countless faces roaring simultaneously as it rapidly crawled forward.

    “Ssss…”

It sounded like countless electrical currents colliding and intertwining.

The two Mental Monsters slammed into each other tearing and biting.

To outside observers it just felt like an invisible bomb had suddenly detonated in the air.

Patches of distortion appeared in the air like heat haze from a fire causing visual refractions due to uneven air density.

On the empty ground a deep pit would suddenly appear gouged out by unseen forces leaving a deep trench filled with flying debris. The soil bubbled occasionally like boiling water forming soft swollen lumps.

A faint but exceptionally clear tremor spread outwards like ripples in water traveling far.

The red moonlight cast down occasionally outlining the massive twisted forms of the two monsters.

Their battle was brutal and silent possessing a strange sort of grandeur.

    “Something’s not right…”

Far outside Qinggang on a distant high-rise building. The man with the beard wearing a beret, or rather ‘Qin Ran’.

He slowly frowned looking at the increasingly chaotic lines on the instrument panel.

“It shouldn’t have reached the predetermined psychic power level yet, why is it becoming unstable?”

    “It’s just testing a bomb!”

The man in the red suit laughed, “Boss you’re too tense. Need me to take a look through the puppet?”

Qin Ran seemed to consider it seriously for a moment then said, “Take one look but sever the connection immediately and forever after.”

    “You really worry too much!”

“I don’t believe any Ability User can stop the detonation of a Mental Bomb…”

The man in the red suit smiled, then faced Qinggang City raised his left hand and gently hooked his little finger.

Qinggang Second Satellite City South Wall.

Among the crowd standing silently like harvested grain one person’s little finger suddenly twitched.

    Then this person blinked.

Amidst the motionless crowd around him he stiffly turned his head and looked towards Lu Xin.

Gecko and the City Patrol Army had already withdrawn from this battlefield. Even Chen Jing had ordered the surveillance equipment shut down.

But many people were still secretly observing this battlefield recording every change.

There was a man with a camera hiding in a hidden doorway beneath the High Wall.

There was a woman observing the battlefield with an ultra-long-range telescope from a high-rise building miles away.

And there was a person sitting quietly on a sofa in a sealed room in the Second Satellite City their gaze unfocused.

He sat on the sofa but his perspective seemed to be hovering mid-air by the High Wall.

Lu Xin had already told others to withdraw from the battlefield.

No peeking no approaching no recording.

But now as Lu Xin focused all his effort on dealing with the Mental Monster many uninvited eyes appeared.

Mom who had been standing quietly watching Lu Xin deal with the Mental Monster smiled.

From her own exquisite small satchel she took out a pair of scissors.

Everyone whose gaze was cast upon the scene suddenly heard a crisp *snip* sound.

It was the sound of something being cut.

    Chapter Summary

Lu Xin learned his sister's power wasn't standard alteration but reality-twisting Pollution. She used it on the attacking Mental Monster causing parts of it to distort. The monster panicked tearing off its corrupted half to reach untouched victims faster. Mom appeared blocking its path with an intimidating smile. The monster retreated only to face Lu Xin standing atop its discarded half now controlled by Sister as an 'Abstract Monster'. The two fought fiercely. Meanwhile observers including Qin Ran monitoring a 'Mental Bomb' test noticed instability. One observer used a puppet among the crowd to watch. Mom noticed the watchers and ominously produced scissors.
