Chapter Index

Everyone present was stunned by Gecko’s words.

The man who’d been joking around just moments ago, seeming completely harmless, suddenly transformed into someone else entirely.

He radiated a confidence utterly foreign to the people of Blackwater Town.

A strange tremor ran through these desperate men. Not only did their faces pale, but one even dropped his gun.

And Niu Zi, hiding in the crowd, flinched back violently after Gecko glanced at him, a dark stain spreading across his pants.

    “Vrooom…”

Just then, the roar of accelerating engines filled the air. Dazzling headlights flared from all directions as seven or eight heavily modified cars converged on their position, bathing the area in bright light.

On the cars were groups of armed men, guns trained on everyone in the center.

    They arrived quickly.

It was clear that while Blackwater Town seemed chaotic, the person in charge was keeping a close eye on everything happening within it.

This wasn’t surprising. Someone who knew enough to deploy ‘rabbits’ outside for intelligence gathering wouldn’t be slow to react.

From the southernmost car, a door opened and a voluptuous figure stepped out. Backlit by the headlights, only her silhouette was clear. She wore a black cheongsam and white high heels, cradling a lazy black cat. Two men followed her; one held a gun, the other held a transparent umbrella over her.

…Surprisingly, it was a curvy and well-endowed woman.

    “Master Snake…”

    “It’s Master Snake…”

Seeing this person, everyone jumped, especially the men who had come with the Peacekeeper. They hastily lowered their heads.

“Everyone, lower your guns. The people from Qinggang aren’t our enemies.”

    “And naturally, we aren’t Qinggang’s enemies either…”

The full-figured woman holding the cat slowly approached, her voice languid yet carrying undeniable authority.

Only when she stepped out of the direct glare of the headlights could they see her face clearly. She was strikingly beautiful, though she appeared slightly older and carried an air of weariness. But when she looked up, her slightly raised eyelids revealed an exceptionally sharp gaze.

    *Clatter… Clatter…*

Hearing her words, the Peacekeeping team members immediately lowered their guns.

But Gecko kept his weapon raised, still aimed at the tall, burly Peacekeeper. He turned his head with a smile, “Hello, Master Snake.”

His eyes quickly and discreetly swept over the woman, and his smile instantly broadened.

    “What’s going on here, gentlemen?”

The woman called Master Snake looked up at Gecko, then turned to Lu Xin, speaking slowly, “If you wanted to come in and arrest someone, you should have at least let us know. Or even just told us who you were after. My men could have caught them for you…”

“There was no need for such a big commotion, was there?”

    “Hahaha…”

Gecko laughed, seemingly pondering how to explain.

He hadn’t expected the notoriously fierce Master Snake to be a woman. He wasn’t sure if Qinggang City’s intelligence had missed this or if they simply didn’t know. More likely, Qinggang hadn’t anticipated sending someone to Blackwater Town to make an arrest.

    “I’m truly sorry, Master Snake.”

Lu Xin spoke up first this time. Facing their leader, he showed a degree of respect, explaining earnestly, “We came in to investigate first because we were worried about alerting our target. That’s why we didn’t contact your side. That was indeed our mistake. We understand the town’s rules. My friend fired two shots earlier. A thousand per shot fine, we’ll pay it in full.”

    “Hm?”

Master Snake seemed slightly surprised, tilting her head slightly to look at Lu Xin.

Gecko, who had just started laughing and hadn’t closed his mouth yet, also looked at Lu Xin with some astonishment.

“However, it turns out our caution was justified.”

Lu Xin looked seriously at Master Snake, continuing his explanation, “We’ve already discovered that there’s indeed a problem with one of your men. He’s currently under a special kind of influence and will protect the person we want to arrest at all costs…”

    “So, about that fine…”

    “Master Snake… Master Snake, don’t believe him…”

Before Lu Xin could state his real purpose, the Peacekeeper cried out frantically.

The muscles on his face twitched unnaturally as he whirled around, shouting at Master Snake, “He’s lying…”

    “Under an influence?”

Master Snake waved her hand, and he immediately shut his mouth.

Her expression turned curious. “What kind of influence?”

Lu Xin thought for a moment and decided on a direct answer: “He loves him!”

    “Oh my…”

Master Snake looked surprised. Her gaze swept over the Peacekeeper and the man in the red suit, a peculiar look in her eyes. She said:

“He’s into that sort of thing? How come I didn’t know?”

Lu Xin said sincerely, “You can test it!”

Master Snake nodded with interest and gestured to the man beside her with her eyes.

Understanding the signal, the man immediately drew his gun and pointed it at the head of the man in the red suit.

    “Don’t…”

The Peacekeeper seemed convinced Master Snake’s subordinate would actually pull the trigger.

He suddenly shrieked at the top of his lungs, sounding terrified, pleading incessantly, “Master Snake, don’t hurt him…”

“I’m begging you! For all the years I’ve served you, please let him go…”

The man in the red suit sighed softly, looking rather awkward. He explained in a low voice, “Actually, I’m straight…”

Lu Xin turned to glance at him. “Can you really say that, after everything he’s doing for you?”

The man in the red suit fell silent.

Meanwhile, Master Snake’s expression became noticeably more intrigued after witnessing the Peacekeeper’s reaction.

    “Well now, isn’t this interesting…”

She slowly stroked the cat in her arms, chuckling softly. “But this matter is too strange. I need to investigate it thoroughly.”

“How about I find out what’s going on first, and then hand him over to Qinggang City?”

    “That won’t do.”

Lu Xin maintained his respectful demeanor towards Blackwater Town’s leader, explaining seriously, “We absolutely must take this person back with us. And for safety reasons, until we confirm certain things, we cannot allow him to come into contact with anyone else.”

    “Hm?”

Master Snake’s expression seemed to darken slightly. She rubbed the cat in her arms and glanced at Lu Xin.

Her tone was languid again. “Well, you can at least tell me what crime he’s committed, can’t you?”

Lu Xin thought for a moment, looking troubled, but still explained, “We have a confidentiality agreement. Until headquarters makes this matter public, we can’t casually disclose the details. If you wish to know, I can consider submitting an application back at headquarters. If they approve, I will inform you, Master Snake… I hope you can understand our difficult position. If everyone remains reasonable, things will be much easier to handle…”

Master Snake’s brow furrowed now. She turned to look at Gecko.

Gecko had been standing there blankly. Seeing Master Snake’s gaze land on him, he quickly puffed out his chest and said, “I listen to the Captain.”

    “Heh…”

Master Snake stopped talking, her expression clearly displeased.

The cat she held was a plump orange tabby, its fur groomed sleek and glossy. It was currently nestled comfortably against her chest, eyes half-closed, seemingly observing the strange man before them with some curiosity…

And Lu Xin’s gaze, directed at Master Snake, happened to sweep over the cat at that exact moment.

The eyes of the man and the cat met unintentionally in mid-air.

If gazes colliding made a sound, there would have been the crackle of static electricity right then.

    *That cat is really fat…*

    Lu Xin thought to himself.

    “Meow…”

Perhaps uncomfortable from being rubbed, the cat in Master Snake’s arms suddenly cried out. Its neck fur bristled, and it struggled violently to get free. In its frantic movements, its claws dug into Master Snake’s plump arm, drawing blood.

    The commotion was sudden.

All the men surrounding them, guns aimed inward, sensed a dangerous shift in the air.

Behind the rows of dazzling lights, the faint metallic *click-clack* of firearms could be heard.

It was the sound of many safeties being disengaged, men ready to open fire the instant Master Snake gave the word.

The atmosphere instantly became heavy and tense.
