Chapter 175: Escalating Nightmare
by xennovel*Swish!*
The guard’s sudden vicious move was impossible to react to.
But Lu Xin seemed to anticipate it. His sister’s gaze had warned him of something wrong behind him.
He spun around unnaturally fast, reaching out to grab the guard’s arms.
*Pak!*
The moment he caught the guard’s arms the expression on the guard’s face turned blank, and the ghost vanished again.
The lights in the lobby flickered erratically. Everyone’s face shifted between bright light and dark shadow. The sudden commotion and the unstable voltage filled everyone in the lobby with panic, making them look around nervously.
Amidst the tension, one by one, their expressions began to change.
Broken and unnatural voices emerged, “Did you think… I… couldn’t feel… your mental power… rushing towards me?”
The words came from different people but formed a continuous sentence.
The chaos intensified, and the voice took on a strange eeriness, “Opposing me… you’re courting death…”
…
…
As the words spoken through different people trailed off, Lu Xin frowned.
This type of ability user wasn’t terrifying but incredibly troublesome.
Beside him Li Mengmeng was trembling again in the strange atmosphere. The way everyone’s expression suddenly shifted, staring at her sinisterly, created a distorted and unsettling feeling of unreality, as if everyone had turned into monsters.
Normally this scene would have been even more impactful than before but with Lu Xin beside her she didn’t scream.
“No one can protect you…”
“If I didn’t want you to kneel before me willingly I would have already taken you…”
“I could even use your father’s body to take you…”
…
The shifting faces pressured her once more. Faces contorted constantly shifting from one person to another like an absurd nightmare. They spoke in different voices but the same chilling tone, uttering terrifying words, “I can become anyone around you I can also kill anyone around you…”
“So you still want to resist me?”
“You still dare to keep refusing me?”
“The Administration Hall the police including him… no one can protect you…”
…
Under the assault of those varied voices Li Mengmeng who had been tormented to the brink of madness these past few days seemed to draw strength from Lu Xin beside her. She suddenly closed her eyes and roared, “You’re crazy! You’re just crazy…!”
“Get lost! You stalker get lost…!”
…
“Ah…”
Lu Xin glanced at the girl beside him, too scared to even open her eyes but still cursing vehemently.
He somewhat admired her courage.
His sister beside them tilted her head, looked them over and let out a strange chuckle.
…
…
“Hahahaha…”
“Even now you still have the guts to refuse me…”
“You’re asking for death…”
Li Mengmeng’s words seemed to infuriate the ‘ghost’. Amidst the flickering lights in the lobby a sudden roar erupted.
It was impossible to tell whose mouth the roar came from.
But amidst the chaos a sturdy young man suddenly flung his girlfriend aside. A sinister smile spread across his face as he took a large stride charging fiercely toward Lu Xin. A dagger appeared in his hand seemingly out of nowhere. Taking advantage of the flickering lights overhead he lunged aiming to stab Lu Xin’s lower abdomen.
“Gently…”
Lu Xin once again reminded softly grabbing the young man’s hand and twisting it downwards.
The young man screamed the dagger clattered to the floor and his face turned blank.
“Wang Zhi! Wang Zhi what’s wrong with you…?”
His girlfriend turned pale with fright and ran over seemingly wanting to help him up.
But as she got closer her hand suddenly dipped down snatched the dagger from the floor and lunged at Lu Xin.
Lu Xin grabbed the dagger from her hand then pulled Li Mengmeng back.
He didn’t even need to restrain her. The moment he deflected her wrist her expression had already turned terrified and bewildered.
…
…
In the lobby people continuously rushed towards Lu Xin their faces turning sinister and vicious.
But after Lu Xin blocked or dodged them their movements would abruptly stop. They’d look confused for a moment then scream in terror.
And as they screamed another person’s eyes would quickly turn sinister.
The entire lobby transformed into a bizarre twisted world. Everyone was terrified by the continuous strange occurrences screaming in panic. But within this panicked crowd someone could suddenly change expression and launch a deadly attack at any moment. This scene was like an upgraded nightmare making one feel like the whole world was out to get them…
Under these circumstances Lu Xin could only keep retreating putting distance between himself and everyone else.
Gradually he backed up against the wall. Frowning slightly he simply retreated upwards along the wall.
Holding Li Mengmeng with one arm he seemed to defy gravity moving onto the wall. He then frowned looking down.
This bizarre action instantly threw the entire lobby into even greater chaos.
Even outside the hotel curious onlookers gathered craning their necks to peer inside.
The more onlookers gathered the more dangerous the situation naturally became.
…
…
“So you’re not an ordinary person either…”
Seeing Lu Xin retreat directly onto the wall an uncle below carrying a briefcase suddenly looked up. Beneath his glasses his gaze turned sinister as he looked at Lu Xin chuckling softly, “In that case we should be considered kin right…?”
“Since we’re kin why are you still opposing me?”
“Let me have this woman. You can choose anyone else I can help you. We can join forces…”
“As long as we’re willing everything in this city is ours isn’t it?”
“As long as we want it there’s nothing we can’t obtain…”
…
Lu Xin looked down at him and said, “Seriously you’ve already broken the law…”
“Heh heh…”
The middle-aged man with the briefcase chuckled lowly thinking Lu Xin was mocking him. His voice turned cold, “Since you’re seeking death then I’ll grant your wish. There are many people here but unfortunately no guns. But that’s fine… I can just go find someone with a gun.”
As he spoke his expression suddenly turned blank. After a moment he abruptly snapped back to reality then became terrified.
He pointed a trembling finger at Lu Xin and screamed, “Ghost… a ghost…!”
Even Li Mengmeng held by Lu Xin hiding on the wall was trembling uncontrollably like chaff in the wind.
Being pulled onto the wall by Lu Xin terrified her just as much.
But she didn’t scream choosing instead to close her eyes tightly not daring to look down nor at Lu Xin.
Lu Xin’s actions and abnormality surpassed her imagination.
But the chaos below and the vicious expressions suddenly appearing on everyone’s faces terrified her equally.
“What’s happening… What’s happening…”
She kept muttering these words her sanity seemingly battered by one impact after another.
“It’s okay don’t be afraid. There are some madmen in this world…”
“But there are also people who will protect you…”
Lu Xin comforted her softly then moved swiftly sliding down the wall and placing Li Mengmeng aside.
He had already seen a police officer rushing over through the transparent glass window.
“Watch her and… don’t play with her…”
Lu Xin said to his sister then sped up dashing forward himself.
…
…
He was borrowing his sister’s power now. His movements were agile and nimble incredibly fast. Under the flickering lights of the lobby he even had a somewhat eerie aura.
However compared to when his sister directly helped him his movements still seemed clumsy and slow. Fortunately it was enough to let him reach the door just as the police officer rushed into the lobby.
*Bang bang bang…!*
The police officer burst into the lobby gun already in hand firing immediately.
His face wore a sinister crazed expression. He didn’t even care who he was shooting at just wanting to fire bullets.
But at that exact moment Lu Xin reached him sharply knocking his wrist upwards. The bullets all flew towards the ceiling.
Lu Xin’s next move was to grab his neck but he noticed the officer’s expression had already turned somewhat blank.
“Hahaha isn’t this one still not enough?”
At the same time a little girl behind Lu Xin suddenly shrieked with laughter her tender face filled with excitement, “It doesn’t matter! However many you want I have them! I can even go to the City Patrol Army and get a submachine gun…”
As she yelled she brandished the pencil in her hand stabbing fiercely at Lu Xin’s back.
“Isn’t that enough…?”
Lu Xin took a step back his voice low.
He didn’t even strike because he knew the other party would definitely dodge.
Sure enough the little girl’s expression turned blank then she burst into tears.
And to the left an old man huddled on the floor head covered seemingly terrified by the chaos suddenly lifted his head.
His eyes held unconcealed mockery, “Are you scared already?”
…
…
Lu Xin frowned looking at the old man.
The old man stared back defiantly.
Then Lu Xin slowly lowered his head pressed his hand to his left ear and continued, “Should be enough time right?”
Hearing some response from his left ear he nodded, “Good.”
“Who are you talking to?”
The old man suddenly became wary staring intently at him.
“That’s about enough.”
Lu Xin frowned looked at the old man and said, “The City Patrol Army has surrounded the place. Can you stop now?”
