Chapter Index

The next day, Lu Xin arrived at the company early in the morning.

He hadn’t slept well the night before and didn’t seem very energetic today.

The lingering influence of the Dream Weaver-type Ability User had disrupted his usually relaxed mood.

Even when he got home, his family was already asleep, probably because it was so late.

So he ate some leftover takeout by himself and went to his room to rest.

After six hours of sleep, he woke up right on time and rushed to the company for work.

Forcing his groggy eyes open, Lu Xin arrived at his cubicle only to snap fully awake.

    “Where’s my stuff?”

Before him was a completely empty cubicle.

His office supplies, his computer, even the trusty trash can he always used—all gone.

This instantly reminded Lu Xin of the time Lü Cheng almost stole his job, and a wave of frustration washed over him.

All sorts of bad thoughts raced through his mind:

Was it because I shot Vice President Xiao’s secretary yesterday? Were they pissed off enough to fire me?

Or maybe Vice President Xiao was just using me? Did he turn his back on me the moment I was no longer useful?

…No, wait, the bridge hasn’t even been crossed yet!

Just as Lu Xin stood there blankly, wondering where to even put his bag, a timid voice spoke up beside him:

“Supervisor Lu, your office is over there…”

Lu Xin snapped back to reality and saw it was Brother Zhang, who usually ran errands with him.

Following his pointed finger, Lu Xin noticed a slight change in the office layout.

Across from Director Liu’s office, several panels of frosted glass had been erected, making the Director’s original space a bit narrower. Before, everyone worked in the main hall, with only Director Liu having an office at the far end.

But now, there were suddenly two offices facing each other, seemingly on equal footing.

    “Mine?”

It finally clicked for Lu Xin. He pointed at himself in surprise, “You called me Supervisor?”

    “Yeah, didn’t you get promoted?”

Brother Zhang looked surprised too. “Right after work yesterday, Director Liu ordered some construction workers to come in. They worked overnight, took down partitions, and walled off a new office. He said now that you’re a supervisor, you can’t work in the main hall anymore. They didn’t just rush to add new desks, chairs, and supplies; they also moved all your old stuff over…”

    “Ah, this…”

Lu Xin was dumbfounded. The Director’s execution was that efficient?

Half-doubting, he went over to take a look and saw a label on the door: ‘Supervisor’s Office’.

Pushing open the glass door, he saw a small office, about four or five square meters. His old computer sat on a brand-new desk, and even the non-swiveling chair he used to sit in had been replaced with a new one.

His pen holder, files, and his familiar little trash can were all there.

“They actually prepared this for me?”

Lu Xin felt a bit dizzy, overwhelmed by this sudden stroke of good fortune.

“Of course! And it’s all new…”

Brother Zhang followed, leaning against the doorframe and looking in. “They were going to replace the computer too, but the Director considered that, you know, our computers tend to have some… uh… private stuff on them. So, you’ll use this one for now.”

As he spoke, he shot Lu Xin a look, implying the Director was giving him time to transfer his files.

    “Our company… is so thoughtful…”

What else could Lu Xin say? He could only sigh with heartfelt emotion.

Hearing his sigh, Brother Zhang blinked and echoed, “Maybe so…”

Soon, as the workday approached, colleagues started arriving one after another. They were all surprised by the new office, and after some hushed inquiries, they flocked over to Lu Xin’s office to greet him.

    “Supervisor Little Lu, congratulations, congratulations…”

“Supervisor Lu, we’ll all be working hard under your leadership from now on…”

    “Good morning, Supervisor…”

    “Supervisor Lu…”

After a series of evolving titles, everyone settled on calling Lu Xin ‘Supervisor Lu’.

They were all very enthusiastic. Some congratulated him on getting his own office, jokingly demanding he treat them.

Others offered him freshly washed fruit, urging Supervisor Lu to try some.

Everyone knew Lu Xin was a big shot now, someone who could hang out with the Vice President.

Lu Xin was in a good mood too, smiling and responding to everyone, though he didn’t agree to treat anyone.

It wasn’t about saving money; he was just too busy lately…

About half an hour later, the Director arrived for work, sporting dark circles under his eyes.

It looked like he had personally supervised the work here last night.

But despite looking tired, his spirits were high, the sagging flesh on his cheeks gleaming with an amicable shine. He first came to see Lu Xin, encouraged him to keep working hard, and then excitedly returned to his own office.

He finally wouldn’t have to spend the day squatting in the restroom, right?

    “Everyone’s working hard…”

But Director Liu hadn’t even been sitting in his office for two minutes when a polite voice suddenly sounded from outside.

Director Liu, who had just started to relax, jolted in surprise. He shakily stuck his head out of his office, his few remaining hairs standing on end. He saw Vice President Xiao, looking even more relaxed and amiable than himself, standing in the main office area greeting the employees.

    “Ah, this…”

Director Liu rushed out frantically, his mind reeling.

    *Why is he here again?*

As he burst out, he saw all the employees just staring blankly. Director Liu was about to lose it.

“Everyone, quick… quick, welcome Vice President Xiao, who’s here to guide our work again!”

“Haha, no need, no need. Everyone, just carry on with your work. Don’t be strangers…”

Vice President Xiao quickly stopped the scattered applause that arose as the employees finally reacted, smiling all the while. His words left Director Liu unsure how to respond—after all, it was Xiao’s company. If anyone insisted on being formal, it might be the Director himself who ended up the outsider.

Still, he couldn’t understand what was up with this Vice President.

*Doesn’t he have his own work to do?*

Vice President Xiao didn’t say much. He first went into Director Liu’s office, quietly asked if Lu Xin had arrived, then came back out. He spent about ten seconds in Lu Xin’s office without a sound, then emerged and sat cheerfully in Director Liu’s office. He even took out paper and pen, constantly writing and sketching, seemingly organizing some confidential documents.

Director Liu didn’t dare to ask questions, nor could he just sit there idly. After five minutes, he voluntarily left his own office.

So, the work situation today was like this:

Yesterday, Director Liu had his office taken and had to squat by the restroom all day.

Today, after having a new office partitioned overnight, Vice President Xiao and Lu Xin each occupied one of the offices.

Consequently, Director Liu ended up sitting in Lu Xin’s old cubicle all day.

    Everything was perfectly reasonable.

    “Little… Little Lu…”

Late in the afternoon, nearing closing time, Vice President Xiao knocked on Lu Xin’s office door again.

He first called out two syllables loudly, then ducked inside and added the last syllable softly: “…Brother.”

After a full day of internal speculation, he had almost accepted the idea that Lu Xin was some kind of master hiding out in his own company.

    “What is it?”

Lu Xin calmly closed the window on his computer screen and asked impassively.

“I’ve compiled the list you asked for…”

Vice President Xiao whispered, discreetly handing it to Lu Xin. It was densely packed with names and times, followed by details of their interactions with Xiao himself, interspersed with messy arrows…

Lu Xin frowned. “You don’t even know how to make a spreadsheet?”

Vice President Xiao looked guilty and said awkwardly, “Usually… my secretary handles this.”

Lu Xin asked, “So where’s your secretary?”

Vice President Xiao looked even more guilty. “In the hospital…”

Lu Xin was also a bit lost for words. He just waved his hand. “Let’s leave it like this for now. As long as you understand it, it’s fine.”

“The most important thing is to gather them together.”

Honestly, he didn’t understand why Vice President Xiao insisted on making this list for him.

    But he couldn’t refuse either.

Having a list did seem a bit more professional, he supposed.

Hearing this, Vice President Xiao nodded repeatedly, assuring him, “Yes, yes, I’m already figuring out the arrangements…”

“Alright, you can go handle that first.”

Lu Xin nodded. “You can leave the list here for now.”

    “Okay.”

Vice President Xiao breathed a sigh of relief and turned to leave. Suddenly remembering something, he asked, “Brother Lu, do you need me to book your ticket?”

Lu Xin shook his head. “No need, someone should have already booked it for me.”

Vice President Xiao was filled with awe.

He had actually been hinting, asking if Lu Xin had a pass to enter the Main City. He hadn’t expected Lu Xin not only to have one but to even have someone else booking his ticket. His surprise instantly magnified, and he fully accepted the fact that Lu Xin was living incognito.

“I can head to the Main City the day after tomorrow…”

After Vice President Xiao left, Lu Xin reopened the window on his computer.

This must be the perk of having a private space—nobody knows if you play Tetris during work hours.

He had already received a call from Han Bing at noon, informing him that his Level 3 Special Talent application was approved and his profile successfully updated.

Soon, the corresponding payment for handling the ‘True Hometown’ incident would be transferred to his account.

Most importantly, along with the update to his Level 3 Special Talent status, the relevant contract and the pass he was supposed to receive had already been sent to the Security Hall. He just needed to go over after work, sign officially, and collect the pass.

With this pass, he would have the qualification to enter and exit the Main City.

In Qinggang, being able to freely enter and exit the Main City was a symbol of status.

Lu Xin himself had never imagined this day would actually come.

Meanwhile, the Qinggang Advanced Talent Training Conference would also be held in three days. The day after tomorrow, he could set off for the Main City.

Lu Xin understood what this meant.

Being invited to the Advanced Talent Training Conference actually represented Qinggang’s stance.

His application for Second Stage enhancement probably wouldn’t face any issues.

With everything proceeding smoothly, Lu Xin felt for the first time that his path forward was crystal clear:

Undergoing the Second Stage would allow him to see the file locked in the television cabinet and learn about things he cared about.

Additionally, he could use this trip to the Main City to help Vice President Xiao find that troublemaking Dream Weaver-type Ability User.

And, if the user resisted, he could request assistance.

    *Phew…*
