Chapter Index

    “Huh?”

Lu Xin was somewhat surprised. He hadn’t expected Chen Jing to suggest having Doll intervene.

And specifically, for him to be the one to ask Doll to act.

Chen Jing spoke with exceptional clarity. Though her pace quickened with urgency, every word was distinct:

“Regarding the special pollution-type attack brought by the Sea Country, Professor Bai and the Information Analysis Headquarters have already conducted a preliminary analysis of its logic chain and pollution pattern. They’ve determined that these Altered Persons scattered throughout the city are a crucial part of this attack.”

“What we need to do now is resolve the issue of these Altered Persons trying to break out of the isolation zones to prevent future trouble.”

“Doll has the ability to control such large-scale chaotic situations.”

“However, the problem I’m about to mention is rather complex. I’m unsure if she’ll understand a direct request.”

“Therefore, I need you to make the request to Doll.”

Lu Xin understood Chen Jing’s words and nodded immediately. “Alright.”

“First, have Doll control the people in this isolation zone. Stop them from trying to break out.”

Chen Jing spoke quickly and meticulously.

Because the matter was critical, she feared Lu Xin might not relay the message accurately if she wasn’t detailed enough:

“According to the Information Analysis Department’s report:”

“The objective of these Altered Persons is most likely to contaminate others, expanding the area and number of pollutions.”

“The Sea Country secretly created a large number of these Altered Persons in Qinggang City using methods like spreading wishing rituals and curse links. Hidden within the population, they are difficult to detect by conventional means before their mutation. That’s why only you can spot them.”

“When the Sea Country’s S-level Ability User exerts their influence, these Mental Monsters truly awaken.”

“Once awakened, they will be drawn to the Sea Country’s S-level Ability User’s Mental Monster, codenamed ‘Red Cloaked Apostle’.”

“They exhibit two characteristics. One is rushing towards the ‘Red Cloaked Apostle’ regardless of anything else. The second is contaminating all Qinggang City residents they encounter or come within a certain range of while rushing towards the ‘Red Cloaked Apostle’.”

“They were originally hidden among Qinggang’s ordinary people. Once they mutate, they cause the maximum spread of pollution.”

“Because we reacted promptly, most of the Altered Persons were sent to the isolation zones beforehand, thus preventing large-scale pollution. However, this also resulted in the isolation zones becoming massive concentration points for Mental Monsters.”

“If these Mental Monsters manage to break out, they will pose a threat to the entire city.”

“Their threat level has even surpassed that of the ‘Red Cloaked Apostle’.”

Her voice grew heavy as she said this, “So, it’s imperative that Doll controls these Altered Persons in the isolation zones.”

“Second, have Doll trigger the mental power within these people’s bodies to eliminate the forming Mental Monsters.”

“Contact between these Mental Monsters and the ‘Red Cloaked Apostle’ could trigger a terrifying qualitative change…”

“Preventing their contact is equivalent to severing a part of the ‘Red Cloaked Apostle’s’ logic chain!”

    “In that case…”

With such a detailed explanation, Lu Xin quickly grasped Chen Jing’s meaning.

He immediately turned to look at Doll. Meeting his gaze, Doll lifted her head at once.

“Can you control these people? Stop them from running around?”

Lu Xin tried hard to make his words easy to understand, gesturing towards the crowd in the isolation zone.

Doll followed the direction he pointed, looked over, and nodded gently.

Lu Xin continued, “Right now, there are many monsters on them, those pollution sources… they’re merging, getting bigger…”

He made a gesture with five fingers pointing down, mimicking a monster running forward, then added, “Can you eliminate them?”

Doll’s eyes gained a slight focus, looking towards a specific spot.

It was hard to tell exactly what she was looking at from her focus alone.

But Lu Xin followed her gaze and instantly understood. She was looking at a serpent-like creature with a human face.

That serpent resembled the one Lu Xin had seen on Xiao Yuan’s stepmother. Originally composed of a spine and a human face, it had now fused with the mental power of many others. As a result, it looked more like a python embedded with numerous faces.

Lu Xin knew then that Doll understood correctly. He nodded, “Yes, those things.”

    “Can you do it?”

A smile appeared on Doll’s face, and she nodded firmly. “Yes.”

    Clear, crisp, and natural.

    “She answered again…”

Over the channel, both Han Bing and Chen Jing heard Doll’s voice, their hearts stirring slightly.

Lu Xin didn’t notice their reaction; he simply let out a sigh of relief and said to Doll, “Begin.”

Doll nodded firmly again, looked ahead, and her body gently floated upwards.

She wore a heavy black skirt, its hem seeming to sway beautifully as if stirred by an invisible wind. From her eyes, two transparent contact lenses flew out, gently carried to Lu Xin’s side as if held by an unseen hand.

Slightly startled, Lu Xin reached out and caught them, closing his hand around them.

He then noticed that without the contact lenses, Doll’s eyes appeared exceptionally bright.

Usually, her eyes often seemed vacant and indifferent, lacking focus or soul.

But at this moment, one could perceive much within them.

If one had to describe it, it was as if you could see the reflection of the world in her eyes…

    “Whoosh…”

A gust of wind swirled past.

Doll flew to a height of three or four meters. The umbrella in her hand tilted upwards, revealing her face to everyone.

Her eyes also turned towards the isolation zone.

An invisible power spread forward like a tide, covering the entire isolation zone within seconds.

A red hairpin on Doll’s head began to flash with red light, and the sound of ethereal music drifted out.

It seemed to be a very moving song from a cartoon.

And this was also an indication that Doll’s mental power fluctuations had surpassed a certain threshold.

    “Hush…”

The isolation zone, filled with chaos, noise, and even howls that didn’t sound human, instantly fell silent.

Whether monsters or people, everyone inside had been madly surging outwards.

But now, they simultaneously stopped in their tracks, as if someone had pressed pause.

Everyone stared blankly, looking up at the girl floating in the air outside the isolation zone.

Some people’s eyes grew brighter, some palms trembled lightly, some throats bobbed.

Lu Xin looked closely inside and saw that many of the various mental monsters perched atop these people’s heads were also affected. They seemed startled; some looked confused, while others appeared even more violent and distorted, their gazes sinister.

    “Omm…”

Just as the chaos momentarily quieted.

In the distance, towards the Donghai Grand Hotel, fluctuations emanated from the red-cloaked humanoid monster overlooking all of Qinggang.

The fluctuations it emitted seemed to trigger some kind of change.

The Mental Monsters that had momentarily become dazed suddenly regained clarity, one after another.

They let out invisible roars and desperately crawled forward.

Initially, they moved by riding on the people running below. But now, many detached themselves directly from their human hosts, scrambling forward over the dense sea of heads in the isolation zone, as if racing each other.

Under the red moonlight, it looked like a tidal wave of monsters.

Countless Mental Monsters of varying sizes, showing all sorts of expressions, surged towards the girl floating mid-air.

Lu Xin, who could directly see these monsters, couldn’t help frowning and took a step forward.

He was the Captain; he had to protect his team member.

But after he took that step, the girl in mid-air suddenly floated a short distance forward as well.

Lu Xin paused, then understood. She was protecting him.

    This employee is pretty good…

Watching the scene through cameras, Han Bing, and nearby, Chen Jing standing atop a Jeep holding a walkie-talkie, couldn’t see the Mental Monsters. However, aided by the red moonlight, they could see the air above the isolation zone distorting wildly.

Occasionally, dirt, sand, discarded machinery, water pipes, and other things would inexplicably twist or shatter outright.

This made their hearts leap into their throats.

The surrounding Special Task Force members, however, were unaware of the changes here because they had activated the vision disruption mode to avoid seeing Doll.

Facing the surging wave of Mental Monsters from the isolation zone, Doll’s face showed no expression.

It was unknown if she could see the Mental Monsters, but she must have at least sensed masses of pollution sources approaching her.

Yet her expression remained unchanged. She simply closed her umbrella gently.

As she performed this action, layers upon layers of invisible power from within the isolation zone rapidly converged towards her. The speed of this convergence was terrifying, instantly filling the space around her with immense, distorting pressure.

Even Lu Xin felt this pressure, looking up at the girl in the air with slight surprise.

At that moment, the girl was pointing the umbrella in her hand forward, her gaze fixed on the approaching pollution sources.

Then, she suddenly opened the umbrella.

    “Bang.”

The canopy snapped open with a dull thud.

With this action, the immense mental power gathered around her shot forward simultaneously.

It was like one tide crashing against another.

In Lu Xin’s vision, he only saw a brilliant radiance rushed towards the Mental Monsters, then sweep over them like a destructive flood, meeting no resistance whatsoever. The Mental Monsters engulfed by this radiance suddenly froze in place. Some showed expressions of terror, others remained merely blank. After a moment, they collapsed.

Their bodies were pulverized into minuscule fragments, which then scattered away under the light of the Red Moon.

    Not even dust remained.

    Chapter Summary

Chen Jing instructs Lu Xin to ask Doll to handle the escalating situation in the isolation zone. The goal is twofold: prevent the mutated individuals from breaking out and eliminate the nascent Mental Monsters forming within them before they connect with the 'Red Cloaked Apostle'. Lu Xin relays the request, and Doll accepts. She ascends, releases her contact lenses, and unleashes her power. After a brief counter-pulse from the Apostle, Doll gathers immense energy and obliterates the swarming Mental Monsters with a blast from her umbrella, leaving nothing behind.
