Chapter 261: A Difficult Resignation
by xennovelAfter finalizing the plan with Han Bing over the phone Lu Xin left the Security Hall.
Once his application to leave the city was approved he could depart anytime.
This temporary mission was actually just delivering a file, simple enough. However because things outside the city were chaotic and the distance was considerable the mission was rated D-level. It was something he could handle along the way requiring little preparation.
Besides Lu Xin understood that his application to leave the city would likely be approved quickly by the higher-ups.
Perhaps he could even leave tomorrow.
Before leaving the city there was one more thing to take care of.
Riding his motorcycle Lu Xin arrived downstairs at the business company where he worked then headed upstairs carrying his bag.
The moment his colleagues in the office saw Lu Xin they were stunned into silence.
As office white-collar workers they weren’t slow on the uptake; sometimes their news was quite timely.
They had already heard about the major disturbance in the Main City the day before yesterday.
Although they didn’t know the specifics they knew the chaos had caused significant disruption in the Main City.
Even the company’s business was affected and it was difficult to contact both Vice President Xiao and CEO Xiao.
But who would have thought that Lu Xin who had supposedly gone on a date with Vice President Xiao to the Main City just days ago would suddenly reappear?
*Hiss…*
Just how powerful was his background?
…
“Good afternoon…”
Lu Xin greeted his colleagues politely before entering his own office.
After sitting down he slowly cleared his thoughts opened his hard drive deleted some personal files and copied the important ones onto a USB drive. After a moment’s calculation he stepped out of his office again.
In the adjacent office Director Liu was waiting nervously.
He hadn’t been in the office initially. Having just returned from lunch with clients he heard that Lu Xin was back.
The shock was considerable jolting him out of his tipsy state.
He’d wanted to greet Lu Xin but seeing him sitting quietly in his office busy with something unknown he returned to his own office first. Unexpectedly before his butt had even warmed the seat Lu Xin was already knocking waiting to come in…
“Ah Little Lu you’re here! Come in come in! When did you get back?”
Director Liu quickly stood up to welcome Lu Xin grabbing a paper cup nearby to get him some water.
“No need to trouble yourself.”
Lu Xin smiled sat down and said to Director Liu “Director I’m really sorry but I have some personal matters again.”
“So I came here to find you…”
…
Hearing this Director Liu’s heart leaped with joy “You need leave again?”
Lu Xin slowly shook his head “No I’m here to resign.”
“What?”
Director Liu froze on the spot the fat on his cheeks visibly trembling.
The pleasant surprise came too suddenly turning into fright…
Why does he want to resign?
Director Liu’s mind instantly conjured many terrifying scenarios: What exactly did he do with Vice President Xiao in the Main City?
He hadn’t been able to contact Vice President Xiao or CEO Xiao for two days what happened to them?
Now he wants to resign does he finally feel the city is too small for him?
So before he leaves will he suddenly go berserk and… us?
…
As he thought this his gaze grew slightly vacant involuntarily fixing on Lu Xin’s pocket.
“Why are you staring at my pocket?”
Lu Xin felt a bit uncomfortable under Director Liu’s gaze shifted slightly and said sincerely “I’ve actually quite… enjoyed working at the company these past few years. I hoped to continue working here but now I have something that might require me to leave the city for a while. It’s hard to say when I’ll be back so I can only submit my resignation request to you Director…”
Lu Xin spoke these words sincerely and truthfully.
The company wasn’t like the Special Cleaning Department after all. It wouldn’t be good for him to be absent from his position for too long.
Besides the Director had previously approved paid leave for him. How could he continue receiving a salary while being away for so long?
Therefore he came this time specifically to resign.
Of course he also needed to settle his previous salary.
“You…”
Looking at Lu Xin’s sincere eyes Director Liu trembled and abruptly stood up.
He grasped Lu Xin’s hands his facial muscles twitching displaying incredibly genuine emotion and stammered:
“You can’t leave…”
“Huh?”
Lu Xin was completely stunned.
“Little Lu what exactly is happening this time?”
The Director looked at Lu Xin with concern speaking earnestly “Is your sister unwell again?”
Lu Xin paused for a moment before realizing and quickly said “No my sister is fine.”
“Oh oh sit down tell me.”
Director Liu wore a thoughtful expression and slowly asked “Then Little Xiao… how is he now?”
“Little Xiao?”
Lu Xin thought for a moment and sighed “He’s probably not doing well.”
The Director’s hair stood on end as he stammered “What happened?”
Lu Xin honestly replied “Vice President Xiao’s auntie you know his stepmother seemed to have issues with him and… sigh anyway she did something bad and has been taken away by the relevant authorities. Little Xiao and CEO Xiao will definitely be affected right?”
Due to department confidentiality rules he naturally couldn’t go into too much detail.
But Director Liu listened his face already stiffening “The two women around Vice President Xiao…”
“One sent to the hospital…”
“One taken away by the relevant authorities…”
“What kind of bizarre complex dark and heartbreaking drama is this…”
…
These thoughts made his heart tremble his scalp tingling.
It took all his decade-plus of office experience to calm himself down. He said earnestly “Little Lu ah don’t put so much pressure on yourself. There’s a bond between our company and its employees. Didn’t I approve leave for you before?”
“It’s okay just take care of your business. Come back whenever you’re done…”
“Sigh I was young once too. Matters of the heart are sometimes hard to explain but the most important thing is to remain calm and composed…”
…
Lu Xin felt a bit confused. Why were the Director’s words so complex and profound?
However from the Director’s expression he could tell that the Director genuinely wanted him to stay.
How touching…
He had even suspected for a time that the Director wasn’t truly good to him but afraid of him…
Looking at it now he really shouldn’t have thought that.
“But I really might be leaving for quite a long time this time…”
Lu Xin explained somewhat awkwardly “I’d feel bad continuing to receive this salary…”
“No problem.”
The Director said “I’ll arrange unpaid leave for you. We’ll settle your current salary first but we must keep your position open for you. Besides the project you helped the company secure has now developed into a long-term cooperation project…”
“How can we shortchange you on the commission and bonus?”
…
“In that case…”
Lu Xin was genuinely moved.
He wasn’t a pretentious person. After deep consideration he nodded “Alright!”
And so the matter was settled.
The Director enthusiastically escorted Lu Xin back to his office assuring him he should just focus on his own affairs; he would handle all the paperwork.
Only after Lu Xin had settled his previous salary and left the company with his bag did the Director dash back into his own office. A moment later his head popped out and he called his secretary Little Wang in nervously saying “Quickly contact Vice President Xiao…”
“The guy who brings a gun to work wants to resign!”
…
Little Wang paused for a moment “Is that such a good thing?”
“Good? What’s good about it?”
The Director glared at him “Who knows what he’s done now to suddenly want to quit? What if he did something… and is trying to run away? If I let him go won’t I be held responsible later? Besides what if it’s not because he did something but just had a fight with Vice President Xiao a falling out? If I let him go wouldn’t Vice President Xiao hate me to death?”
Little Wang quickly nodded “So what do we do now?”
The Director said with a serious face “First contact Vice President Xiao as soon as possible report this matter and hear his opinion. If it’s confirmed there’s no problem then process the unpaid leave. If there really is a problem…”
“Then I’ll immediately take leave. You just say I didn’t come to the company today.”
…
After leaving the company Lu Xin didn’t idle around. He returned to the Security Hall just in time for mealtime.
In the fourth-floor office of the Security Hall he studied military maps and news from Central City while waiting slowly. Around four in the afternoon the file he needed to take to Central City arrived from the Main City. Along with it came the supplies he needed for his trip outside. There was so much yet somehow they had managed to stuff it all into a single iron box.
However this box had its advantages; it could be placed on the back seat of the motorcycle.
It even had corresponding slots to hold it securely in place.
*Phew…*
Lu Xin looked things over seeing that preparations were mostly complete and let out a long sigh of relief.
He declined the invitation from the young female officer at the Security Hall to stay for dinner and instead rode his motorcycle back home.
He was leaving for Central City tomorrow so naturally he wanted to gather with his family today for a good meal.
However before going home Lu Xin who had thought about it many times took the salary he had just received from the company and quietly went to the Orphanage. It seemed to be outdoor activity time today as the entire orphanage was quiet. Seeing the fourth-floor door locked and the Uncle Guard not sitting on the third floor Lu Xin placed the envelope at the doorway on the third floor.
He looked around worried that Teacher Xiao Lu might not notice it.
After thinking for a moment he turned his head slightly and looked towards the small solitary flower specifically covered with barbed wire by the Uncle Guard.
