Chapter 285: Drawing the Horde
by xennovel“Everyone shut the hell up!”
Amidst the shouting the Boss’s cold face hardened as she cursed angrily, silencing everyone instantly.
“Listen to me, there’s no other way now.”
Her tone softened slightly as she continued, “If the madmen all rush in at once we’ll still die. We might as well take a gamble…”
“But if we all charge out together and something goes wrong there’s no turning back.”
“So I’ll go with him to handle it. You wait here. The moment you get a chance rush out…”
…
As she spoke her brow furrowed, rapidly considering everything, “If you escape this place immediately use every means possible to send word to the surrounding High-wall Cities or even the Knight Orders… whatever it takes get the message out to everyone…”
“There are madmen in White Tower Town. This is serious…”
“Whoever is raising these madmen definitely doesn’t want this news getting out. So we’re gonna damn well spread it…”
“As long as the word gets out that’ll be revenge for me and for the brothers who died here…”
…
By the time she finished her rapid-fire explanation the tape had mostly bound her entire body. Her two subordinates clearly wanted to add more out of some worry but she waved them off impatiently. She grabbed a submachine gun checked the bullets slung it over her back then took a handgun and tucked it into the gap between the tightly wrapped tire leather and her left thigh.
Finally she grabbed a black backpack and placed it on the front of her motorcycle.
“Boss I’ll go with you…”
Little Zhou’s face flushed red as he suddenly stood up and shouted.
“Like hell you will…”
The Boss cursed with a cold expression her gaze sweeping quickly over their faces before she said slowly, “Money isn’t as important as your life. Survive.”
The group of old drivers were stunned. Some faces flushed red while others’ eyes even turned red.
“Stop crying like babies you big men. It’s not that easy for this old lady to die…”
But the Boss clearly had no patience for this. She abruptly turned her motorcycle aiming it at one of the glassless windows.
Next to the window was a slanted wooden plank that had been used earlier to prop up a gun. She lifted her front wheel and charged onto the plank.
Using the momentum she shot out of the low window of the abandoned supermarket looking almost like she was flying.
Everyone’s heart leaped into their throats.
Before anyone could say anything they suddenly saw a silver-bodied motorcycle zip to the window.
Without even using the plank he just pulled up the handlebars leaped out of the window and followed closely behind the Boss.
“Brother Lu bring our Boss back…”
“We don’t want any of the stuff from the scavenging trip! It’s all yours…”
Zhou Xiaomao yelled from behind but his voice was quickly left behind.
…
“So you didn’t actually think I was definitely right either did you? That’s why you didn’t dare let them risk it just pretending to trust me so you could come out yourself. This way even if my intelligence isn’t correct you could use this chance to lure the madmen away?”
Lu Xin’s motorcycle easily caught up to Boss Gao and he asked with a smile.
“And you still followed me even knowing that?”
Boss Gao glanced back at Lu Xin, “I didn’t want to cause you too much trouble either. You can choose to split up here just point me towards the location of that violin sound. After I lure these madmen away I’ll go help!”
“No need.”
Lu Xin smiled, “Your method is pretty good. I didn’t think of that just now.”
Boss Gao Ting fell silent for a moment then suddenly looked straight at Lu Xin, “Why are you willing to help us like this?”
“Didn’t you say it the first time we met?”
Lu Xin looked at her with a smile, “Out in the Wasteland people should help each other when they can!”
The Boss stared deeply at him for a moment, “I said that because I wanted to sleep with you.”
…
Lu Xin looked a bit awkward then chuckled, “Your starting point was wrong but what you said was right.”
“Are there really people like you in this world?”
The Boss gave a cold laugh paused briefly then asked seriously, “Earlier Sun Gouzi suspected you infiltrated our convoy with bad intentions which was wrong. But he had a point. You’ve been observing me from the shadows. What exactly is your purpose?”
“Well…”
Lu Xin weighed the situation and decided to keep Old Zhou and Little Zhou’s secret.
Old Zhou and Little Zhou had asked him not to reveal the real reason they brought him along until the Boss was cured.
That was basically a confidentiality agreement and he should try his best to uphold it.
“Hmph forget it if you won’t say. I’ll just assume you’ve been after my body all along…”
The Boss sneered again but didn’t press further. Taking a deep breath she suddenly flipped the switch on her motorcycle’s alarm device.
A piercing alarm blared through the empty street. The madmen who had gathered inside the supermarket like ghosts staring with eerie smiles were instantly agitated by the harsh sound.
However it seemed the power influencing them was also intensifying. They were in chaos but hadn’t completely lost control yet.
“This volume still isn’t quite enough…”
Lu Xin drove his bike *dududu* alongside Boss Gao Ting and remarked curiously.
“Don’t worry I came prepared…”
The Boss glanced back at Lu Xin a faint smile on her face.
Then she mounted a blue and white speaker onto the front of her bike cranked the volume to maximum and flipped the switch.
“Love even if it kills me…”
“If it’s not unrestrained it’s not satisfying…”
…
Instantly a high-pitched heart-wrenching melody tore through the air aggressively stimulating the abandoned small town.
If all these madmen were currently under the control of that faint violin sound forcibly suppressing their urge to pounce waiting for their numbers to gather to wipe out everyone in the convoy then this arrogant music was an intense stimulus. They could no longer hold back and swarmed towards the motorcycles.
Like a bursting dam one group of madmen triggered the frenzy of more madmen rushing forward batch after batch.
Behind Lu Xin and Boss Gao’s motorcycles it was suddenly like a human tide following them. Ahead of them on the building faces and behind empty windows madmen periodically appeared baring teeth and claws lunging down at the two riders.
But neither of their expressions changed; they just twisted the throttles.
Lu Xin understood this was the Boss’s original goal.
She likely wasn’t sure if what he said was true or maybe she simply couldn’t fully trust him yet. She just thought of something when he mentioned the violin sound and through experimentation discovered these madmen were sensitive to noise. So she immediately made her decision.
It seemed like she wanted to find the source at all costs and eliminate the person controlling the madmen.
But in reality she might have just been thinking of luring these madmen away.
“Screech…”
Facing a madman lunging from ahead she sharply turned her handlebars dodging it then raised her hand and fired several shots.
“Bang bang…”
In a corner up ahead two madmen who had just shown their heads were hit.
This woman’s marksmanship was pretty good among ordinary people.
Although she didn’t hit their heads hitting them at all while moving quickly was already impressive.
Lu Xin praised her inwardly and also twisted his throttle hard.
Although this Boss Gao’s marksmanship and riding skills were already quite good her overall skills should be top-tier among ordinary people. This proved her body coordination was fine which was worth noting in his little book…
However no matter how skilled she was still an ordinary person. Now human heads surged from both sides of the road from the alleyways from the rooftops from broken windows. Countless madmen rushed over making it look like they were raining down from the sides. Charging straight ahead like this no matter how fast she drove she couldn’t shake off all the madmen and had already faced danger several times within seconds.
If it weren’t for the thick rubber skin and tape wrapped around her arms and legs she would have been injured long ago.
“Sister didn’t you want toys that move and make sounds?”
Lu Xin gripped the handlebars lowered his head and spoke softly to his sister who was squatting on them.
Sister looked up with a somewhat confused little face, “Why are you agreeing now?”
“These are monsters after all.”
Lu Xin looked at her and said gently, “And I feel like you’re a little unhappy.”
Sister seemed stunned for a moment then her eyes gradually brightened. She suddenly jumped up and threw herself onto Lu Xin.
“Brother you’re the best…”
As her voice still echoed in his ear she suddenly leaped out.
Her little hand still rested on Lu Xin’s shoulder but her tiny body flew through the air around them. All the madmen approaching Lu Xin were touched by her little hand. Their limbs immediately spasmed as if tripping over themselves. They crashed violently to the ground struggling fiercely but unable to get back up.
At this moment Boss Gao Ting was fully focused on driving under such dangerous conditions unable to turn her head to look at Lu Xin so she didn’t witness this scene. Lu Xin rode steadily countless madmen lunging at him but it was as if a strange energy field surrounded him. Any madman that got close inexplicably tumbled to the ground struggling and howling.
Amidst this street teeming with pale heads churning in chaos Lu Xin didn’t need to do anything.
He just kept both hands on the handlebars driving steadily *dududu*.
No matter how many madmen lunged out from the surroundings they just howled and screamed posing no threat.
It was the madmen behind them that were now a dense overwhelming tide chasing after them.
