Chapter Index

    “It does have some influence.”

Lu Xin answered softly, then looked at the brain hanging in mid-air, “What is that?”

    He was very curious now.

This monster was different from the ones he’d seen before and its ability seemed different too.

On the surface its influence on him just seemed a bit stronger than other Pollution Sources.

But thinking carefully it wasn’t that simple. When affected by it Lu Xin had to exert significant effort to resist the influence. This made it hard for him to concentrate and consequently he couldn’t ask Father for help.

He had already reached an understanding with Father. Now that he faced a problem Father was the one who could help the most.

However when his focus was compromised Lu Xin didn’t dare let Father help.

Father was different from Sister and Mom.

He had already given Sister the greatest trust so she could now act freely to a certain extent.

Mom had been free from the very beginning.

Father was different. For the sake of family unity Lu Xin had started trying to trust Father but this trust had limits. When his attention wasn’t focused he couldn’t be too careless. Excessive trust was indulgence and could easily lead to trouble.

This also made Lu Xin somewhat displeased with this monster.

It affected the unity within his family.

See if it weren’t for it the fact that he didn’t fully trust Father yet wouldn’t have been exposed…

“That’s the most disgusting thing in the world.”

Mom spoke softly her exquisitely made-up face devoid of expression, “Born from the most bottomless experiments.”

“Brother I hate it. I want to tear it apart…”

Sister gritted her teeth beside him.

It was the first time she hadn’t expressed the desire to turn something into a toy but directly wanted to tear it apart.

    “So this thing was man-made?”

Lu Xin’s face gradually lost its expression as he asked softly.

Mom suddenly smiled but unlike her usual warm understanding smile this time it was a sneer:

“Of course it’s man-made otherwise how could such a disgusting thing appear in this world?”

Lu Xin nodded gently his eyes slowly narrowing, “Then let’s destroy it?”

Mom nodded and said softly, “But we can’t just destroy it. It seems there are others watching all this here…”

Lu Xin remained expressionless and nodded lightly, “It doesn’t matter. Just destroy them all.”

Mom turned to look at Lu Xin a satisfied expression appearing on her face. She nodded gently, “Okay.”

    “Zzzzz…”

As the shadow beneath Lu Xin’s feet flickered the brain-like monster seemed to sense the danger and grow alert.

The impact of the two bombs earlier made it feel threatened. Faint electrical currents flashed within the blood-red crevices on its surface. This current suddenly amplified its violin sound driving the surrounding madmen into a frenzy. They charged recklessly towards Lu Xin and Boss Gao who were not far in front of it. Simultaneously heavy footsteps echoed from behind it.

It was the sound of a large machine heavily impacting the ground.

Accompanying this sound a thick smell of blood faintly drifted from the mist-shrouded small town behind the brain.

Two monsters appeared before the brain-like creature. One resembled a centipede covered in blood. A closer look revealed it was actually a grotesque fusion of seven or eight madmen. Its numerous claws were thick blackened arms propping it up off the ground. Its body was covered in pale eerie faces displaying sinister smiles.

The other was a towering giant nearly three meters tall. Its leg muscles bulged like they contained unimaginable explosive power. It too was formed from fused madmen and rolling eyes could be seen all over its crimson body.

These two monsters resembling madmen yet distinct seemed fundamentally the same as the brain monster.

Except they were clearly much better suited for combat.

    “Zzz…”

The electrical currents on the brain monster flickered more intensely. The two giant monsters suddenly strode forward charging.

Simultaneously the countless madmen around them surged towards Lu Xin like a tide.

It seems this brain felt threatened so it summoned madmen and other monsters to protect it?

Lu Xin watched the two monsters and the surging madmen around him thinking inwardly, “They look terrifying…”

At the same time the shadow beneath his feet began to change.

In this mist-covered abandoned city shadows were originally faint almost invisible.

But now it suddenly became dark and distinct as if illuminated by countless intense scattered light sources. The shadow writhed and spread like a black tide expanding outward relentlessly with Lu Xin’s feet at the center.

Within this black shadow a pair of blood-red eyes opened seeming to look at Lu Xin with some dissatisfaction.

Lu Xin pretended not to see.

Father was clearly a bit angry having noticed the restrictions Lu Xin placed on him.

    But could he blame him?

Clearly this monster was to blame…

“Don’t be angry with me. When we get to Central City I’ll treat you to a good drink okay…”

Lu Xin murmured softly slowly extending his hand to the side.

Sister obediently placed her small hand in his. A strange warped sensation immediately manifested in Lu Xin’s body.

    Simultaneously his shadow expanded drastically.

    “That’s…”

Boss Gao who had been forcibly knocked out of the sky by Lu Xin and crashed so hard she felt like every bone was broken had just regained consciousness.

The sound of the violin had vanished during the bomb blasts no longer keeping her in a state of chaos.

However the pain from the fall surged into her mind simultaneously.

Especially her fingers all ten were twisted sending piercing agony through her.

But she didn’t even have time to register the various pains wracking her body or perhaps she was already becoming accustomed to such pain her resistance far stronger than others. So her immediate attention was drawn to the changes in Lu Xin nearby.

When her consciousness returned she heard Lu Xin muttering to himself.

Since Lu Xin had his back to her she couldn’t see his expression.

But she could hear his voice shifting—one moment bewildered and full of confusion the next seemingly extremely cold and hateful.

He seemed to be discussing something with himself or perhaps answering his own questions.

The feeling was strangely eerie and gloomy even more oppressive than the brain-like monster.

Then before she could ask anything she saw the two massive monsters charging towards Lu Xin. At the same time the almost innumerable madmen swarmed forward densely ignoring her and rushing straight for Lu Xin.

    “Little…”

Feeling the indescribable pressure she almost fainted. She subconsciously cried out only to find her voice hoarse.

The sheer number of black heads belonging to the surrounding madmen was enough to drive one insane. And those two monsters which looked like combinations of countless madmen were figures straight out of nightmares. Their mere existence exuded a pressure and fear difficult to accurately describe in words. As they charged forward they instilled a desire to simply give up all resistance.

How could a human possibly fight such monsters…

    “Hehe…”

But just as Boss Gao Ting felt her mind about to break she heard Lu Xin laugh.

Then she saw facing the horde of madmen rushing towards him Lu Xin suddenly lowered his head his body twisting bizarrely. So many madmen charged at him; even ignoring their thick sharp deformed claws and mouths filled with disgusting mucus and sharp teeth their beast-like strong bodies would have overwhelmed him piling on top until he couldn’t move.

But surrounded by so many madmen Lu Xin’s body twisted in an utterly illogical way somehow dodging out from impossible angles within the pack. Simultaneously his hands quickly swept across the madmen’s bodies like a caress.

    “Kaka…”

The madmen he touched instantly became strangely contorted resembling a cluster of intense post-modern sculptures.

    “Tap tap tap…”

    “Boom boom boom…”

The two large monsters also charged over. One set its claws on the ground producing a series of crisp clicking sounds.

Every face on its body showed a crazed excited expression.

The other’s heavy footsteps cracked the ground creating spiderweb-like pits.

A massive fist swung out and the force of the wind could be felt scraping against one’s face even from over ten meters away.

    Bizarre and violent.

Facing them anyone would feel an indescribable sense of oppression.

    “Hehe…”

But facing those two monsters Lu Xin charged straight at them.

He lifted his fingers adjusting his glasses frame. On the left lens a red box quickly appeared locking onto the monster on the right which was clearly powerful and exuded a sense of pressure even to him. Then Lu Xin shouted, “…Lock.”

    “Robotic dog…”

    “Beep beep beep beep—”

A sound immediately erupted originating from the second floor where his motorcycle had crashed. Following that the lid of a case on the side of the fallen motorcycle suddenly burst open. Then a strange silver machine covered in various parts and wires crawled out. Its body was squarish with no head only four flexible thin metal legs.

After emerging from the case it scurried tap-tap-tap to the second-floor window. A red dot shot out a scanning beam from the center of its body.

Then a multi-barrel rotary gun ejected from its body clicking into place on its ‘head’.

The barrels began to spin and then a frantic hail of bullets roared out.

    “Papapa…”

Flesh and blood instantly splattered from the back of the towering monster creating bursts of gore. It struggled to turn around but the bullets poured onto its body relentlessly tearing it apart piece by piece until half its body was obliterated.

Its flesh and blood were attempting to coalesce seemingly possessing a recovery ability.

But its body was too severely damaged. Only its two legs and waist remained crouched on the ground making recovery impossible.

Yet the robotic dog kept firing its bullets pouring out nonstop.

Only after firing three hundred rounds did the now-reddened multi-barrel rotary gun retract with a click.

Then the robotic dog scurried tap-tap-tap back and climbed into its case.

    Job done clocking out!

Simultaneously Lu Xin dashed forward over ten meters with ghost-like speed. Leaping two or three meters off the ground his agile body now resembled a wild beast as he pounced directly towards the brain suspended in the middle of the street.

He ignored the multi-limbed centipede-like monster; his shadow simply enveloped it.

    “Chiiilaalaa…”

Under the chaotic enveloping shadow the multi-limbed monster showed obvious signs of panic.

Strange squeaking sounds emitted from its various mouths. Then its thick twisted limbs suddenly snapped inch by inch and it collapsed directly onto the ground. And that wasn’t all its disgusting body was also disintegrating bit by bit.

It was like shattering a fragile object into pieces then grinding each piece meticulously into powder.

During this process Lu Xin had already reached the brain-like monster. While still in mid-air he drew his gun and fired.

“What kind of monster is that?”

Boss Gao Ting whispered her eyes filled with terror.

She wasn’t looking at the brain-like monster but at Lu Xin.
